I thought Kieran would of been very happy to beat the player character and he probably won't be friends with him or her again at the end of the story. Kieran would probably also treat the player character like garbage to, like he did to everyone else at the BB academy. That is If you lose to Kieran during his showdown battle I would imagine.
He's supposed to be unlockable at some point.

There's going to be a future sidequest coming out this January and likely would unlock Kieran and Carmine as trainers you can rematch at the League Club.
