Cod Liver Oil is exceptionally sensitive to oxidation and when it is spoiled it is very unhealthy. What your Mother gave you was not good if it tasted bad. I buy the freshest cans of cod livers in their own oil from Iceland and keep them in the fridge till I consume them. I like to eat this with a variety of other stuff, but it is a matter of taste of course. Once the can is opened, it must be consumed within two days and kept refrigerated. I grew up on the seashore so fishy stuff is 'mother's milk to me' :)

This is SO informative! I can’t understand why we’re always told to “check with your doctor or PCP” when they know nothing about being healthy. They only know about disease, drugs, and surgeries, which admittedly sometimes are necessary. But in many circumstances, probably more than we realize is not necessary and supporting our natural healing process is more powerful although it may take a bit longer. Thank you for this important education!

One day my wife came home with a bottle of D3. She talked to a pharmacist. It didn't work immediately, but after a couple of days it was miraculous. I take 2k mg religiously, for twenty years now. Only time depression returns is if I miss doses during dreary winter days.

The Sun is very intense now. In some countries, it is causing an increase in skin cancer and blinding field sheep and rabbits. In the Mediterranean Sea local fishermen suffer from eye cataracts and blindness. When the sun is too intense , people wear light jackets or long sleeve shirts. Exposing your arms to intense sun light daily, will cause skin cancer over a period of time, depending on its intensity. People think I am strange for wearing a light jacket during the summer. I am ex-military. I have lived in climates that cause skin cancer and blindness. I have learned to make the sun my friend. I always wear good UV sunglasses and sun screen, and long sleeve shirts and light summer jackets.

@@ave649 skin cancer rates have increased since sunscreens, by a lot! Theres strong evidence now that sunscreen might cause cancer, look it up. The common ingriedients in most sunscreens also mess with your hormones when its absorbed, in a man they could potentially lower testosterone levels, where as vit D increases testosterone. Burning is bad though, but we need the sun, were supposed to be in the sun.. you cant get enough vit d without it naturally. Thing is we were once outside all yr, so by the time summer came around you would of built a base tan, you wouldnt of burnt before like people would do now. But in saying that people dont go in the sun like they once did, like in the 70's and 80's where having a tan was a must! i went to German are of Majorca 11 yrs ago, Germans are notoriously known for loving a tan, yet they were all under umbrellas! the two weeks i was there most of them stayed milky white, yet we have much higher cancer rates now! doesnt seem to make sense if way less people are tanning

I went low carb 12 years ago. At the time I had degenerative bone disease in my right foot. I was told nothing could be done, and I would be in a wheelchair by around age 55 or 56. Every step for years was painful and I was on my feet all day.
When I went low carb I started eating butter in massive amounts. The cravings were crazy. Then one day walking down the stairs I realized the pain was gone. The bone disease was gone. It was around that time my butter consumption dropped to more reasonable amounts. I am convinced it was something in the butter which helped. But I was also eating more foods with vitamin K2 in them.

Since being on the extreme end of the cholesterol chart, I researched these effects and found that sustained low cholesterol in an indicator of cancer. I read a book called Supermarket Remedies which informed me about dangers of low cholesterol diet among other things.

    Hi Dr Ekberg,
As a subscribed member I watch every one of your videos that come to my email… and others of yours. What I appreciate most is your ability to convey body chemistry in a way I can understand. I am an 'evidence-based' kind of guy, and you seem to me to have done your research about what you convey. When you have an opinion, you are clear about it (a rare trait on the Internet, I find) which encourages me to trust what I'm watching.
I get that supplements are far from your favourite means to health. Mine neither. However, as a 77 year old, with the limiting abilities that accompany age, I take vitamin B12 (which tests show have brought me back from deficiency), and 2000 IU of vitamin D3. In this video you refer to one study which suggests D supplementation is not effective. You don't mention if it was D3 or D2. And that's the only study you mention as I recall. Have you come across other evidence regarding vitamin D supplements I should check?

Almost all the vitamin D in cod liver oil is destroyed in processing (molecular distillation & winterization) so they fortify it with synthetic vitamin D after processing. Same is true of the natural vitamin A (retinol). Two brands that are highly recommended (and are the only two I trust) are Rosita Extra Virgin CLO & Jigsaw Wild Alaskan CLO. They contain nothing synthetic.
