I just went to a Bret Michael concert in October. At the end of the concert while he was sitting on the stage signing autographs, his band members were auctioning off his hat, bandanas and t-shirts he wore during the concert and they donated the money to a local homeless shelter.

The lyric is "The lawyers took his wife and kids with no regrets." It wasn't referring to the veteran. The first verse is about Jim Baker and other TV evangelists who were convicted of using the donation monies for their own gain. The second is about Brett Michael's cousin who came back from Vietnam with severe PTSD. The third is about his best friend and security guard who died on alone in a hotel room.
Poison was a cool 80s Hard Rock band with recognizable hits but what made the band great was C.C. Deville on lead guitar. There are many more Poison songs for you to discover but please at least check out their song Life Goes On if not just for the killer guitar showing C.C. at his best! I saw them in concert when I was 18 and again in 2019 when I was 46 and they rocked both times!
OMG.. just heard you sigh... it's the same sigh in the song. no joke. Wow.. I'm worried you're not getting the message of this song.. Vietnam Vets.. were not respected when they came home.. many committed suicide.. my brother-in-law, my bf's Father... 25 yrs later.. still hadn't gotten over Nam. this song came out 25/30 yrs ago.. This song was and still is very amazing..
I don't think this song got the credit it should have. It's one of the most powerful song's written. If I remember correctly, the verse about his friend dying from suicide was true. Thanks for the reaction Jimmy

My fave band ever. I was blessed to be front and center to watch this live on 9/30/90 in Wichita KS. And now I have seen them 25 times live

Poison actually has a deep catalogue. For great underrated 80s bands, I'd recommend to dive into Warrant's songs.
