People are scared about the longevity of the battery. (The industry has to come up with something. Maybe a 15-20 year guarantee on the battery or something like a coulance on the repairs.)
I won’t buy any ford truck at the prices they want today and definitely not an ev truck of any kind. I want to make it home with my trailer not be stuck in the mountains because the battery died.
This fear, uncertainty, and doubt has no basis in reality. There are quite a few 100k+ mile Lightnings with >95% battery health that have never had an oil, transmission, or differential fluid change. Regenerative braking also reduces wear and tear on the brakes. But that's cool. Y'all can keep paying $100 a week in gas, in addition to all the fluids and belts and other crap you have to replace as scheduled maintenance.
Lots of truck owners won't like electrics because it won't fit their needs. Many truck owners are pavement princesses (like me) who want to haul the kids to daycare, get furniture, bring crap to the dump, and skip the gas station.
I have a client who has a Ford Lightning, and he does like it, but he install a charging station at his shop. He uses it to pickup parts for his shop. He also only lives 10 miles from his business. He doesn't expect to tow anything.
Or, you know, just "Hey Google, text my wife." But if you do need to glance at a map, your eyes spend less time off the road trying to focus on a small screen.
They are all overpriced, overly complicated and provide very little value for the money, not to mention a very low driving range when all factors are taken into account (weather, payload etc...)
I drove an F-150 Lariat for the last 20 years. This year i bought a Platinum Lightning and I LOVE it! It's the best vehicle that I've ever had. I get that it's not for everyone, but for most suburban folks, it's better than a regular vehicle (assuming you charge at home). And now you can charge at Tesla chargers too

I agree with you about not having to search for buttons or displays to drive your car and use the accessories. The whole idea of having blinker controls, wiper controls on the steering column is so that you DON'T have to take your eyes off the road searching for things. Once you gain the memory of these controls you don't have to look or fumble around to find something, bottom line you don't have to LOOK. I wonder how many people know what the safe amount of seconds it is to avert your attention from the road ahead, when I was training to be a school bus driver I was not suprised that it was 2 seconds, alot can happen when your concentration is averted from the road, a lot of bad things that is.
Cadillac sold the XT4 for 3 years over here with a 2.0 174hp diesel and a 230hp 2.0 gas engine. From 2020-2023 they sold 703 models.. They hope to get better numbers with the Lyriq which you can officially order by now or the Celestiq in 2025.. But I feel like Cadillac will fail again, because they don't have a bad reputation over here for being unreliable but everyone thinks their gas guzzlers and if you'd want a premium car you could get one of the German Trinity like a Q8 E-Tron which is much more reliable has more dealerships around and drives better.
You should see the Sierras of California on Interstate 80 during a winter storm. Loads of EVs all over stuck and dead batteries. Tow companies get real busy.
Facts. I'd love to see what kind of sustainable torque EV trucks have without recharging. I live in way upstate NY where the buses don't run and EVs are not selling at all.
it’s not about saving energy, it’s about having lower CO2 emissions. Even counting the power station that makes the electricity, the carbon footprint is much smaller.
More energy requires more fuel used. No getting around physics. You are probably not old enough to remember real air pollution. What we have nowadays is insignificant compared to the 60s and 70s.
There’s a nice map on the Tesla that tells you exactly where you need to go. People who drive teslas ain’t worried about any of that, we have a convenient network. Got 3 charging stations w multiple chargers within a 5 mi radius, the closest is 1 mile from my house. I don’t need it, got my set up at home. I wake up to a full “tank” every morning, haven’t set foot in a gas station in like 3 months for my other vehicles. People who run out of juice have themselves to blame. Who just drives without knowing where to charge?

F-150 lightnings can charge at Tesla chargers now. You stop at Buc-ees, put it on the charger, use the bathroom, get a brisket sandwich and a soda. Eat and 5 minutes later, you're charged to 80%. That's what my road trips are like. But if you're just going around town most of the time there are lots of advantages.
Scotty there's still something I like about an ev pulling out and mashing it that makes my old 99 cumminsfeel like there's a reason to live again! My old gal ain't fast but she does it with style!

Me too until you're in my Lightning's rear view mirror. 0-60 in about 4 seconds, 12.4 second quarter mile. Bonus: I don't flood the intersection with noxious diesel exhaust.

@@Oldschoolrules123 Real talk, not just gainsaying. For towing and long range driving under a deadline, you're right that ICE is probably the way to go. But if you're waiting to pass me at a charging station you'll be following me for a couple hundred miles. As a daily driver and for hauling stuff I'm probably not going to be on the road that long. Look, I pay around 10 - 15 bucks a week to charge my Lightning at home. I don't change oil or any other fluids, no belts to change... The only scheduled maintenance is tire rotation and maybe cabin air filter replacement. How's your TCO compare? You do yourself a disservice by prioritizing team loyalty over considering the right tool for the job. Try a test drive, for real. You're missing out.
1:42 electric motors are very good at pulling (trains are diesel electric). 100% torque at 0 rpm. As you know, the problem is the power consumption. It is very high when towing and the battery has only so much energy. I WANT A DIESEL ELECTRIC TRUCK, please and thank you.
I agree, train engines are effectively hybrids, they use a traction motor, no need for gears. Off course they are not direct drive, there is a mechanical connection to connect the motors to the drive wheels. Very efficient for pulling heavy weights. I like that idea of a diesel electric truck. Might be the perfect option for otr trucking.
I know someone who has a 68 dump bed that gets better gas mileage than his 2009 F-250. I really like the look of 60s and 70s pickups, and the gas mileage and simple design have me interested in getting an older truck myself. Are there any 60s-70s pickups that you would recommend as reliable, practical vehicles?
The electric truck would be nice if you're just going to go out on like on a trip and go fishing or something however you have to plan really carefully because there might not be anywhere to charge it up when it dies so you might not be able to go that far

Then don't buy a truck. I have a diesel, and I pull 15k-20k every time I get in it. A truck is meant to pull and haul if you don't need to do any of that buy a suv or AWD car.
And could you imagine if something happened, and it did short out somewhere, and you did get electrocuted. I'm just not sold on electrical vehicles. Not yet. Let alone our electrical grid isn't ready for a lot of electric cars.
The amount of houses being built in my area is insane we went from 3k people to 19k in 3 years and the area is just done for. Thousands of CA people moved here and can tell because theyre all angry and cant drive and have 100k plus cars...
Since the humongous battery is under the vehicles and of course it should be sealed from water, I'm curious if these vehicles can maintain its power when one drives in continuous puddles of water on rainy days or will it stall?

@@SaraAlexander-l9o I've borrowed a smart car while in California. Offered free to use by a friend, while I was working out there. It was very interesting little thing. Sort of frightening on the 15. And worrisome climbing up to yucca valley from palm springs.. but once on top of the hill it was good little car. Could be parked anywhere with ease. Not much in groceries and I wasnt out there for style points.. too much cash to be made to worry bout that. Groceries were impossible to get with two people in it. Its acceleration was non-existent so had to plan ahead before pulling out onto a highway
You probably mean a Smart ForTwo. Well they are still selling vehicles. In Europe they have 2 SUVs because everybody wants SUVs the #1 (spoken hashtag 1) and the #3 The ForTwo was a good car for what it is. If you live in Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles or New York and you have to park on the street it's a gem. You don't need much power anyways, the speeds in the city are low so even if you get involved in a smaller crash everything will be fine, body panels are made out of plastic, but there is a demand for small cars like this in the US I fear that's why they're still expensive and will stay so I think.

I see so many Rivian R1T out where i live, but i have only ever seen 1x Lighting ever. Ive even seen more cybertrucks than i have lightnings. This was a real fail by ford.
Electric motor are well adapted for extreme heavy loads. Think diesel electric locomotive, steam or diesel turbo electric ships. These are just not battery powered go carts.
If they would lower the prices of the lightning up here in Canada they would sell like crazy, But here they are 127 thousand or more. If we could get them for 60 grand Id buy two. Im pretty sure if they hold up reliably over the next couple years you will start seeing sales increase significantly.

You never talk about Mazdas. Are they flying under the radar? We had a Mazda 3 with the bigger N/A engine and loved it. We bought it because we had a contract for a job, where we did 1,500 miles a month. All of the magazines like the big SUV/van but what about the Mazda 3s & 5s?
Scotty, I saw the tesla Cyber truck for the first time this past weekend at a solar energy company here in Puerto Rico, and I have to say I was in no way impressed . I thought it was ugly and useless. A lot of kids wanted their picture with it , but that was about it as far as attention getter.
If you're going to spend that much money on the truck you might as well just get the gasoline truck. An electric truck would be nice you just can't tow very much with it. And it takes a long time to charge and with gas all you got to do is refill the tank
Back in the horse and buggy days, the didn't want cars either, as they didn't run on hay. Electric cars and trucks are the future, as are flying cars. It will take some time for everyone to adjust. Instead of charging the vehicle, they need to have an interchangeable battery pack, like electric fork lifts.
They're all buying the hybrids, not electics, they're still way too much for what they are. Im an EV lover and id think id go for a hybrid just for practicality. But if you gave me a vehicle for 15-20k with 250+ mile range, i would go EV right away, but for 40k and up im getting a hybrid. My dad just bought a Maverick (former Ford employee) I asked if it was hybrid and he said no there was a big waiting list for those so he got the gas. I was kind of disappointed, but makes sense, i too would have went for a hybrid over full EV, theres probably a lot of demand for those. But if they brought in the cheap EV's id go for them, and they should, We shouldn't need a hybrid for city driving, an EV could take care of that easy, and make the air a lot cleaner.
I seen a commercial today for a Hummer EV, to LEASE as a well qualified buyer is $849/mo. Who TF would pay $849/mo?! That's not even including car insurance. My mortgage is LESS than that, and that INCLUDES property taxes AND homeowners insurance!

Some EVs and electric scooters self combusted from being in high water from hurricane Helene. Having driven through high water in the past I dont want to also be concerned the car might start on fire from that.
I work at a VW dealership. In total we have gotten 50 2024 ID.4's and only sold 20 of them. Have 30 of them sitting on the lot that no one wants. Oh wait, out of those 20 that were sold, 3 of them were traded in already. Then we have 8 or 9 used 2023 ID.4's.
I sold my single cab silverado 1500 for this thing since Ford discounted them so hard end of summer. I dont think lightning EVs look good with their aero nose and baby diaper rear end, but damn if it isn't the fastest most comfortable and reliable truck I've owned. Sure I don't save any money owning it. I just smile and look for excuses to drive. I tow within the city bounds 4 times a month for my business so it's no problem. I admit I would never tow out of county. Too much range lose

@@Americaonline0 Wrong. Transmission is an eCVT, which is virtually indestructible. Battery+electric motors act as a buffer for the engine, which makes the engine run leisurely and optimally for reduced wear. And everyone already knows about the brake pads on hybrids.

This fear, uncertainty, and doubt has no basis in reality. There are quite a few 100k+ mile Lightnings with >95% battery health that have never had an oil, transmission, or differential fluid change. Regenerative braking also reduces wear and tear on the brakes. But that's cool. Y'all can keep paying $100 a week in gas, in addition to all the fluids and belts and other crap you have to replace as scheduled maintenance.

Lots of truck owners won't like electrics because it won't fit their needs. Many truck owners are pavement princesses (like me) who want to haul the kids to daycare, get furniture, bring crap to the dump, and skip the gas station.

I have a client who has a Ford Lightning, and he does like it, but he install a charging station at his shop. He uses it to pickup parts for his shop. He also only lives 10 miles from his business. He doesn't expect to tow anything.

I drove an F-150 Lariat for the last 20 years. This year i bought a Platinum Lightning and I LOVE it! It's the best vehicle that I've ever had. I get that it's not for everyone, but for most suburban folks, it's better than a regular vehicle (assuming you charge at home). And now you can charge at Tesla chargers too

I agree with you about not having to search for buttons or displays to drive your car and use the accessories. The whole idea of having blinker controls, wiper controls on the steering column is so that you DON'T have to take your eyes off the road searching for things. Once you gain the memory of these controls you don't have to look or fumble around to find something, bottom line you don't have to LOOK. I wonder how many people know what the safe amount of seconds it is to avert your attention from the road ahead, when I was training to be a school bus driver I was not suprised that it was 2 seconds, alot can happen when your concentration is averted from the road, a lot of bad things that is.

Cadillac sold the XT4 for 3 years over here with a 2.0 174hp diesel and a 230hp 2.0 gas engine.
From 2020-2023 they sold 703 models..
They hope to get better numbers with the Lyriq which you can officially order by now or the Celestiq in 2025.. But I feel like Cadillac will fail again, because they don't have a bad reputation over here for being unreliable but everyone thinks their gas guzzlers and if you'd want a premium car you could get one of the German Trinity like a Q8 E-Tron which is much more reliable has more dealerships around and drives better.

it’s not about saving energy, it’s about having lower CO2 emissions. Even counting the power station that makes the electricity, the carbon footprint is much smaller.

I couldn’t stand the anxiety of finding a charger when taking road trips. Let alone sit for so long while charging.
There’s a nice map on the Tesla that tells you exactly where you need to go. People who drive teslas ain’t worried about any of that, we have a convenient network. Got 3 charging stations w multiple chargers within a 5 mi radius, the closest is 1 mile from my house. I don’t need it, got my set up at home. I wake up to a full “tank” every morning, haven’t set foot in a gas station in like 3 months for my other vehicles. People who run out of juice have themselves to blame. Who just drives without knowing where to charge?

F-150 lightnings can charge at Tesla chargers now. You stop at Buc-ees, put it on the charger, use the bathroom, get a brisket sandwich and a soda. Eat and 5 minutes later, you're charged to 80%. That's what my road trips are like. But if you're just going around town most of the time there are lots of advantages.
Scotty there's still something I like about an ev pulling out and mashing it that makes my old 99 cumminsfeel like there's a reason to live again! My old gal ain't fast but she does it with style!

But if you're waiting to pass me at a charging station you'll be following me for a couple hundred miles. As a daily driver and for hauling stuff I'm probably not going to be on the road that long.
Look, I pay around 10 - 15 bucks a week to charge my Lightning at home. I don't change oil or any other fluids, no belts to change... The only scheduled maintenance is tire rotation and maybe cabin air filter replacement. How's your TCO compare? You do yourself a disservice by prioritizing team loyalty over considering the right tool for the job. Try a test drive, for real. You're missing out.

1:42 electric motors are very good at pulling (trains are diesel electric). 100% torque at 0 rpm. As you know, the problem is the power consumption. It is very high when towing and the battery has only so much energy. I WANT A DIESEL ELECTRIC TRUCK, please and thank you.
I agree, train engines are effectively hybrids, they use a traction motor, no need for gears. Off course they are not direct drive, there is a mechanical connection to connect the motors to the drive wheels. Very efficient for pulling heavy weights. I like that idea of a diesel electric truck. Might be the perfect option for otr trucking.
I believe that is how the Chevy Volt works.

The electric truck would be nice if you're just going to go out on like on a trip and go fishing or something however you have to plan really carefully because there might not be anywhere to charge it up when it dies so you might not be able to go that far

And worrisome climbing up to yucca valley from palm springs.. but once on top of the hill it was good little car. Could be parked anywhere with ease. Not much in groceries and I wasnt out there for style points.. too much cash to be made to worry bout that.
Groceries were impossible to get with two people in it. Its acceleration was non-existent so had to plan ahead before pulling out onto a highway

The ForTwo was a good car for what it is. If you live in Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles or New York and you have to park on the street it's a gem. You don't need much power anyways, the speeds in the city are low so even if you get involved in a smaller crash everything will be fine, body panels are made out of plastic, but there is a demand for small cars like this in the US I fear that's why they're still expensive and will stay so I think.

I see so many Rivian R1T out where i live, but i have only ever seen 1x Lighting ever. Ive even seen more cybertrucks than i have lightnings. This was a real fail by ford.
Electric motor are well adapted for extreme heavy loads. Think diesel electric locomotive, steam or diesel turbo electric ships. These are just not battery powered go carts.
If they would lower the prices of the lightning up here in Canada they would sell like crazy, But here they are 127 thousand or more. If we could get them for 60 grand Id buy two. Im pretty sure if they hold up reliably over the next couple years you will start seeing sales increase significantly.

Scotty, I saw the tesla Cyber truck for the first time this past weekend at a solar energy company here in Puerto Rico, and I have to say I was in no way impressed . I thought it was ugly and useless. A lot of kids wanted their picture with it , but that was about it as far as attention getter.
If you're going to spend that much money on the truck you might as well just get the gasoline truck. An electric truck would be nice you just can't tow very much with it. And it takes a long time to charge and with gas all you got to do is refill the tank

Back in the horse and buggy days, the didn't want cars either, as they didn't run on hay. Electric cars and trucks are the future, as are flying cars. It will take some time for everyone to adjust. Instead of charging the vehicle, they need to have an interchangeable battery pack, like electric fork lifts.
They're all buying the hybrids, not electics, they're still way too much for what they are. Im an EV lover and id think id go for a hybrid just for practicality. But if you gave me a vehicle for 15-20k with 250+ mile range, i would go EV right away, but for 40k and up im getting a hybrid. My dad just bought a Maverick (former Ford employee) I asked if it was hybrid and he said no there was a big waiting list for those so he got the gas. I was kind of disappointed, but makes sense, i too would have went for a hybrid over full EV, theres probably a lot of demand for those. But if they brought in the cheap EV's id go for them, and they should, We shouldn't need a hybrid for city driving, an EV could take care of that easy, and make the air a lot cleaner.
EVs will improve the way computers did, and it’s gonna change the market. Not all will be able to stay in the race.
I seen a commercial today for a Hummer EV, to LEASE as a well qualified buyer is $849/mo. Who TF would pay $849/mo?! That's not even including car insurance. My mortgage is LESS than that, and that INCLUDES property taxes AND homeowners insurance!

Some EVs and electric scooters self combusted from being in high water from hurricane Helene. Having driven through high water in the past I dont want to also be concerned the car might start on fire from that.

I work at a VW dealership. In total we have gotten 50 2024 ID.4's and only sold 20 of them. Have 30 of them sitting on the lot that no one wants. Oh wait, out of those 20 that were sold, 3 of them were traded in already. Then we have 8 or 9 used 2023 ID.4's.
I sold my single cab silverado 1500 for this thing since Ford discounted them so hard end of summer. I dont think lightning EVs look good with their aero nose and baby diaper rear end, but damn if it isn't the fastest most comfortable and reliable truck I've owned. Sure I don't save any money owning it. I just smile and look for excuses to drive. I tow within the city bounds 4 times a month for my business so it's no problem. I admit I would never tow out of county. Too much range lose

@@Americaonline0 Wrong. Transmission is an eCVT, which is virtually indestructible. Battery+electric motors act as a buffer for the engine, which makes the engine run leisurely and optimally for reduced wear. And everyone already knows about the brake pads on hybrids.
So now you have TWO systems to maintain! Two systems to fail on you! All the problems of owning a vehicle times 2! Good luck!😂
