the part about his friend dying is true and the inspiration behind this song. When they shot the video, they did not show that part to Bret before shooting this video because they wanted a real reaction, and you can see the look on his face, it really hit him hard and if you notice, he even stops singing some

I was a teen at the end of Vietnam and it was shameful that all those kids that made it back were treated so poorly. Later was able to work with many and what little they did share it was a nightmare.

PS) during the 80s a couple HUGE televangelists fell. Cinderella Shelter Me touches on Jimmy Swaggarts & has a Rick legend plus few "cameos" you might recognize 😊) IDK if it's the same feel, but, The Rolling Stones - Saint of Me - lots of biblical references. The Birds Turn Turn Turn (Ecclesiastes 3) Spirit in the Sky (forgot the band) There's tons of rock with Bible references.

(Just for more suggestions) Ozzy's song "Miracle Man" on his 1998 album "No Rest For The Wicked" was about Jimmy Swaggart too. And "Creeping Death" by Metallica is a Bible story about Moses and the plagues of Egypt.

Jim Baker - wife was Tammy Faye & they started PTL back in the 80s. They started out righteous with great intentions & well .....

I just read about that, and I can't say it's surprising in my eyes because it's honestly not anything new or different. We've seen it with priests, pastors, rabbis, etc. Televised religious businesses (also many churches as well) quite honestly in my opinion is arguably the biggest scam (along with drugs, and sex) because it brainwashes people into thinking that the Owners/CEO's of these brands are pure, holier than thou, mistake free, when many of these people live a double life and are different people behind closed doors. Don't get me wrong, there are maybe a few genuine people out there that truly believes in doing God's work but for the most part people get caught up and it's always the wife finding out the truth last and not knowing what was going on.

Listen to Poison's "Stand" for another song that has strong gospel roots.
Most good rock bands do a stripped down song or album at some point. When they do, their real talents as musicians come out front and center. No sound production or engineering to hide behind.

    • @kravethedream

Great point made, I also think acapellas can display pure talent as well. I will listen to Stand by Poison and more Poison tracks on the channel soon. Thank you for watching, I appreciate it!

Poison was a cool 80s Hard Rock band with recognizable hits but what made the band great was C.C. Deville on lead guitar. There are many more Poison songs for you to discover but please at least check out their song Life Goes On if not just for the killer guitar showing C.C. at his best! I saw them in concert when I was 18 and again in 2019 when I was 46 and they rocked both times!
My favorite Poison songs are Life Goes On, Fallen Angel, Something to Believe In, Cry Tough, I Won’t Forget You, Talk Dirty to Me, Nothin’ But a Good Time, and of course Every Rose Has its Thorn.

Wow...that's amazing! That really is! I wish I could've came up in the 1980's. I think the 1960's-1990's had the best music and best entertainment. I could be wrong but when I was coming up, all of the greats were basically retired or passed on, it also seemed like everything got watered down. I'm going to check out Life Goes On soon, and your other favorite tracks from Poison. Thank you for sharing!

My Bf's Daddy hung himself in the family basement.. 35 yrs after Nam.. he never got over it.. my Brother-in-law.. shot himself in the chest in his son's front yard ,,again 35 yrs after serving in Nam... it was a truly sad era of our history... and we will never know what happened.. because the ones that went to Nam won't talk about it.. and they came home to hate.. just sad.. I don't remember it .. generation b4 me. but my parents lived it.

I met Bret several years ago. He has this song title tattooed on his arm. He told the tattoo horror story to me that when he saw the finished product, the tat artist misspelled Believe. It has since been fixed... :)

That's sad but the more sadder part is that over 60-75 years since those wars, there are veterans still disrespected by people in general, meaning their spouses, citizens of America, and citizens of other countries that they put their life on the line to protect.

  • @john_thorpe

The lyric "And it makes me wonder why so many lose and so few win" is referring to the losing part is the poor people who are kept poor due to low wages, rising costs, taxes, etc. no matter how hard they struggle, while the few who win are those who get tax cuts, large multi figure income, etc. Basically it's a dig at how the rich people does nothing to help out those who are struggling ... some even try to make it more difficult by trying to strip away any help the poor get ... i.e.: medicare, medicaid, food assistance, rent assistance, social security, etc.
