@@cheshc00 This! Why should I pay 20 - 30 USD for Army Painter's and GW's "sprue cutter" when I can go to walmart or hobby lobby and get a flush cutter for less than 10?
I think batch painting was more effective when we were working with the old GW models that basically looked the same. Nowadays, they are more individualized, so it doesn't save as much time as it used to do.
The Thermos and Coffee cup extra parts for the Krieg made me smile more than they should have. The mold lines and overconnection of parts to the sprues quickly brought out my poker face.
The ork half of the box brought my poker face back even quicker. Every model had parts on all of the different sprues so finding each part took way too long as I was assembling.
I am working on several teams at once. Finished the Necrons (Warriors, Immortals and Deathmarks) & Space Marines (Intercessors with different Boltrifles and Grenade Launchers, Assault Intercessors and Reivers) and started on a cheaty Custodes Box, just for the lols. Left to do after that are Tau, Deathguard and Imperial Guard.
Okay. I totally agree about the batch painting not being faster. I think that doing a base coat for something like an entire space marine armor is worth doing batch. But then doing pouches etc I find batch painting I miss things and end up having to go back and fix them when I discover it. I would love to see an experiment on that for a video.
I agree about a video about this. You always hear about batch painting being faster and more efficient. I could see where doing all the base coating in a batch working, but as said above, beyond that the details would become rushed and sloppy. I’m a slow painter regardless. So I’m curious if there’s be a difference with someone who’s already faster.
I think it becomes faster as soon as you start tacking on washes. Since they take a while to dry, you can save a lot of time waiting for 6 to dry instead of 1 at a time
I feel the same way. I don’t think I’ll do more than 4 or 5 minis at a time ever again. I’m finishing a box of German Grenadiers for Bolt Action and I’m spending more time going back and fixing things than would have had I just done a few at a time.
There probably is an efficiency factor that's potentially improved but it's so much more tedious. For me it loses the fun factor a lot faster and I find myself a lot more dissatisfied with the results I'm getting.
It really depends on the scale of operation. Doing 10 small models is definitely not worth the effort, unless you're already set up for that kind of process and used to it. That said, it could be worth doing just to learn better process control, but that's a subject for another time. 🤔
I am really on the fence about batch painting. My limited experience so far is that priming and base coats as a batch are faster but when your layering and adding fine details I prefer one at a time as I miss less stuff. I’ve got the kill team box but haven’t even had the time to open it yet. My current painting is on space wolves and when that’s complete I would like to try contrast paining some blood angels. I love the way you only care how you want them to look.
I won't even lie. Jihad played a few hours of 40K before built up my Krieg but I shit you not, witnessing how beautifully the overcoats and legs fit together on these models absolutely blew my mind!
I play Skaven in AoS and I find that batch painting really helps with stuff like Clan Rats. Where you have like battleline 60 models that no one is really gonna look to hard at.
Water bottle with beans. Best paint handle you can ask for. The beans keep the center of mass at the bottom and make it easier to stabilize the mini when painting.
You absolute maniac! So well done and beautiful team! I'm building 5 teams at once, Krieg, Death Guard & Tau. Necrons and Orks are done. As if the ork terrain in the box wasn't enough I added a Sanctum Administratus building, the sector imperialis ruins, and transterranic gantries. Was going to add another admin building, but I feel like waiting til they announce something new.
The box me and my friend split came with the books damaged and some of the ork bits broken and loose in the box, despite all that the models still look really good. Now I just need to paint my half
One question I have is; why build the model before painting? I always have the issue of not being able to access details because arms or weapons get in the way, and not getting a good angle to paint
nah batch painting is the way to go for speed. Way more time to switch paints than to switch models. But with that said batch painting just feels like you're not getting anywhere since you're doing the same step over and over, which is meh.
@@samsowden Potentially. I can see an argument being made for extra time spent cleaning your brush slowing you down (though you should always clean your brush regularly, even if you aren't changing colours). I think the main benefit of batch painting is the rhythm. If the models are similar, you're almost always doing the same motions. That means less time figuring out what to paint, where to paint, etc. I think batch painting is good for large sections (e.g., armor, coats) and pieces that are uniform across all models. But I'll do fiddly bits (e.g., pouches) model-by-model.
I got into Kill Team just recently. All the big boxes were gone from the market (except the starter kit) and Betha decima was still a ways off. I managed to buy a Gallowdark Killzone and have eventually gotten hold of the separate bigbox-specific terrain pieces for the gallowdark season, but It still pains me that I missed out on this box. The terrain is just insanely cool, and the content is so complete. The starter set, while an amazing deal, is still kind off a "kill team lite" experience. You have to expand it fairly quickly. Man this box was great!
Im really happy you like the new Kill Team. A friend and I started it togather and we like it a lot. Also a nice way to get my old models to the board as I never had enough models for 40k

I go back and forth with the batch painting theory.. I think it honestly depends on what you are painting.. It seems to work at times and then other times it doesn't.. It's a weird paradox??? I think I agree with the consensus that the base coat and major parts of minis that it works but once you get to the details its easier to do one at a time as I often miss things too like others have said!
Built both as an IG and ork player. Actually ended up buying a second box, ironically mainly because of the terrain in addition to the teams. Ill give the books and other kt extras to whoever in my group shows interest most likely. Cant wait for the krieg line to be fleshed out and the other kits to be released. Theyre not the exact same as the fw sculpts but they did a great job all the same. If GW does a plastic krieg army box in the future it will put many IG players in the poorhouse. Also the kommando kit is what the beast snaggas and new boyz kit should have been. Theyre excellent. Other than the nob they can be really flexible with a little work and they just look excellent.

I’ve suspected batch painting being slower, especially if you only have one painting handle and have to swap the minis in and out. Also, army painter barbed wire makes really good rebar if painted and sticking out of concrete. Models look great as usual. I hope your group switches over or at least gets to try the new edition soon! It’s the most fun game system GW has put out imo.
Please Please Please do several videos when you paint all the terrain as well! And please, if you would start out by covering everything with a rusty brown base color and then add different color chipped paint to the "formerly painted" areas, to make it all really gritty, oil stains and what not, that would be super awesome! Love your videos
16:24 None of the above. I got a resin printer and make models at a 100:1 ratio compared to GW's economic model so I can afford to make more models, play more games and work less hours to buy models. And what's better is I get to sculpt and design more of my own stuff rather than someone else's designs, making every creation truly my own and a unique contribution to my competitors gaming experience. 👍 Great paint work there, buddy, they look awesome!😎
Great video. I use double sided carpet tape rather than the 3m DS tape to hold my models for painting. I believe this is much cheaper to use and seems to work equally as well.
How was your experience swapping parts between the models? I've got octarius, and I really don't want to build a combo of guys that's possible with the model instructions given (seriously, making the confidant and the sergeant the same torso is beyond nuts). Is your experience encouraging for my upcoming weekend where I put them together? I'd like to put the bolter on the trooper who can be the hardened veteran, and maybe combine some of the kneeling medic's parts onto the running one so I can have a neat medic while also having a spotter. For lists, I'll probably have the kriegers and orks from the box and use this as a springboard for the sisters of battle force I've got.
Its incredibly easy. They're kind of the same multipose as intercessors where the legs go one way on the specific chests, but the arms can be put wherever you want really. If you want multiple gunners you have to figure out the arms though. (My confidant is using body 10, and my Sergeant is using body 4)
In fact, with the whole squad, I had vox use q, sniper use 2, gunner with plasma use 3, sgt use 4, medic use 5, demolitions use 6, flamer use 7, hardened use 8, spotter us 9, sgt use 10. so you can basically switch anything with any spot (though, getting the demolitions right took some extra cutting and editing.) Sorry for the double reply.
I found that any of the arms will fit any of the bodies. the arms are pared though so a left and right arm is a set, but you can glue them to any body. I did find that the part, 73 I believe the left arm for the special weapon is needed for all special weapons but it only comes with one. I got around this though because one of the shouldered lasgun arms is a perfect match so I cut off the gun and used that and it worked like a charm. there is alot of customizability with the kit but i would dry fit everything first to see if it looks good.
I am going to play devils advocate by saying, batch painting works. How exactly? Well you slather on base coats first, then do finer details after. I play Necromunda more than Kill Team, and since I wanted to be an advocate for the game, I bought all the gangs (even the dark uprising box) and most of the bounty hunters. I painted everything, the terrain was a separate, and I painted all eight gangs, and ten bounty hunters (not including my own hired guns), here's a few things: worry about finer details later, stick to one or two base coats, make leathers one or two different colors, make most metals one color, and do very little basing. Specially since the Necromunda bases are suppose to be industrial. But, I do say I like the result of these Kreig Guardsman color scheme, and I may end up just buying the men separately. Otherwise 10/10 and needs more Dakka and Big Shoota's
Once I get the new Combat Patrol Grey Knights, I’m building that Kill Team: Justicar with Nemesis Halberd Warrior 1 with Nemesis Daemonhammer Warrior 2 with Nemesis Falchions Warrior 3 with Nemesis Force Sword Gunner with Psycannon
I've decided to try my hand at batch painting my Delaque gang, and whilst I'm not really sure if i'm saving myself time, I am finding it to personally be a painful, dull process filled with a lot of 'Oh shit i forgot to do those little cuff links again'
I dislike putting figures together and painting them - this is how I actually paint my figures. I paint all of the same models of the same type at the same time, one color at a time. I really don't care if I miss details or if it doesn't look that great since nobody can actually see anything from the sides of the table anyway (let's be real were all in our 40s), and I only care about playing the game. I just pumped out an entire 1000 point cities of Sigmar army in less than a day doing this, and I'm very slow and lazy.
Old video I know, but as someone newer in the modeling and painting side of 40K I was wondering if this box is getting? 99$ for 20 models and some terrain seems like a good deal
Sliding your hobby knife across the top instead of down the lip of the box like a savage. And what's up with your plate wet palette? Did you make this vid before retiring it?
Batch painting is weird. It's either way faster or just as slow as one at a time depending on what you're painting. Doing Necrons that are 80% dry brushing? Batch paint them. Doing some Thousand Sons where 80% of the model is gold trim. Do them one at a time because painting gold trim for hours on end for a bunch of models is a death sentence
Thinking about building a set or two of Kreigsmen as heretic Nurgle-worshiping guardsmen maybe kit-bashed with some zombie bits and skulls. I think they could make for some really thematic looking cultists for a mixed Deathguard/demon warband. My personal kill team though is going to be ork kommandos--probably with head swaps--the new ork heads are so small. How are they gonna chin-butt anyone with those little eldar chins? I've had a love of the sneaky gits for about six 40k editions now. 😉
I imagine you might have been able to finish them more to your liking if you'd been able to start sooner, and didn't have the stream to pull you away. Of course, neither could be helped and the results are great all the same :)
I'm currently working on .... Deathwatch KillTeam Chaos Heretic Astartes KT Plague Marines KT Deamons KT Necrons KT Mechanicum KT Sister's KT & I Currently Finished Kommando KillTeam Krieg KT Grey Knights KT Thousand Son's KT Astartes KT Custodes KT Plus All The Terrain from box an extra i had from a Kickstarter way back. Uncle Atom would say that bunch painting makes sense but only in moderation. Like 3-5 models max. Otherwise it's easy to reach a state where you get bored or don't feel much accomplishment. Try out bunch painting fewer models next time. Maybe 1 prototype model and than 3 sets of 3.
I personally wouldn’t have done the last layer of blue on the helmets, the gritty grey of the helmet looks brilliant but like you said you’ve done how you want and they look amazing either way
That AP Barbwire is acually called Security seal wire. And if you are an club or an group buying an larger roll would be cheaper and split it. Or if you know anyone who puts security seals on stuff they probly give you a few meters for free.
Iv only played warhammer 40k a few times. Lost every game but 1 so fun. So id imagine Kill Team would be a blast as well ? A game were you have a blast if you lose is my type of game :D
I'm excited to bring a new death guard kill team and probably use some of the ones I got out of the dg hero space marines box. But I'm excited to put my kriegers together, too.
I have 2 questions: A, How much detail do the new krieg have compared to the resin models? As to me they seem slightly under detailed, or am I wrong. B, Just how poseable are the models? As it seems like they don't have too much room for conversion work (like most of GW's models nowadays!). Otherwise really nice work. Edit: Three questions I suppose: C, Is it possible to create a Mole Launcher Team straight from the box?
I think the kreig are about identical to the forge world ones, but no no heavy weapons in the box, you can build all the kill team specual units and special weapons or 10 lascannon guardsman
@@EonsOfBattle Thanks for the reply, the reason I mentioned the launcher team is because I thought it would have been not only quite thematic with the Kreig but also allow for balancing the gameplay around the idea of having two people load and fire a heavy weapon (whew!). Just an idea, for a fairer gameplay addition.
I don’t think that batch painting is "faster" necessarily, I do think that it results in a more consistent final product when your trying to do things like Tyranids who are basically the same thing over and over.
The army painter barbed wire is actually sealing wire that you can get from a hardware/plumbing store for probably like 10x less.
So true! - So much hobby stuff you can just get at a local hardware store. They need the money these days

None of the above.
Great paint work there, buddy, they look awesome!😎
That is awsome work good job👍🏾 on the models.
Beep ....beep ...... beep I am so mesmerised watching your videos really enjoy them beep ..... beep great work 😉👌👍
Great video. I use double sided carpet tape rather than the 3m DS tape to hold my models for painting. I believe this is much cheaper to use and seems to work equally as well.
Time well spent, they look fantastic!!
Damn.. the casual nature of you running your knife down the front of the box 😳😬 is not want to damage the box tbf
Brilliant. Well done, Maestro!
these look awesome! but id really like to know what paints you used
How did you build both the bolter and plasma guy? They both use part 73!
one of the arms carying lasguns is nearly identical so I just cut off the lasgun.
after some fomo, i struggled to buy/not to buy this.
now i'm so happy that i didnt added another box to my "to do" pile.
I was a little late to octarius but I ordered it a day ago, you can build both the kreigs and the Orkney right?
Once I get the new Combat Patrol Grey Knights, I’m building that Kill Team:
Justicar with Nemesis Halberd
Warrior 1 with Nemesis Daemonhammer
Warrior 2 with Nemesis Falchions
Warrior 3 with Nemesis Force Sword
Gunner with Psycannon
sounds awsome! I want to build so many kill teams!
Great video!
Old video I know, but as someone newer in the modeling and painting side of 40K I was wondering if this box is getting? 99$ for 20 models and some terrain seems like a good deal
Cheaper now, 65 USD
Sliding your hobby knife across the top instead of down the lip of the box like a savage. And what's up with your plate wet palette? Did you make this vid before retiring it?
it's kinda impressive that it seems he didn't actually scratch the box
Every time they have to go "pick up their misshipped box" makes me laugh so hard
1:43 that do that to me tooo 😂
I imagine you might have been able to finish them more to your liking if you'd been able to start sooner, and didn't have the stream to pull you away. Of course, neither could be helped and the results are great all the same :)
exactly!

I burnt through the Terrain, Orks, and Kriegers done in 3 days, one day spent for each
What glue was that you used I seem to recognize it but can't figure out its name
I like the look you created on the kill team, good job.
Fantastic job dude those look awsome 👍
I had purchased a box of battle sisters for KT1 and I’ll be carrying them over to the new version
I will never be able to refer to GW as anything but "James Workshop" like he's a personal acquaintance after watching this video.
Oh hey! that was my Grey Knight!! :D
Best intro yet
that's neat with the baking soda. is that just a condiment bottle?
Nice job! These guys look beautiful!
Done-ish?!?!!!? 😂 this dumps on so much out there and you bashed them out in a weekend. Magnificent painting
Impressive stamina my dude!
Iv only played warhammer 40k a few times. Lost every game but 1 so fun. So id imagine Kill Team would be a blast as well ? A game were you have a blast if you lose is my type of game :D
The specialist actually look pretty awesome and have given me some ideas for my own Kreig
Batch Painting is super effective, I took what normally would've taken 10 hours painting each figure on its own, into 5 hours by batch painting
I'm excited to bring a new death guard kill team and probably use some of the ones I got out of the dg hero space marines box. But I'm excited to put my kriegers together, too.
Fantastic looking team, nice work!
I used the same barbed wire on my team. The stuff looks great!
I have 2 questions:
A, How much detail do the new krieg have compared to the resin models?
