2024 Acura Integra Type S at Thunderhill East - How Much Faster Than BRZ?

- 1st time at Thunderhill East with this car, and 2nd event with the Öhlins/Apex/Kumho setup. My best time with the BRZ (225 Kumhos and camber bolts) was a 2:04.70. With an extra 100hp, can I finally sub-2:00 with the Integra?

Turn 8 at 100 MPH in a largely stock sedan with no aero is great mechanical grip
Love your DE5 content, keep it coming!
Wow! Amazing driving. I’ve watch many of your track videos. I definitely enjoying them. Thank you.
Looks like you're still adjusting to FWD as you're really sliding around the front throwing it into the turns. FWD you ideally want to take the 'aero' type of line knowing you can't readily accelerate while turning. Brake deeper into the corner targeting clipping just past the apex. Get all the turning in early, trail brake or lift off targeting that slightly late apex as right off the brakes is when you should be slowest and asking the least of the tires from accelerating. Clip the late apex and unwind the steering angle, balance the throttle input and steering until you fully unwind the wheel. FWD you really need to follow the slow in, fast out as the only way to get rotation is OFF the throttle unlike a RWD car.
I liked the second race. You are becoming an ambassador for our type s…
Massive props to the driving and roided economy compact sedan (blessed by the Honda engineering gods) for throwing down some impressive speed. Wow. Having said that it just doesn't have the balance or the precise look of the BRZ, with its puny motor and all. Both cars overacheive so much but one feels so much purer going down the track, it's dedicated sports car architecture shows.
Hey Zygrene,
Love the track videos! Could you make a video on how to sign up and setup/prep for a track day, how track insurance works, what to do, and not to do? I have done AutoX before but I've always dreamed of doing a track day. I just get intimidated from the risk and price delta compared to AutoX days. Would like to hear your advice!

I covered this topic a few years ago!

Nice, really enjoy these videos seeing the fwd competing with rwd (as owner of s2000 & Integra type r).
Great driving Fenton, just curious if the speedometer is adjusted for the 18" wheels, otherwise 100 through 8 on v730 is even more impressive!! Leaving the car in a higher gear looks like it helped a lot too, but maybe 3rd is needed for T3.
Excited to see how the car performs with a touch more camber. It really does seem like even with stock power 2:00 is in the cards.
I figured 265/35/18 wouldn't be too different in height vs 265/30/19, but I haven't done the math. 2:00 should be easily doable in its current state.
If the measurements are accurate, the diameter of the new tire is basically identical to stock. An online calculator gave me 0.2 mph difference at an indicated 100
I have the same setup and the speedo is basically dead nutz to stock .
Damn, I own a couple of those cars you easily passed 😅. That car is pretty amazing and so understated, most people on the streets wouldn't even know what it could do or what it even is. Sleeper for sure👍
I was at a track day years ago where a guy had just purchased the (then new) Civic Type R. His car had the exact same fuel cut issue. He was freaking out. Calling the dealer and everything. Swore he had "over a quarter tank in it". I had to make him go fill up.
Duuuude. Turn 8 at 100mph. Wild! shockingly capable car.
Is this a fair comparison? The BRZ is msrp is $32K, while the Type S marp is $50K and that's before any modifications are done to these cars.
How does the type S compare against the m2 or m3? On the track and off the track?
I saw the cars you own right now. Basically classic MR, FR, FF top fun cars. Man I am envious😮
Hey
I've added a tiny bit of rear toe out on my fk8, and it definitely helped with the understeer and lowered my lap times.
Smooth inputs is the name of the game! Lol
Love the content! Love seeing the progress you’re making. Can’t wait to get back out on Watkins Glenn to see what I can put together.
Great driving. Late braking and late apexing are your friends on the FF chassis. Can’t drive this car like a FR! I picked up my R not too long ago and was ecstatic when it drove just like my race prepped 8th Gen si.
Getting faster each track day! Would love to see how this car performs with a downpipe and hondata....100hp+ and torque would be wild to see.
If you caught the 1LE I was gonna buy one tomorrow. Blue. A/S tires.
Re. the RWD debate, for me it's not about whether a FWD can be as fast as a similar p/w ratio RWD car. It's about whether it is as fun. It looks like you had near constant understeer throughout. A little oversteer in some parts on entry under trail-braking, but the majority of the time it was mid-corner understeer and power understeer. I wonder if that'll get boring for you eventually. That's what my mk6 GTI looked like when I tracked it, and it just wasn't fun after a while despite holding its own against RWD and AWD cars.
Yeah I have an IS38 MK7 GLI that would destroy a GR86 in probably everything but a tight track but like you've pointed out, probably less than half as fun.
@@MeltingRubberZ28 Yep. One thing I've learned over 10 years of track driving and decades of being an enthusiast is it's not how fast you go, it's how much fun you have.

Loving the videos man!
14:34 lol because they have cheat code on their 'record' honda civic type r
Crazy good driving. Impressive.
You're getting more proficient at piloting the chassis from my observation but definitely need the WhiteLine Anti-lift kit ASAP
Here for de5 content!
Awesome driving skills!
Amazing content, loving it. Is it a possibility the power cut is because of high oil temp, and not due to fuel level? I've heard others with FL5 have had to do upgrades...oil cooler, rad etc to prevent the power cut.
This is peak level fun. Cant wait to do this someday. Do you think you're close to like half tread on the tires after 4 track days? probably overshooting it, but that's some heavy riding and high speeds!
Now that FL5s are starting to come down to earth (5K over is easy, 2-3 doable, and even MSRP is not impossible) - which would you rather have if you bought now? Are the added niceties in the DE5 worth the $$ and losing the FL5 seats?
I just filmed a stock FL5 vs my DE5 to answer that question! Stay tuned
Msrp is possible but interest rates tho 😢
Car seemed dialled in perfectly. Need to reduce weight (especially in the back) to shave off those fractions.
A pedal cam would be amazing to see you trailbraking and your gas/brake applications for reference. Glad to hear youre having fun with fail will drive jk jk
Nice job catching the BMWs and almost Camaro! Curious, do u listen to the Garmins suggestions?
Yup I try to
he's not going to catch that particular Camaro without a tune and some aero =)
really want to trade in my fk8 for this!!
Great driving. What driving app are you using that's giving you track advice?
I'm pretty sure he's using a Garmin
Man. 60% and fuel cut. That sucks!!! Too bad no nearby gas station to salvage the day
there is a gas station at the track. But most people try to run with less fuel to save on weight.
Wow!
Turbo torque means you can pretty much just drive the whole track in 4th.
Good driving. Car has a bit more in it. I think it’s time to sell my Miata😅
Gravity exists don’t
Noooo
Nein!!!!
You need to be more gentle with the controls and you need to use the whole track.
If this was Forza you get an ! next to your lap time because of how you cut through turn 12 🤣
But we all do it so i guess it doesn’t matter really.
In an Enduro all those cars you chase/pass will win because of fuel cuts, haha.
How much pressure are you running? The 730s have really stiff sidewalls so you can go as low as 24psi cold.
I was aiming for 34 hot, which equated to around 26 cold
Don't seem like you had a lot of experience tracking? A lot of false and sudden steer, your racing line is a little off at some corners, wrong shifts at some corners, and racing with window down - it increased your drag by at least 5-10%. I never spent too long on track either tho, and I also owns an ITS. Cheers!
most California track org requires window down for safety reason. Only time allow window up is during rain or if you rent the track yourself.
@@mcbat8 that is interesting to hear, what is the safety reason?
@@renhaoxue5220 they say it's easier to pull you out in case of fire and you're not conscious.
it doesnt look fun. looks like alot of work compared to the BRZ.
Is that the Garmin Catalyst?
Yup
@Zygrene, are you on 0w-20 oil or 5w-30?
Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W30
@@Zygrene after each track day, do you drain the 5w-30 oil and refill with 0w-20 for daily driving or do you leave it there?
@@bennyang8049 I leave it. It's not a race oil.
What's talking to you?
Sounds like a Garmin Catalyst.
