Keep bringing 'em back! Driven Scouts for 38years. Still have, and occasionally use the '63 Scout 80, the very first one that I owned. Kudos on the '66 transformation--(that 4speed and 196cid are a great combo)--have two of that year that have been to hell and back through deserts, rivers and mountain goat paths--first of the SUV's--tried and proven!
I have to commend you on the the truck not many people can say I did this myself. She is beautiful hope you enjoy her very much and thanks for the great video, keep us all posted
great build. I have a 67 torn down in my garage now. I got lucky...found it in New Mexico (no rust). I'm soda blasting off the old paint and sand blasting the frame. Pulling the 266 V8 and dropping in a GM Performance 350. I'll do the whole project except the upholstery. I hope mine will look as clean as yours.
I took two trailer fenders from Farm & Fleet cut and welded together and welded it into the floor. The backing piece was made from the cut out to keep the lines of the floor. I could not stand covering up the stamped tailgate with the spare
@TheDropOutHAMB Great pick up on the 2002 tail lights that made my day. I ussed to have a roundie but now have a 76 with the less coveted square lights. I wanted a roundie and now I have it. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks alot. I found a paint remover at fleet farm. I don't know where you are from you may find it at Farm & Fleet if you have those chains near you. It comes in a spray can and was in their automotive spray paint department. Spray on let sit a while and the paint just bubbled off. Home Depot also has a really nice sponge like abrasive wheel, its blue and might be called ez strip that goes on an angle grinder and rips off paint but does not effect metal
@TheDropOutHAMB She is resting in the barn waiting for spring, Did not get as many wheeling trips in as I wanted last year but man is it fun to get it out on a hot summer day. recently picked up a 95 Range Rover that may become my wheeler to preserve the hard work. Its tough though because the scout really likes to wheel
@nshighlander11 The roll bar came out a Jeep. The back angle supports go through the body and attach to a new fabricated cross member. If you look in the rear wheel well you can see the roll bar attached. It is not shown in the video though
Wow That looks GREAT! I inherited one from my dad and going to pick it up next month, It need lots of tlc, But the passion is there so I can't wait to get started! Are those rollbars going straight down to the frame? and if so where did you get them? I have been a Scout fan since birth!!!!
the floors rust out so quick, commit to replacing. mine took about 3 years from start to finish. I hooked up with axles out of a scout II dana 44's that a guy had rusting away in his driveway. Have fun, it is easy to hate the project from time to time. Do all that you want to with the thought that less is more. If i could go back I would fabricate something to make the fuel go in better similar to scout II enjoy
it is the 4 cyl 152 engine and stock 4 speed tranny I believe it is the T-19 with the dual sticks transfer case. 488 gears with a Detroit locker in the rear and a Tru-Trac in the front
Its called maledivenblau it is a BMW color from 1993 5 series I did a 1976 BMW 2002 in the same color about 13 years ago I got the paint from Finish Masters PPG store i did my bmw in base coat clear coat but the scout I did in a 1 stage and they match almost perfectly. didn't want to spend so much on paint this time around
The 4cyl came in two versions the 152 and the 196 both being half of their larger brothers the 304 and the 392. the 152 put out a whopping 88hp not sure what the specs on the 196 are

I'm doing one too, was it a pain in the ass to cut the floor out? Is there a lot of lines and other stuff to watch out for when you are cutting?
