Your hair is so thick, pretty & healthy looking!! I use this product (thanks to YT) not for styling/definition but for the moisture retention. I'm guessing it's the glycerin in this stuff that keeps my hair from drying out, which means I don't have to worry about moisturizing my type 4 hair, every other day.

Curl activator is for Jheri curls which is a type of perm. My dad wore a jheri curl when I was a little girl and it was greasy AF. He always had a clear shower cap on his head lol

You have to apply the curl activator on your hair more than one time for several days. You actually purchase a curl activator gel. They have different curl activators that are like locations. I had a curl back in the day.😁

I haven't commented in a long time. Hiiii Caramel Coils!!! Could you do a "DIY" video. For example, using Aloe vera + Water as Leave in, DIY deep conditioning and Bentonite Clay and tell us the results. I would LOVE to see that. Another vid idea is to show us how to achieve maximum hydration. I've been natural my whole life, but haven't really given much thought to the moisture of my hair.

That's true about what she said...The hair growth was wild; but tons of people walking around with plastic caps on their heads all day outside and sleeping in them overnight for hours and not washing their hair often so that was not healthy. That era was crazy but the hair was soft didn't tangle so I guess that's what made it grow but it wasn't clean. Think of that scene and coming to America when those jheri curl people were sitting on that couch and left grease spots on the wall dripping. Lol!

All that is true concerning jheri curls and activator back in the 80's. The greasy couches, clothes and plastic caps all of it. Wasn't a movie for me though, I wore a curl. Haha and the non tangling and softness was not only because of the curl activator aka jheri curl juice, a jheri curl was a perm. The same chemicals for a relaxer was used, lye; except that the hair was rolled while the lye was on. The curl activator was required because if the hair was not in a constant state of of being moisturized, it would get extremely dry and break off, I mean severe damage with the quickness. Many people who wore curls, when they would grow tired of it would start wearing a press n curls and it would look so good at first but then eventually would break off if you didn't keep up the press n curl or apply the activator. Just like with any relaxer where one can't go too long without getting a touch up or press n curl, the new growth fights the permed hair and there is breakage. The perm had to grow out for the hair to recover or you had to go back to that greasy curl activator. I tried this curl activator on my natural hair yesterday and I was back in the 80's all over again. All that sticky glycerin it's not for me.

Back in the 80’s and early 90’s The Jheri curl juice was used with a process to loosen the natural curl in our hair. This process, including putting the hair on perm rods, took anywhere from 2-3 hours to completion. It was not used on natural hair. If you search TH-cam for Jheri curls, I’m sure you will find someone getting a Jheri curl and you will understand the process. The Jheri curl juice is not going to harm natural hair but it wasn’t made for it. 😊

Do you live in a dry climate? I heard that glycerin-based products actually draw moisture, or lack thereof, from the environment into the hair. So if you live in a dry climate, it literally is just drawing the dryness into the hair. Maybe that’s why it frizzed up so quickly.

  • @brittanyhill9106

I dunno...I think you may have used too much of the Luster's because it is NOT for styling at all in this case, just for moisture so you'd just use enough for moisturizing and then use the gel as usual. I think if you did that (without using a leave in) it would get rid of the stickiness feeling and give a better hold. I have used these crazy wet products back in the day (including that Care Free curl stuff) on processed hair Annnd yeah moisture on 100! LOL

But anyways the reason why I wanted to texturise is not because of my hair like I Love my afro hair and stuff like that I’m in LOVEE with afro hair is just because when I tell you when is like a “my hair issue” is not even afro is just dead ass cemented shit, i’m telling you. that’s why i’m planning on texturising because gurl! 😂 i’m telling you.. it’s that bad

@@samarahbermudez536 Curl activators are just moisturizers and you just wash them out like any hair product. However, they were made to style and care for a curly perm or often referred to as a "Jheri Curl". If you get an actual "curl, curly perm, Jheri Curl", then that is a permanent chemical process.

Maybe she needed to use a little more gel & then break the gel cast the next day? I have used Luster's S-curl No Drip curl activator spray and mixed it with gel in my hand so that it has a creamy consistency before applying it to my hair & gotten decent results. To get rid of the stickiness on the back of the neck, I just wash my neck with a damp wash cloth.
