  • In this episode I try several ways to free the 304 V8 motor in our 69 Scout 800a Aristocrat. We fill cylinders with oil and acetone, use breaker bars, and a farm jack but we eventually figure it out, in spite of the face full of oil and a mouth full of mouse nest.... Now to get it fired up.....in the next episode. 🤞

There's hope, she'll live yet again! Great idea using the hi-lift to hold pressure on the breaker bar, I'll be filing that one away for future use!

Necessity is the mother of invention…. Or something like that. 😂 With enough time and pressure we’ll get her going soon.

Good job I would remove both oil pan drain plugs and fill the cooling system with water after you replace the freeze plug that fell out to see if it is draining into the crankcase. That is one seriously bent tie rod

Yeah while I was trying to turn it I realized it f forgot the front drain plug. Considering the gunk you can see that slides out of the pan just after the water but before the oil drains I’m considering removing the whole pan to clean it out.
And yes the tie rod looks like it hit a stump. 😂

Tip... get a dedicated solvent bottle (see metal gravity paint cans) and make a hanging strap... attach a 1/4" feed line (clear) and put in a motor cycle 1/4" inline fuel shut off near end of line. NOW you can oil/marvel/solvent... in a CONTROLLED manner, and not guesstisplash into holes... (Also when you dumped the Acetone all over the place... just use the metal funnel you already had... (duh). 🙂

I’m sure that would have worked much better than my method but hopefully I won’t be doing this again anytime soon. Now to get it fired up.

And I thought I was the only old, fat guy crawling under a Scout! I have a 64 model 80... 152 4 cyl requires a lot less leverage to turn it.... enjoyed the post!

Thanks. Life’s gotten a little in the way lately but I’ll get the Aristocrat in the shop soon I hope and see if the motor will fire up. Stay tuned

Comical... respirators in a gallon ziplock bag and then into an ammo can! Learned the hard way (too!!)

Excellent idea. Plus it will keep the dust out. ✅

Got a little sidetracked this summer but I’ve worked this week to get the shop cleaned out and give it a shot

Nice job!! I have managed to save some pretty stuck engines in the past! A mix of Marvel Mystery Oil, ATF , and Sea foam Deep Creep will get it done.

Thanks, Feeling lucky at this point. Little worried there may be a crack with the freeze plug pushed out but we’ll just have to get it going and find out.

My guess on the water and missing freeze plug.
It was flood victim, then went through a winter that froze the water which pop the plug.

That could easily be the case. Hopefully there’s no crack in the block. 🤞

Acetone will dissolve plastic. Better to mix in a glass jar or metal can.

As soon as I get my wife’s traveler put back together I’m gonna pull it into my shop and get after it hard. I will probably go around one more time by hand before I put a battery in it but that is kind of the plan.
