      I think the mechanism of how Vit D deficiency can cause IR is when we are low Vit D it can cause depression and increase stress.. high cortisol can cause high glucose . High glucose makes insulin high.. And become insulin resistance to diabetic...

    Amazing that is topic has come up! When I was living in France and during summertime I had a blood check-up and my doctor pointed it to me that my vitamin D level was very low almost nonexistent! My dark skin was not absorbing any from the sun,
    As an African born in the tropics, my intake from the European Sun was naturally blocked especially my earlier periods in the Netherlands and Germany I was always depressed and anxious without any explanation.
    After years of taking high vitamin D3 supplements, I started feeling my OLD self again,

All of a sudden everthing is getting better. You have eased my mind. Now I'm so much happier.

    This video spells out why VITAMIN D is critical to our health. About 4 years ago I came across information which indicated that nearly all cells in the body have receptors for VITAMIN D and so last year when my younger brother had Covid-19 in Boston I was very concerned for him. I knew that he was unlikely to have a good reservoir. So I called his doctors and asked him to check my brother's VITAMIN D level. They repeatedly refused to do so through his 7 weeks of hospitalization, going as far as asking his son to take me off the list of people who can inquire about his health.
    Augmentation of his VITAMIN D could have helped. He died without the simplest help.
    Our medical doctors are barely functioning people. Not good enough.

      I'm sorry for your loss. Not sure where you live in the world but here in Australia, testing for Vitamin D is a common add on when you go for a basic blood test. We have a free health system (though we pay a levy each year via our taxes) and, because doctors have been requesting this test as a standard, the government recently commented that they were concerned about "unnecessary tests for Vitamin D". It's always about money!

    I go for a 30 minute walk everyday; sometimes longer. I've been doing that for over 10 years and I haven't been sick or had flu in over 10 years. I think the best time of day to walk for good sunlight is 2pm to 4pm.

      Actually , it's between I0 AM and 2 PM. In the winter the sun is not as bright and much of your body is covered so you will not get the amount you need so you either need to take supplements or get a UV lamp that helps your body produce vitamin D3. I had to purchase one because I live in WA State and I can't take supplements.

I looked for everything to end the winter colds and in 2009 I found VItamin D. I had myself tested and I was 8ng per ml. I started supplementing to 40 ngs or higher... I went 10 years without a head cold in the winter. No sore throat, no stuffy nose, no watery eyes.. no cough. NADA! In 10 years. When before I had colds at least 3xs per winter. This was extremely detailed... thank you. What I find amazing is that this information isn't getting out there. I have been on to Vitamin D since 2009... after seeing a video by Carol Baggerty. A woman who had breast cancer and happy to say she is still alive. I knew immediately this was it. And have supplemented ever since. It is frustrating to me that I can't get others to take Vitamin D. If you are looking for a new video, I might do one on D and cancer. Almost every cancer is pushed back from D.

    I have 2 books about just vitamin D3 and also listen to Dr. Robert Holicks podcasts. They all recommend higher doses of D3. Especially If you are fighting any major illness, you want your D3 levels to be up in the 80’s range to have a fighting chance. In reality there is really no known documented cases of overdosing on D3. If there is it would be extremely rare. I have one book that lists cases of common illnesses that have been overcome by simply increasing vitamin D3 levels even above
    85. This fear of overdosing on D3 is unsubstantiated. The fact that the world population is seriously deficient in this important vitamin/hormone is a good proof of that. I have been taking high doses of D3 myself for years and all i can say is I don’t suffer any illnesses. Also what lot of doctors don’t mention is D3 should be taken along with K2, Magnesium, Zinc. Zinc is necessary for best absorption of many vitamins.

    Correction: it’s incorrect to say that more is not better, at least up to about 60-70 ng/ml. Up to that level more IS better because certain types of cancer prevention require higher D3 levels. For example, breast cancer prevention requires the highest level of D3, around 65 ng/ml. Other types of viruses and cancers are eliminated at lower D3 levels. Over 70ng/ml however, it probably makes little difference.

    I have binge watched 3 years of your videos beginning last month and have been on the keto and IF all of November and Dec MTD.
    I feel great and did OMAD for six days.
    I had no major excess weight. I was nearly 180 lbs when I started keto and I'm now at 168 lbs and stable at what I targeted for. I'm 5'10" and feel this is a nominal weight.
    My main concern is that my urine ketone tests are maxed out at 16 mmole/L
    I'm going to stop the fasting to see if the ketones drop back to a more normal reading.
    I have never been told by my doctor that I had any sign of diabetes. I'm 71 years old.
    Should I worry about the high keytone readings?

    • @An_Average_Arsonist

      The bodies preferred energy source is carbohydrates, ketogenic diets are associated with weight loss as they physically force the body to break down fats for energy, it's good on the short term to limit carbs to lose weight fast, but you should consider adding some carbs back into your diet.
      Most natural carb sources (oats, potatoes, to name some good examples) also come with the added benefit of iron content, in addition to fiber. I eat 450 grams of russet potatoes as hashbrowns with an avocado and 65 grams of carrot every day, with a vitamin d gummy and a 500 mg vitamin c tablet to boost iron retention.
      I also consume 80 grams of rolled oats with a banana and another vitamin c tablet, despite these large carb intakes, I'm stable at my weight of 168, no one aspect of any food should be seen as bad or good, it's the interactions as a whole that matter.
      Carbs _can_ be bad, but so can anything else in the wrong quantity. Consider their benefits, and their downsides.

    • @davideckenroth8394
      @davideckenroth8394 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@An_Average_Arsonist Thanks for the reply.
      Currently I'm doing well to hold my weight between 165 and 170 by increasing my total calories and watching my ketones when my weight runs low and reduce my calorie intake when I go out of ketosis and or my weight runs high. I have maintained OMAD for all of december and January to date and will continue as long as convenient. It's quite easy.
      IF seems to be very effective and allows relaxing restrictions for some carbs on occasion
      I have been purging out the non ideal foods I had in stock which don't seem to perturb my objective.
      I had symptoms of arthritis in my hands and by exercising them as I do a lot of quick walking the symtoms are improving a lot

    Does vitamin K help with absorption of supplements?

    • @drekberg
      @drekberg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Thank You Natalie Ghiggioli. There is a lot of talk about The synergistic effects of Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2. The D3 promotes the production of Vitamin K dependent proteins, so when we take more D3 it seems we would need more K2, and therefore it would seem like a good idea to take the two in combination. However, in my office, when we get really specific with muscle testing, the D3 by itself usually tests better than the D3/K2 combination. It could be that D3 is best initially, and D3/K2 is better long term. I'll keep researching this in my clinic.
