Awesome , can’t wait to hear more when you get it back. You knew they are putting Cummins and even Duramaxs in these and I’ve always wondered, why hasn’t anyone put a full 6.5 engine in these ?
I have a 1028 and a 1009 with the banks kits that only goes to about 10lbs boost and it is night and day differant from stock. I love your 1028 dually.
Great video, I’ve watched your builders video and this very truck as inspiration for mine. I’d love to see the recommended parts list and some costs if you could share.
Hi VT Prepper, I'm a transplant down to TX. Grew up a bit northerly of Rutland. I'm looking a one of these, though not dully. I'm going to give some thought to looking at KS to do the same. How long did it take you to source the parts, how many original miles did you're block have? Thank you and a beautiful minimally electronic vehicle!!!!!!
That’s a beauty! Do you know an approximate cost of the engine mods? I’m preparing to start restoring my 87 1028 and I have to do something about the power. I live at the base of the Tetons in Idaho and the hills around here are brutal on my poor CUCV.
Great question Blake. I am in the process of doing so. It gets hot. I ordered a 4 row Aluminum Radiator and a high flow water pump. I hope that does the trick. Trying to find a bigger fan that bolts on, but unable to secure one at this moment. I will be doing an update video soon. It's -20 here now so I will be doing the cooling probably Feb or March, but the parts have been ordered. Thanks for watching.
Good video!!! How much boost you are running I would try to install a water to air after cooler kit. It would help reduce intake temp and be much easier on the engine.
I'm interested in the rpm at hwy speeds w/the low gearing? I'm under the impression that those of you, including the factory, that think the 6.2/6.5 need to be at high rpm for power are robbing yourselves of the beauty of a nice driving truck. I have an '82 C20 that I tow with, I routinely pull 10k with it...its an NA 6.2 w/the J-code intake swap and factory dual exhaust. The pump is not normal...it has ridiculously high butt gears (like 3.21's) and an OD 4spd stick shift trans. It will pull 10k up a 40mph semi truck hill at 50+ in 3rd gear and I have literally gotten fatigued from driving 85+ on lonely roads for hours on end.
Just bought my daughter one to restore! Love the turbo upgrade!

I've since blown the head gasket. May put a cummins
@VermontPrepper did you contact the person that installed the turbo? It lasted less than 2 years.
@@TH-camBinging too far to bring it back
@@VermontPrepper that sucks

Actually going to pick it up tomorrow. Will do a very detailed video with a parts list. Thanks for watching
Nice job!

What's the suspension lift brand and how does it tow and pull
That's a lot of boost for that motor I'm curious to see how long it lasts
It does run hot. My next project is a better cooling system
Hey how fast is the truck on the highway with those gears and tires? I’m about to pull the trigger on a 6.2 Dually
It could hit 70
where can I get a list of parts to do this

Have you upgraded the cooling system to help with the extra heat you're making?

Sweet truck man! How’s the bed height on the 6” lift? Are you still able to pull a gooseneck?
Hi yes, I have a hitch mount that uses a drop down.
Would love to do all that to mines especially having the front wheel drive option, what is the stock tire size for the cucv?, mines 84.
I think the stock tire is a 31 inch.
Please if you could share the shopping list to turbo it correctly would greatly be appreciated i would be interested in doing this to my cucv
Yes, will be doing soon.
So what was his labor cost for this turbo upgrade?

Great idea Matt. I'll look into it. I haven't got the truck back, but I believe it maxes at 18 psi
How did you get hold of CGMR? I tried emailing and no response.
That's how I reach him. He will answer, but not.quickly.
16-20 psi dang. I've always heard that 15 psi is the safe zone.

I don't have am rpm gauge, but I run high a years having 37s and 4.88 gears
@@VermontPrepper I looked for the follow up video, is it not online yet?
I have to edit and upload it. I have a list of all parts. Will get to it soon.

Consider this a proper egging-on then. 👍
