John has been playing real good since he arrived, but today he was the best player on the ice! As a Leafs fan I was quite surprised seeing Tavares outskating and outmuscling his opponents! He looked like ten years ago! Incredible performance!
He deserves a lot of criticism for his playoff performance with the Leafs, but I do respect that he chooses to represent his country at this stage of his career. A lot of veteran NHLers skip this tournament to rest up and it doesn't have the same cache as the Olympics.
Sadly, a lot of people who comment on hockey videos know very little about hockey.

He did all the work to set up at least 1 OT game winner. He also is key on faceoffs and digging in the corners, something that seems to scare Marner. But he is older; so, the Leafs need Matthews to step up and do what he did in Game 2 of the Boston series more often than not. Tavares is a really good player for the Leafs, but Matthews needs to be THE answer.

Who scores the series clinching goal last year. Who set up an OT game winner this year. He is older, obviously, but this idea that he does nothing is false. What would make you happy? If he scored 2 goals per game?
All this Tavares bashing is hilarious, I think he's one of the focused, hard working, creative guys on the 'Laughs' in close (where the others don't go). This isn't a Toronto video, so I digress. Go Canada. Salary cap issues aside, Tavares' best option is to sign anywhere else.

Leafs have too many passengers nobody wants to take the wheel & steer the 🚢 away from the huge ice berg that is vastly approaching & bc nobody but Nylander steps up they hit that big iceberg everytime & they sink like the Titanic!

The only reason the NYI even made the playoffs while JT was there was because of JT. That's why the owner was so pissed when JT broke his leg while playing for Canada. JT was everything to them. The NYI were a gong show while JT was there. Remember GM Garth Snow? No dedicated arena to play in, etc.
