  • Here is an easy and quick tutorial for Nintendo Switch Lite joystick replacement. Tip 1: Be very careful when disconnecting and reconnecting cables, connectors can be damaged easily.
    Tip 2: Be very careful while unscrewing and screwing the screws, board or LCD can be bent and damage easily.
    Tip 3: always disconnect the battery first, you may short something if not done so.
    It may be looking very easy but not that easy as it looks, so be very careful if you decide to repair yourself.

      I replaced them for the second time recently with some new hall sensing control sticks.
      Apparently, they're made with magnets so that there's no contact between parts, meaning less wear and tear.
      So far, I've not had any issues.

    This was a very helpful tutorial. Thank you!! Taking everything apart and removing the damaged controller was a breeze, thanks to the clear instructions of the commenter. However, I did have a couple challenges putting everything back, after swapping out the damaged controller: 1. The commenter recommends making sure that the joystick moves freely before reconnecting everything. However, when I turned the device over to do that, the 4 rubber buttons on the adjacent pad fell out. I recommend holding them down with your thumb before turning the Switch over to test the joystick. 2. The larger (touch digitizer flex) ribbon was very hard to get back in. I kept trying to lock it in, but it kept popping out. (I must have replayed this step 15 times). The trick is that you have get it in really low (close to the board) and slide it underneath the connector, and it will then lock in appropriately. 3. When reconnecting the battery, make sure the connector wire is secured tightly. When I first reconnected the wire, I though it was secured, but it wasn't all the way in and the Switch would not turn on. Listen for the snap.

      I'm having a true nightmare of a time with it. Is it possible that the door is just incapable of holding it down? I've been messing with it for an hour...

    • @HaniJIsmail
      @HaniJIsmail 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      lmao the same thing happened to me.
      1. the rubber pad fell out almost without me noticing it, i figured it out but
      2. the touch screen digitizer ribbon was hard I agree. the locking tab is so tiny and feels so flimsy when its unlocked. make sure its pointing up. this one gave me some trouble. I had to take a break because my eyes hurt. What helped me get it is once i felt it was partially in, I pushed the flex cable with the tip of my fingernail lol. my tweezers kept slipping.
      I usually suck at this kind of stuff but with many pauses and replays I finally got it!

    Great video, was able to get everything done no problem! The only suggestion I would make is to note that you put the game cartidge module back in before putting the heatsink down as I didnt realize it was back in and had to fanagle the cartridge ribbon cable under the heatsink since I installed the heatsink first. Thanks for pointing out the screws with the colors too!

    • @adamcolbertmusic
      @adamcolbertmusic 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It shows up visually but he did not verbally mention it. At 4:40 the game cartridge module isn't there, also notice the old thermal paste is. Then suddenly it appears in, and the heat sink "foundation" (?) is clean of any thermal paste. Then at 5:06 the game cartridge module isn't there, and he cleans the old thermal paste off. Then at 5:20 without any mention, the game cartridge module is back. The way it's edited is a bit anachronistic in those parts, is what happened.

    Great step by step, just want to point out a few things.
    1. One screw is longer on the shield
    2. You're missing a screw on the right speaker.
    3. You didn't show placing back in the card reader/headphone jack
    4. You Forgot to put the ribbon cable under the Ribbon Cable (small one next to headphone jack).
    5. You lost a screw next to the ribbon cable of the card reader.
    6. Your banners are covering up the connections on the right.
    To everyone else:
    - Make sure the ribbon cable locks are lifted before pulling.
    - Close cable locks after that reconnecting the ribbon cables.

      This is vitally important information, so as nice as this video looks it's a horrible tutorial. Those key points missed will make amateurs (and some experts) break their Switches badly.

    • @ReekRendTest1
      @ReekRendTest1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SchizOnWheels
      You may or may not damage the ribbon cables by pulling while locked in, or even the circuit, but you definitely wouldn't be able to get them back in without unlocking anyway, and if you try either break something or else the cable would not make contacts and yes black screens.
      If the Switch turns on and makes sound with a black screen, I would (after disconnect battery) carefully remove and reinsert the video ribbon cable(s) (or just all ribbon cables, for me it was just the 1).

    • @ReekRendTest1
      @ReekRendTest1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SchizOnWheels
      It shouldn't short circuit if it's wrong, it just won't work. I recommend watching a few other videos that show the same procedure with the ribbon cables more clearly.

  • @juanchavez3732
    @juanchavez3732 3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

    I think it would help if you would mention when you are flipping up the safety locks on the cables. On the first cable disconnect I didnt notice and was having trouble figuring out how you took it off with relative ease.

      This is a vitally important observation. This video would be excellent EXCEPT that mistake will lead to a lot of amateurs breaking their hardware. Clearly this guy had the switch already taken apart before he made the video, and the cables weren't locked in.
      I had a lot of laptop repair experience and I knew something was wrong when I had to pull really hard to get the 1 cable out even though I was copying him, so I looked at a different video and they showed how to flip the locks up on all the ribbons.

    • @ReekRendTest1

      @@SoftSolutionsRepairsUK Sorry man, you put a decent effort into this video but you should either upload a new version or delete it. Without showing people to unlock the ribbon cables, you are causing them to damage their hardware.

Two, one of the screws on the board ended up being stripped(No I did not do it it was already smooth upon inspection and before I touched it) and three, my heat sync wouldn't come off. So, here my question, what screw head do you recommend for me to be able to take off this screw that refused to come out of the board? Or is there a toolkit you can recommend I buy with all possible sizes I may need to repair this?

    I used this tutorial in conjunction with the one for the left Joystick, as well as one for replacement of the battery. I also used thermal grease after cleaning the old grease away. It was overall a satisfying job, and presents a huge improvement. I am grateful for these easy to follow instructions.

    • @Chris-re3lv
      @Chris-re3lv ปีที่แล้ว

      @SchizOnWheels Nope. The biggest problem I had was getting the battery out. It fought me every step of the way, even when using something to try to heat up the glue that houses the battery. I was able to get it out, but the old battery was bent in the process. No matter, because I put the new battery in with better adhesive that would be easier to remove later on. Honestly, the rest of the project was way easier compared to the battery. Also, I did the same kind of job for a PSVita, and the PSVita was a far easier job, owing due to it not having a glued down battery.

    • @Chris-re3lv
      @Chris-re3lv ปีที่แล้ว

      @SchizOnWheels No, I am just good at following what I see, and a really quick learner. So videos here are enough for me to understand what I need to do. I finished my Switch Lite 3 weeks ago based off looking at this video and several others, and my Switch Lite has been working perfectly since then.

    • @Chris-re3lv
      @Chris-re3lv ปีที่แล้ว

      @SchizOnWheels I can only tell you what I did, carefully, and maybe you can glean a little from that. I bought an I Fixit tool kit to have everything I might need to do my projects. It had all the little screw tooltips needed for various sized screws, including the proprietary ones on the Switch Lite. It had a couple of pliers, including angled pliers (which I used to carefully remove various ribbons during the project). It also had thin blade like tools that I was able to use to carefully lift the battery terminal off the socket it was in, and eventually remove the battery itself. If you are only doing the joysticks, you will still need the correct size and shape screwdrivers, pliers for removing and later replacing the ribbons, and a couple of containers to separate and hold your screws so you don't lose any in the process. I don't really have any extra suggestions except that you watch the videos pertaining to your issue and follow them step by step.

    • @Chris-re3lv
      @Chris-re3lv ปีที่แล้ว

      @SchizOnWheels I cannot say for sure. I would go and absolutely be extra, extra sure I followed the video(s), every last step. Check, double check, triple check every last ribbon to make sure it's adequately seated. Same for the battery terminals. There are so many that it isn't that hard to overlook a connection. I was so thorough with my checks on my Switch Lite that I watched a video that did both the breakdown AND the reassembly. If you still have the screen blackout, you prolly still skipped a step by accident. You simply must make sure. If you still have the blackout EVEN then, then I cannot help, as it is outside what I know. You should prolly take the issue to Reddit Switch help, or ask an actual professional here on TH-cam. I am just a random guy who is good at following directions. The directions you can find here on TH-cam worked rather well for me.

    I believe I did everything correct. However, it won’t seem to power on. Any ideas? I did briefly get the Nintendo logo twice, and that was it. I’m trying a couple different chargers.

    my switch lite has several screws that have been stripped before I even attempted to touch them. i got most of them out except for one of the screws keeping the charging dock in place. idk how I'm getting it out. I've tried everything. I'm not using any of the old stripped screws I'm just ordering replacements for them, but I really need to remove this last one for my own sanity.

      I am afraid, you ll not be able to remove worn head screw but to damage the board without professional tools.

      What we have experienced when repair switches when you attempted repair and had no display issue.
      80% have damaged display connector or shorted pins inside the connector(connector needs to be replaced)
      20% Of them broke traces under the CPU(cold joint traces damage) by putting too much pressure on the screws while unscrewing and screwing them back on(CPU needs to be repair)

      Unlock and remove the video cable (behind the game card), then push it back and make sure it's all the way in. The side tabs of the cable don't quite go flush like some other cables but they are very close, leaving the tiniest space before you lock the flap.

    Thank you for this video! I was able to replace my broken right joystick. Like a few people I got a black screen when turned it back on. I was able to hear sound and see the backlight just no picture. I opened it up and re did the lcd flex cable. I cleaned it off before reattaching. And it worked, but now my card reader won’t work. Any idea on how to troubleshoot before ordering a new card reader?

      Try same thing you did with lcd connector u less connector is not damaged. In most cases of diy repair, we found the connector pins damaged inside. Good luck .

    Great turorial, good use of the video where you highlighted all the screws and why they are different, one comment i would have is that some of the flexible connectors are very fiddly to reseat once the joycon stick has been changed. Apart from that excellent.

    followed the guide closely. however, once i try to turn it back on, i hold the power button for about 10 second and then i hear like a "click" or a pop" and nothing happens. everything seems solid, made sure that the battery was snapped in all the way, both sides. kinda confused.

    Hi, Question... what brand of thermal paste do you recommend ?

    • @SoftSolutionsRepairsUK
      @SoftSolutionsRepairsUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are 3 types of thermal pasts
      1. Carbon Based
      2. Ceramic Based
      3. Metal Based
      Now it depends on the sugar of both side where you going to use it. I normally use carbon based and mostly ceramic based, as ceramic based stability on most surfaces is good.
      I use ARCTIC MX-4 with for bigger boards like ps, Xbox & MacBooks
      And on smaller boards like Nintendo’s etc, you can mix MX-4 with HY510 as MX-5 are expensive. And smaller boards less likely to heat up.
      Again it’s the durability, a good quality past will take longer to dry.
      Hope it helps.

      Connector on the motherboard needs replacing. Old connector will have to be desoldered and replace with new one.
