The Leafs should keep the core players together Top 3 lines. Replace the complete 4th line. Morgan Riely and TJ Brodie need to go, with upgrades. Replace G- Samsonov with someone else!

I think the Leafs signed him on a Friday and no announcement is to give the weekend to talk to Berube about who he'd like to bring in as assitant coaches and possibly announce an all new coaching staff on Tuesday maybe? Maybe it could be a tactical move, sending a message to the players that change is coming. Could also be a move to see if they could sway Marner, Tavares and/or Reilly in waiving their clauses ?
Hurricanes should try to trade for Saros and give some pieces back to Nashville in exchange.
Hopefully Brad can resign:Domi,Eddy,Jones.

Dont resign bertuzzi. Domi and Edmundson are musts. Matthwes needs another big body like an lawson crouse, vatrano, or mantha... Marner should waive his nmc because he wasting his time. Not going to be resigned. Get your assets and 2 guys with some cap relief.
Though Maclean was more inclined... Tor has offensive structure and shown in playoffs that they lack a scoring punch. Cant be playing much better defense IMO if its not 3 goals or more...
Marner will definitely be re-signed. Funny how so many clueless "fans" want Marner gone but has been regularly their best player in regular season and great in the playoffs for years now. Yes, he doesn't hit and yes he was injured this year, but he does everything in his power to help. Every single team would be lined up to get him and morons want him gone. Definitely bring back Burtuzzi. Build on what we already have. Murrey is gone. Samsonnov is gone, Anderson. Also bring back Edmundson.

Babcock was a cup winner and he didn't work. Granted he is a jerk so personality was a factor.

How can a first year team like Vegas get all the way to the finals when the Leafs can't get past the first round in over a half century? It's got to be the culture which means it's ingrained in the franchise. The Cleveland Browns were a perennial bottom dweller and when the franchise moved to Baltimore they won a Superbowl in 4 years.
Let’s not kid ourselves: Berube won a Cup because Binnington caught fire. His teams were not good otherwise.
You don’t do what he did by luck. There is skill involved.
I think the word Physicality is the wrong word. This team needs defensive culture...chasing physicality would be a mistake. I think they need some cap space for FA so Marner might need to go. I don't think anything happens with Tavares. Leafs need to get a goalie and some defensive depth that can create offense from the back end.
The word that’s lacking for the diva core 4 (less so Nylander) is testosterone. Will imposing, sacrifice, hunger, etc. the culture needs to change and fortunately for the team, the player that most represents that culture is the one who’s contract is about to expire, Marner. Might have to eat some salary or give up an asset to get rid of him, but he and his daddy and entourage must go. The most overvalued player in the league. Let’s see how many points he gets without Matthews. He has what is arguably the most lucrative job/circumstances to inflate points of any winger in the league. Automatic top minutes, regardless of performance, no centerman responsibilities yet he’s a playmaker (perimeter one at that) linemates who 1, does the physical work, other one is best goal scorer in the world, list goes on.
Marner is a 9.5M? excellent passer and can dance around opponents regular season winger, but in the postseason…he’s a 3.5M secondary offense 3rd liner on a contender.

Sign bert, domi, eddie, jones (can be a good back up still mans decent and get him back for dirt), dewar for 4th line, liljgren or robertson.. Lilly I think can do decent w another year in toronto or you keep him for trade pieces come trade deadline like robertson n such..
I love gregor but we got McMann and they are similar players, mcmann more skill.. Robertson I love but this team how its working out w cowan coming soon he gonna be better off somewhere else to show his true talent in the top 6 w more development.. But again could get him back for cheap & have a trading piece

Carolina's scoring-by-committee approach doesn't work in the playoffs. There's no finisher or sniper on that team that really scares me. Not one.
And the further they get in the playoffs the more the opposing goalie will be better than their goalie. Bobrovsky last year, and Shersterkin this year.
D'angelo won't be back. Pesce is a tough call. They did no negotiations all season. Him and Skjei are a good pairing. Teuvo would really be good to keep. Guentzel, depending on what he's looking for, could scuttle signing another player. I said this all last summer, that the 'Canes needed to get a #1 goalie. They did a patch job, and that won''t work. Now they either trade Anderson, who has one year left, and maybe trade for Saros from Nashville, or Ullmark from the Bruins. They currently have close to $25 mil in cap space, not including how much the cap will increase; word is it will jump 6 to 8 million. With $33/$34 million they should be able to do alot. Orlov only has one year at $7.5 left, so long term, they seem to be in good shape. But this team needs a killer instinct to get to the Finals. And then there's re - upping Brind'Amour.

@@Mooseman327 They have to go out and get a #1 goalie. This team is in the middle of it's competitive window. If they don't win the Cup in the next two seasons, they'll start going backwards. Waddell says signing Brind'Amour is just a formality. Then get it done!
The Leafs need a major overhaul. Just getting rid of a few nobodies and Marner won't be enough.
I do not want to lose marner, he’s going to go somewhere and prove a ton of people wrong. But he’s not worth what he’s going to demand. Just like Matthews and nylander aren’t worth what they demanded. Insane contracts and will forever haunt us

Everything that he said in the opening commentary is probably false. The first time one of the "core four" crybabys throws a fit Berube will be told to lay off by management. They care nothing about winning, only about selling tickets.

Liljegren can walk too. I'd take Edmundson over him anyday. Reilly is good offensively but not so much defensively.

@@Mattejayy He actually did. You, like so many others, focus on goals scored for, alone. Most pay little to know attention about other factors, such as, passing, set ups, defense, etc. Matthews is great at takeaways but plays little defense. Nylander is uses on, just about, everything. Nylander NEEDS someone to set him up to even have a chance. He's, usually, the first man up because he doesn't get back far enough to help the defense. If the opposition clears the zone and gets into the Leafs end, Nylander will casually skates back, but only so far, and only if he doesn't just leave the ice. Marner had more goals and points then any other player on the team last year, in the playoffs, and that doesn't even count to what he did defensively. Despite not being fully healthy, Marner played all 7 games this year while Matthews and Nylander sat out for a stomach ache and a head ache. Nylander's goals were the help of a Bruins player and Leafs other players. Marner does everything asked of him while the other 2 care more about personal achievements then the team actually winning.

Leaf management is responsible for awful nmc long term contracts. A few years ago shanahan said that players need to take a discount like they did when he played for Detroit to be competitive. But then he and Dubus gave insane money and term to players who had not won anything!!! The secondary players keep getting shuffled because they can't afford decent players eg Hymen, Kadri. Edmonston looks like he may be in same category. Marner should be traded only if they can get above average dman or goalie in return
