So Killteam is now on the same tier as the 40K game, due to the popularity. So it now gets 40K pricing. It's no longer a gateway game to the 40K universe, it's a standalone product attacting and retaining consumers on its own merits, without necessarily pulling them into 40K.
Exactly this. GW found that the so-called "introductory" game was very popular in its own right and decided to aggressively monetize that popularity. They then jack up the price for the individual teams beyond all reason to make the big box look like a "deal."
Splitting the box would be easier if there was a bit of doubling up of items. Like with the Conquest 2 player starters, they properly anticipate the split and provide 2 sets of rulebooks, quick start guide, measuring tools, maps. So you can split it and both players get an army and what they need to play. Do another Conquest video please.

There's a reason why people don't like scions - it's exactly as you described it - they "look baroque" and they were never that. I think ti's popular consensus that the molefaced 'inquistorial stormtroopers' and the kasrkin were the iconic stormtroopers look. And the Elysians were the dream drop trooper look.
I'm excited for the new release. Interested in the Scions. But I can't be the only one that gets a new soft cover rule book and doesn't immediately go down to their FedEx or UPS and have them spiral bind it. I wish I could have them increase the sides of the margin so I can add notes
Yeah some of these prices are atrocious... especially the fact that they're charging that much for year 1 teams that will get the legacy treatment after this year
What do I think of GW pricing? I think my $200 m5s that has required no tinkering and runs perfect prints directly out of the box will make me more models than I will ever be able to paint in my lifetime😂
The word storm troopers probably got dropped for its historical connotation. Which ironically is also why so many sci fi writers chose the word, it inherently carried with it connotations of facism and evil empires. You see the storm troopers come out and immediately know these are the bad guys
I have some Phobos models that I will proxy as scouts, I’ll paint them in a camouflage pattern to extra distinguish them. Screw $80 or put $15 aside each paycheck and get from FLGS or online merchant and get at a slight discount. I think people that have 3d printers are the lucky ones.
Damn, you just put things in perspective saying "You know whats also 80$? Space Marine 2." I was still deciding on buying it or waiting, guess ill buy SM2 instead of a box of Yaegirs, will not pay 1 dollar per point for them (CAD)
Scouts: I'd eBay or pirate 2nd ed sergeants (bare head, sword and bolt pistol, smaller than primaris), or simply print scouts. There are only a trillion stls out there, after all.
GW prices went from 'expensive, but I like the models' to 'I like the models, but I'm not crazy'... Night Lords box price is 187pln in my local friendly game store, with a huge discount, while few years ago 175pln was the asking GW price for some of the most expensive 10 unit boxes! With same discount it would be around 130pln! You can't tell me it's not outregous to increase price by nearly 44% over around 5 years :| Time to invest in a 3d printer...
I went to a new local game store, and thought "Holy crap, they're charging over MSRP for GW kits...they're hosed.". But then I realized I had just missed the last 2-3 price hikes (I don't buy GW stuff generally).
As someone watching this a year later and just starting. Get the rules before the models. Bought a basic squad and immediately realized the won't explain all the options and what they mean. Like what's the difference between a dominion vs a battle sister squad and how do I know if I've built it correctly for that squad and not made an illegal set
I quite like killteam because you could usually buy one box maybe 2 (such as deamons) and play a decent game but nearly £50 and for US even worse i cant really justify it for only 10 models, unless a team is absolute to die for ill pass them all now
I bought the current (soon to be old) Kill Team Scouts for my 40k army for 15% off from a store in my city once I found out this garbage was happening, they quickly sold out a day later. Won't be buying Scouts ever again now I have 10 of them. Paid 68 CAD for them. The new box will allegedly be 80-90 CAD for cardboard tokens added. Absolutely ret*****
$80 for the scout kill team made me so mad. I had an order in at my Local Store, and had to cancel it because they moved it to the new price. I just ended up getting the scouts on Amazon for $55. I felt like it forced me not to buy at my local store because of GW price change. If it when to $70. Sure I don’t think I would have been upset. The $15 jump for nothing, when all rules are supposed to be digital? This feels wrong
I wonder if manufacturing capacity and shelf space play a part. If you make KT and 40K branded Scouts that is twice the work. Also, some players will cheap out and get the 40K Scouts for KT. By having just KT Scouts GW supplies a product at lowest cost for maximum profit.
Right now, the only way I'll actually get into the tabletop game is if GW releases rules for a terminator kill team. I'll buy the Saturn Heavy Squad from Tortuga Bay, paint them as Salamanders, and take them to my local game store where they don't care if my minis are official.
i can't and dont want to pay so much for single tyranid minis and now this lmao. gonna print like a mf when i have my shed to put the fume machine inside
GW knows most of the KT sales are for the main 40k game outside of a few. I think the prices for things like scouts and mandrakes who are normally 5 model units makes sense to have at $80. You usually need more than one unit for an army, so why not sell it in doubles for a discount. For 40k players these are just discount boxes for multiple units, saving money. I imgaine this wont be the last time they do practice and hopefully they release some stuff i actually want for my armies
I agree, im also quite disappointed that you cant have Inquisitorial Scions (inquisitorial stormtroopers) in Agents of the Imperium. -sure you can do it way around, but its not the same.

80 dollar squads of introductory kill team units and 60 dollar rule books are stupid expensive. They talk about good value for money in the hobby space, Mandrakes or scouts at 80 dollars, you will never get 80 dollars worth of value out of those figures.
I never buy direct nowadays EXACTLY for your reasons. Now they're coming out the prices are very screwed up although there is a standard price. But the Scouts are hiked still 😮😢
Totally agree with loving the Scions. Was disappointed to see people were so down on the jump pack versions. I think they’re awesome. Maybe I can pick up some extra cheap second hand copies when people part out their boxes.
Maybe with whatever rules they're going to go with in the new edition. Those armies with the price increase are going to do better in the addition so they're trying to raise the prices now
I like the smaller force formats GW is rolling out. I have Skaventide waiting for me at home, and I'm looking forward to assembling the Spearhead units. I have the Kreig and Ork kill team starter set, but haven't built them. Wonder if GW will redo 40k's Combat Patrol based on feadback on how well Spearhead is being received. Wonder about Warcry, these days...
"They wanna see what happens..." 3D printing gets more popular. That's what happens. By the way have you heard of a game called Stargrave? For a box of Stargrave you can get several kill teams.
Making Scouts $80 is absolutely insane considering they are both a Kill Team and a 40k unit. Thankfully I got my Scouts back around when they came out but I feel bad for whoever doesn't have them in their army yet and will have to pay that insane price
As long as the numbers go up GW will continue to raise prices. Eventually when no one buys the products anyone they will claim that it was the consumers fault. GW is not your friend, it is a company that has found a way to make your money theirs and they will not stop anymore than any other addict would suddenly quit. We are the high they ride.
Somebody did a Supply-Demand-Facility operation equation and forgot the most important thing in sales...PEOPLE ARE NOT DUMB. Make everything feel like a deal, regardless. Look at Bandai Gunpla. For the most part the kits are sold according to plastic weight. At least there is a strong correlation to that.
They take the meme "got to get those numbers up" way too literally and every chance they get. Seriously though, a few cents of paper tokens added shouldn't translate to 20% or more price creep.
I just cannot be asked to pay that much for a game. Most games I play with friends are upwards of 50 dollars and they’re ready out of the box. With the Killteam boxes, you’re not getting everything you need, you have to put it all together, etc. It’s why I’ll just continue to play it online and or with the one team I have physically.
It's actually to the point where you can buy one official GW polystyrene set.. OR you can print out TWENTY of them yourself out of quality resin for the same price. Different game though. The killteams now cost about 62 euros
@@Maxmillion77 should be around the same price though, similiar model count skirmish games. And necromunda is far cooler !!!!!!!
@@pabloalonsolasagabaster658 Oh I agree it should be! and also Necromunda is great. It has that classic grimdark feel that 40k is slowly losing.
Apart from che fact that the cards are sold separately, the worst is the Genestealer box: they stripped out the big piece from the original team and if you want it you have to buy it separately.
If you’re quick, I just bought a box of scouts on Amazon for $55
GW would probably make more money if they didn't raise prices so much
nah people still empty their warehouses, dont worry about their profit. they know how to max it :)
@@noonia i mean, if ebay and other resellers are anything to go by, SCALPERS clear their warehouses. And then sit there for 5 years trying to sell an indomitus box for double the price.
the sad thing is that whales will still buy their stuff regardless of the price. that's how companies make most of their money these days.
@@mrzeta7732 but businesses have to treat their customers as the enemy!
The cringe of 80 dollar kill teams vs space marine 2 is mind boggling
Yeah I basically split it such that the other guy was getting a 60 dollar kit. And based on the new pricing that might actually still be a good deal.
8:22 I did buy this box and split it with someone but i feel called out here.
Before getting the new Killteam box i bought corsair voidscarred to be my next project.
That and being what $60 for five models? The hilarious "they're elite, so you get five for the price of 10!" nonsense.
I'm excited for the new release. Interested in the Scions. But I can't be the only one that gets a new soft cover rule book and doesn't immediately go down to their FedEx or UPS and have them spiral bind it. I wish I could have them increase the sides of the margin so I can add notes
I just pre ordered 2x of every box in the release im really excited and totally sold on army in a single box model of play
Yeah some of these prices are atrocious... especially the fact that they're charging that much for year 1 teams that will get the legacy treatment after this year
I just want the night lords man
What do I think of GW pricing?
I wish the stingwings had enough helmets for the whole team, love the look of super future tau helmet on a giant bug lol
Carcharodons aka "Space Sharks"
I'm glad I already bought a box of SM Scouts! 😮
After publishing Mecha Combat.X. the Price diffrence between Papperback or Hardback is between £1-3 a book
Damn, you just put things in perspective saying "You know whats also 80$? Space Marine 2." I was still deciding on buying it or waiting, guess ill buy SM2 instead of a box of Yaegirs, will not pay 1 dollar per point for them (CAD)
Crimson Fists next, please.
I admire your tenacity. Have my like, brother.
@@zieg0r Thank you Brother.
At this point I genuinely look forward to your comment. When he does finally give us a CF scheme I’ll kinda be sad😂
@@primarchcharlemagne 🤣
Liking for Pedro everytime brother
Scouts: I'd eBay or pirate 2nd ed sergeants (bare head, sword and bolt pistol, smaller than primaris), or simply print scouts. There are only a trillion stls out there, after all.
GW prices went from 'expensive, but I like the models' to 'I like the models, but I'm not crazy'... Night Lords box price is 187pln in my local friendly game store, with a huge discount, while few years ago 175pln was the asking GW price for some of the most expensive 10 unit boxes! With same discount it would be around 130pln! You can't tell me it's not outregous to increase price by nearly 44% over around 5 years :|
Time to invest in a 3d printer...
I went to a new local game store, and thought "Holy crap, they're charging over MSRP for GW kits...they're hosed.". But then I realized I had just missed the last 2-3 price hikes (I don't buy GW stuff generally).
@@oskar6661 now that's an ooof... but yea, those prices are getting silly now.
Please can we have a studio tour Jay?
The Scions are cool - BUT WHY NOT ELYSIANS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO COOL AND COULD WORK LIKE VET GUARDSMEN (KRIEG)
As someone watching this a year later and just starting. Get the rules before the models. Bought a basic squad and immediately realized the won't explain all the options and what they mean. Like what's the difference between a dominion vs a battle sister squad and how do I know if I've built it correctly for that squad and not made an illegal set
I remember being upset seeing scalpers selling mandrakes for 80 bucks on eBay.
I quite like killteam because you could usually buy one box maybe 2 (such as deamons) and play a decent game but nearly £50 and for US even worse i cant really justify it for only 10 models, unless a team is absolute to die for ill pass them all now
Day 80 of asking Jay to paint a skitarii
I miss the old Stormtroopers. They had a look the Scions cannot live up to!
i am really confused, all of the old kill teams are gone from the warhammer website, what happened????
Reboxing into those new ones. I’m not getting it as I bought older boxes on Amazon and I am only buying the rules and approved ops cards
I want those vespids for my Tau and I think the kill team box is the only place to get them right now
GW knows most of the KT sales are for the main 40k game outside of a few.
Have you ever done a astra milatarum army? sorry if misspelled
I agree, im also quite disappointed that you cant have Inquisitorial Scions (inquisitorial stormtroopers) in Agents of the Imperium. -sure you can do it way around, but its not the same.
$230 IS A LOT OF MONEY JAY, even if splitting, and who gets what? ❤ your optimism is impressive, but your positivity is too near to shilling for GW!! 😂
Bro he was collecting armies in high school you can tell he’s got the wealthy background to back it up lmao no way me or anyone I know could afford that even now let alone as a kid lol I love him but he’s GW target Audience - cash whales 😅
In relation to how strong Fly is, they balance it with the Vespid by basically restricting their movement and shoot/fight options
I don’t see the prices on GW website. Are they still leaks at this point?
The range of prices does feel a bit scummy.
Wait where is he sourcing the new prices for kill team? They aren’t on pre-order yet and I can’t find this information anywhere.
Thanks for the video Jay, I look forward to your show.
Assembled (but mot yet painted!) My metal Vespid just I'm time for them to come out in plastic!! 😅😂
I got the “how” right 2 times in a row! This is my peak, nothing shall live up to this success.
Those armies with the price increase are going to do better in the addition so they're trying to raise the prices now
will there be battle reports of your training matches? :3
Scouts are still like 55 on Amazon; just picked some up this week
What a f**king smooth ad break.
"They wanna see what happens..."
3D printing gets more popular. That's what happens.
By the way have you heard of a game called Stargrave? For a box of Stargrave you can get several kill teams.
Love the work! Keep up the good work! ❤
Jay: 230 bones
Me: Nope!
Making Scouts $80 is absolutely insane considering they are both a Kill Team and a 40k unit. Thankfully I got my Scouts back around when they came out but I feel bad for whoever doesn't have them in their army yet and will have to pay that insane price
In Australia we already have to pay these sorts of prices. I acknowledge that our “dollar is worth less” but hey, it doesn’t make it sting any less 😅
I’d rather pay 80 AUD than 80 USD any day lmfao 😂
13th Company Space Wolves would be fun
All I'm hearing is that my dark angels scouts are all going to be built out of crusader squad neophytes
How indeed!
A legendary "how" this week!
Kill Team 2018 came with a heap of great terrain.
Sean the Nemesis dice? When?
They take the meme "got to get those numbers up" way too literally and every chance they get. Seriously though, a few cents of paper tokens added shouldn't translate to 20% or more price creep.
I just cannot be asked to pay that much for a game. Most games I play with friends are upwards of 50 dollars and they’re ready out of the box. With the Killteam boxes, you’re not getting everything you need, you have to put it all together, etc. It’s why I’ll just continue to play it online and or with the one team I have physically.
Surprised jay didn’t mention the not so subtle emperors children teases gw has been doing on their TH-cam channel.
You can get Zonewar for 70. comes with 10 models, terrain and rules. What's GW doing?
Kill team indeed all 5 of my compendium team got killed
It's actually to the point where you can buy one official GW polystyrene set.. OR you can print out TWENTY of them yourself out of quality resin for the same price.
You COULD buy one kill team set from GW... Or for the same price you can LITERALLY PRINT EVERY SINGLE KILL TEAM YOURSELF. Every... Single... One.
I went Grim Skull since the last price bump. We need to tell GW with our wallets they abusing. Buy used, 3D print or recast; whatever
