Mike Reno never got his due for how good of a singer he is. Shamefully underrated! Check him out with Ann Wilson on Almost Paradise. That was done in 1 take, and it's magic!
❤Mike Reno, the lead singer, has an Amazing voice! They all Rock!! They have many songs like "WHEN IT'S OVER", "THIS COULD BE THE NIGHT", "THE KID IS HOT TONITE", "WORKING FOR THE WEEKEND", "LUCKY ONES", "QUEEN OF THE BROKEN HEARTS", "LOVIN' EVERY MINUTE OF IT", "HOT GIRLS IN LOVE", "TAKE ME TO THE TOP". I Love these guys!! 🥰
Growing up in Canada in the 80's - I just love it when others discover the songs and moments that made up my youth. I always considered bands like Triumph, Loverboy, Rush, Kim Mitchel / Max Webster, BTO , The Tragically Hip etc. as our local secrets - you keep finding this Canadian gold dude - enjoy our music!
Anybody who says music in the 80's wasn't that good obviously didn't live through it. It was such a fun decade! (Yes, the 70's was better musically but also probably the greatest decade of music in human history).
Loverboy & April Wine were house party staples growing up - almost over played at times because everyone loved 'm . I find the term "underrated" is used too often but Mike Reno's vocals kinda were ,especially on some songs that didn't get as much radio play - he has crazy range
And Canada strikes again! 🇨🇦 Loverboy are definitely one of the best bands we’ve produced! Turn Me Loose was one of their biggest hits….and, yeah, I bought their albums back in the day…still have them!
😮 Loverboy is a rabbit hole you should fall head first into😂! Loads of bangers! One of the best rock groups of the 80's! The Kid is Hot tonight, Working for the Weekend, Lovin' Every Minute of It, When It's Over, Lucky Ones....🤯 So many!😊❤
Let's Gooooo! This was the first act I ever saw live. I was 10 They opened up for Bob Seger and I got the VIP treatment with front row center floors because my dad was friends with security. I had a smile for weeks 😂 please check out April Wine...Roller it's a certified banger as you refer to some songs 😂 Great reaction and Peace out ✌️ ☮️ 🙏
I absolutely love LOVERBOY!! I'm an old Ozzy, Metallica, Led Zep fan but I loved so much of the music that came out in the 80's. I saw Loverboy live in 1986 and they ROCKED!!
Hey. Just checking out your reaction to Triumph. As a Canadian I’ve always been proud of our 3 piece bands like Rush. I think you would be blown away by Rock and Roll Machine by Triumph. Keep up the great reactions! Dan
Hello Darlin' is a must. As is Goodbye Time. He was also Loretta Lynn's duet partner and very close friend. They have a song called You're the reason our kids are ugly. And they did a song called Hang up the phone. They way they did it was genius.
Working for the weekend, turn me loose, the kid is hot tonight Mike Reno singer, Paul Dean guitar, Matt Frenette drums Doug Johnson keyboards Donald Scott bass
If you want to check out more from Loverboy, I suggest the song, Take Me To The Top. It's such a cool song. The guitar and the bass line along with the synth bass line make it such a memorable song. Easily my favorite from them.
The bassist fell off of his boat years ago and was never found. The guitarist and drummer were in a band called Streetheart you really should visit, the bassist from that band is with them since the boating accident. The live video for Streethearts' cover of the Rolling Stones' Under my Thumb is awesome.
🇬🇧 Im 60 years old, and i have never heard of either band nor song! Its crazy how some really great songs never make it to other countries! This is a great tune, and his voice is fabulous. 🎼
lead singer Mike Reno is from my hometown of Penticton British Columbia Canada. When I went to Pen Hi, I walked by his graduation picture every day. Later on, I got to play poker with him at a bar I worked at on Apex Alpine, the local ski hill.
The retro-actively applied "genre" term for this style is "Camaro rock." A chunk of great music in this vein. I certainly enjoyed cruising around with my older brother in his '83 Camaro, blasting cassettes like Loverboy, Billy Squier, Night Ranger.
I saw them on this tour. Strangely enough, warming for ZZ Top, Loverboy killed it as usual. This was their #1 tune. But as others have said, also check out: Working for the Weekend and Living Every Minute of it. They were all over the radio in the early/mid 80's
More Canadians to consider checking out: Gino Vanelli Burton Cummings Bruce Cockburn Tom Cochrane Lighthouse Guess Who Jann Arden Ann Murray Or you could check out a lot of great artists at once with Tears Are Not Enough by the Northern Lights, Canada's contribution to famine relief in the 1980s.
It's funny, being a Canadian in his fifties, I have heard this song a thousand times. Great tune. It's a running joke at work that everytime it comes on, I over exaggerate the opening guitar riff. Love me some loverboy!
One of their most popular songs is Workin' For The Weekend. A couple of other songs I think you might like are Hot Girls In Love and Lovin' Every Minute Of It. Mike Reno, the lead singer, also did a duet with Ann Wilson from Heart that's called Almost Paradise.
I seen them in 1982 at a show at Folsom Field in Boulder Colorado they opened for George Therogood Heart and the Rolling Stone awesome day and night of music we used to have a couple of those shows a summer back in the 80’s and 90’s
This was out in 1980 but figure it was written in the seventies and more of a seventies song than an eighties song. The seventies was my late teens and twenties. I was on top of the music, as most young people are.
Came back from a little fishing to find more Canadian content on your channel. Mike Reno is singing. A lot of times you find a video that says live but it has the studio version dubbed over it, this is definitely not the studio version. In almost all cases I prefer a live performance, this is a good example why. Loverboy was pretty big here in Canada and had a lot of hits. Mike Reno even teamed up with Ann Wilson for a song called Almost Paradise. Keep uncovering our Canadian talent and give them the exposure they deserve.
Also want to say I really enjoyed your reaction to rhem. Rthese guys along with Def LeopardDuran Duran& some orhers saved MTV from getting canceled!! See back then people could call in requests like radio. More calls = heavy airplay
Their self titled first album of 1980 has so many great tracks! Had Loverboy, Blondie Parallel Lines, Cheap Trick at Budokan, and Pat Benatar In the Heat of the Night amongst others, in cassette tape form. With speakers wired into my motorcycle helmet, I rode around endlessly after school listening to them on a Sony Walkman, absolutely enjoying life at 17.
that bassline- wow!, remebr vis well i was in hs, stil sounds great!, n his vocals!. hre au grl group covered vis cple yrs ago n it was a hit again in au, young divas!
Loverboy!!! Mike Reno lead singer, famous for his Red Leather Pants (lol), and yes he can hit those notes!! The Band started here in Calgary, AB Canada in the 80's, still touring today. "Working for the Weekend" is probably their biggest hit!!
I saw these guys 3x in the span of 4.5 years 81-86. The first time I saw them in 81, they opened for ZZ Top...in Texas...a tough order for anyone. They had their first hit...this one...and nothing else. The crowd was there for the Top and these guys heard that. My hometown was brutal to openers. Next time I saw them (summer of 82) they were the 4th band in a five band show in the Kingdome in Seattle. Opener was Bryan Adams (a last-minute addition...a newcomer at the time), Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Blue Öyster Cult, Loverboy, and headlining was Foreigner. They rocked the freakin' house that day. Guitarist wailed. Third time in January 86 was a lark. My buddy & I had just completed almost 2 years of training in the Navy and were on a month-long leave. We had driven all night from our duty station in Idaho and rolled into my hometown about noon. On the way in, we heard on the radio they were playing that night, so we went. They were the headliner that time, but I gotta tell ya, I don't really remember too much about that show...my buddy & I were turning it loose after almost 2 years! 😂😂😂
@@jessejamessimons483 Oh wow!! That’s awesome! When you show up to a concert and the band throws down and exceeds expectations, that’s always a treat!! 🔥
Mike Reno was a guest DJ on a Sirius XM channel (i happened to be driving through Reno, NV at the time). He said one of his regrets in his career was the scream on this song. He was showing off his range, and had no idea he wouldn't be able to do it later on in life. LOL. It was great.
Check out “The Kid Is Hot Tonite”, “Notorious”, "Hot Girls In Love", Mike Reno's duet with Ann Wilson of Heart “Almost Paradise”, and their biggest hit “Working For The Weekend”.
Loverboy didn't last long but while they did, they burned hot! Hit after hit in the first half of the 80s. "Working for the Weekend", "Lucky Ones", "When It's Over", "Lovin' Every Minute Of It" are some good ones to check out. The "Get Lucky" album cover is an iconic one of the 80s, frankly so is the first album cover for "Loverboy".
This makes me wanna dig up my photos from seeing them in the early 2000's. State fair, close to the stage, hit after hit! I had someone use my camera to take a picture of me with the lead singer. 😂❤ I still have their Get Lucky 🤞album on vinyl, cellophane wrapping still on. 😊 Keep listening to them! Pure 80's rock, so many bangers!
When it’s over is definitely Mike Reno’s best vocal performance. This is another song that is great. Really good band that is underrated due to the Mike Reno show. It’s hard to be in a band with a really great lead singer who gets all the attention. Don’t crucify me. This is just my opinion loving every minute of it is matter of taste. I just don’t care for it which is sad because I really love this band , thanks for showing the boys some love

Paul Dean built his guitar in high school shop class. The teacher told him "If it works, you get an A". He got an A.

In America too. We loved Loverboy.
Loverboys best song!!!!!👍🏻
Mike Reno has an amazing set of pipes! Another great Canadian band 🇨🇦
In the 80's they were on top of the music world!!!
Early 80’s was awesome man. Still had a big taste of the 70’s with high energy music. It was the sign of the times. Great time to be a teenager!!
Another great Canadian group.
Anybody who says music in the 80's wasn't that good obviously didn't live through it. It was such a fun decade! (Yes, the 70's was better musically but also probably the greatest decade of music in human history).
Each time I hear this song I feel the need to go listen to "On The Loose" from Saga. 🎹
Check out Mike Reno (Loverboy) and Anne Wilson (Heart) ballad "Almost Paradise".

"When it's Over"
TAKE ME TO THE TOP By Lover Boy
I saw them in 82, they were a warm up for Journey. In Dallas Tx.

One of Canada best rock bands of the 80's. Helix was another great Canadian band from this area.

Canada had a number of great 80’s bands
Singer Mike Reno did a hit duet with Ann Wilson of Heart called “Almost Paradise” that you have probably heard before. Their voices were,a good match.
Mike had quite the voice. Back in the day it was supposed to be embarrassing to admit that rock fans liked Loverboy but I'm no longer young and dumb.
Along with Working for the Weekend, check out It's Your Life.
Lovin' Every Minute of It, Working for the Weekend, When It's Over, are a few their other great songs!
