    Gold! Great, easy tips not everyone thinks about." I don't want to bite chicken kid". I damn near spit my drink lol.
    I think the big problem with people and dogs that are like this is they fear the process of trying these things or just plain haven't thought of them. Nothing's perfect but starting somewhere, being alert and staying on your toes with a dog like this after watching is way better than never trying. It may not ever be perfect like you said but it will be much better for them and the dog.
    Props to these people for coming to you and hopefully they follow through and get a more balanced /social dog outta the deal.

    I have a same size female ex-streetdog, and she does NOT entertain small children. I am a 100% sure she will nip if she feels like they come into her space. However, I have them feed her treats and throw her ball (which is way better than treats for her) and it has gotten so much better. She has a few kids she likes now. But I am always observing, bc they can not go over her boundaries.

    What I love about prince, he gives dogs the benefit of the doubt…..he realised this guy is not exactly viscous but he’s just not sure about his new surroundings!
    Love the way you put over to the dog parents the necessaries with regards children!!
    Great video Joel!! 😁👍

    You do such a great job. The obliviousness of the dog going around that tree at 02:55 while being on a leash shows me he's in his own world. He's so lucky, cause I would have stood there till he figured out to walk back and follow on my side.

    The no touching is probably one of the hardest things to do in stressful situations. I feel like human nature we want to touch to soothe when in reality it just amps up the dog as you said!

      Yes! I didn’t know that I shouldn’t pet my dog when she’s stressed about a strange dog being around us! Now that I know and know what to do instead, this will help me train her properly to be less reactive & aggressive to other dogs!

    If you ever make another blooper video, this one had some gems. First was at 1:43. "I'm a big fan of the owners going up and petting the person... excuse me, shaking the person's hand. Or petting the person, if you want to pet the person." I laughed so hard at that one.🤣
    And then also 10:40 with, "I don't want to bite chicken kid." Fantastic blooper moments!
    And of course, this was a wonderful and helpful video overall. Don't want to detract from that fact! Thanks, as always.😁

    Please make more content about kid-reactivity, Joel! My dog is kid-reactive even to babies and all I ever hear is "Oh but dogs understand that it's a baby whether it's a puppy or a foal or a human baby, and they'll instinctively know to be gentle and to take care/"protect" the baby", which is zero percent helpful with a dog like mine who is super reactive towards kids and babies no matter the size or circumstances. So I'd LOVE to see more content with that topic from you!

    This is not regarding this video, but I didn't know where else to put my request so I'm adding this to your most recent one. First of all I'm a fan, and following your videos has done wonders for my reactive rescue. My problem is watching your older videos I often have trouble finding "part 2 of 2" when when you split a session and your titles don't match. Perhaps you could add the dogs name, like "part 1 of 2 with Fido" and part "2 of 2 with Fido". It would make locating part two a lot easier. Forgive me if this has already been addressed and I missed it.

    Another great vid! I'm wondering about 2:42 where he went at Prince. What made you interpret that as not bad enough to need a muzzle? I didn't see a lip lick till 2:46. Was it because Prince wasn't afraid and even did a playbow? Not questioning your judgment which was obviously correct! Just trying to understand. With my 2-yr-old street-rescue rednose who was reactive to people, I used your chicken method and it worked wonders! For kids, we used progressively younger kids till now he's fine with babies. For kids on bikes & scooters, same general idea--(your desensitization method)--had them pet him with scooter/bike lying down, then walking scooter/bike, finally coming toward him on scooter/bike while they also sweet talk to him then stop & pet. This was over several months as I would just ask kids in the neighborhood would they help me train him by walking their bike etc. (I used to hv to tell them "Hop off your bike and walk" before he got used to them.) It surprised me how happy the kids in the neighborhood have been to help train him. He's still a bit wary of adults on bikes, but we're moving forward. Thank you for these fantastic vids! ❤🐾🙏🏽

      that wasnt a playbow, it was a jump back. it happened cause prince was in the personal space of the dog.
      my guess is that he needs his owners for security. hes feeling unsafe and is overwhelmped. the only thing he got in his mind in all the outside videos are his owners and how he can get to them. he cant think of another thing. thats why he didnt want any contact with prince, and whenever prince is coming into his space he is going forward with big threatening gestures.
      btw great that u worked on the problems with ur dogs

    It took me 2 months of walking by noise kids in a park and him watching the neighbor kid riding noise skateboards to get over both. The kids came first, then the kids on skateboards/bikes. I don't get within reaching distance, but he just looks without reaction. Adults on bikes?? I don't come across them as much. It's a long road.

    Are there more videos that you have already made or could make about prey driven dogs. We apply your method of correcting negative behavior of running up too fast or being too pushy and just have to get the reps from exposure. When dogs are playing rough or being excitable our dog becomes aggressive and needs to be broken up but stops quickly when corrected. He's just over a year old and we don't know what the first part of his life was like. Right now we are trying to get him with his first dog to play because we haven't seen him play much with other dogs in a constructive way.

    I volunteered at local Animal Control one summer, intended to walk dogs. Didn't work. They had all young big strong dogs, would strain at the leash constantly, almost pulling me off my feet. I've walked dogs before, even unmannerly dogs, visiting friends and relatives -- always volunteered. I've always been able to calm dogs done, get them to stop straining at leash, and if I had a week could begin to teach heel, come, sit.
    These Animal Control dogs ... I had no luck. The staff told me they end up euthanizing most dogs like this, no one wants them for good reason. They've been raised without any discipline.
    Spent the rest of the summer socializing cats.
    So sad. Could you give me any ideas?

    PLEASE HELP! I'm having a problem and was hoping I could get some advice. Yesterday, we drove nine hours to pick up a Rottweiler pup in PA. We currently have a 10 yr old sheperard mix who as easy going as they come. However, we also have a seven yr old Rottweiler mix whos a very strong Alpha and doesn't, never has, liked other dogs. Now we have a 10 week old pup who was nipped twice and the ALPHA is always hovering over him looking like he's gonna strike again. I'm constantly telling him to be nice, knock it off, NO, leave him alone and has become a very, very stressful situation. Is a day to soon for results? Will this behavior ever end? Will I need to find the pup another home? Always had dogs my entire life and never have I had to deal with something like this.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

      A day is way to soon, do a slower introduction. Nip training a pup, if they nip immediate what the other pups would do, squeal

      Honestly, I get scared when I hear that. I think the puppy is not safe. How is that supposed to work when no one is around?
      We had gotten our cat used to a new dog, it was a German shepherd. That took 6 weeks!!! In the beginning we had to lock them away when we weren't in the house. Bad for the cat. I don't think there is such a thing as puppy protection in dogs, but defending a lot of resources as toys, places, food, water or to be Mommy's darling, It would be just too dangerous for me in your constellation. Sorry, no advice.

    • @persistentunderstory4824
      @persistentunderstory4824 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a slow process. Give your alpha time to be away from the puppy and make sure he has one on one time with you. Make sure he gets the "respect of his position" (getting to go first to get resources when appropriate) but also very clear boundaries from you when they're together. It could be helpful to go back and check out how Jason Corey introduced his corso puppy to his older corso over time since there may be some helpful overlap with another guardian breed in his content? You know your alpha dog. Listen to what your gut is telling you about the puppy's safety as you go forward.

    • @KRDP
      @KRDP ปีที่แล้ว

      you gotta understand that only time'll dictate and reveal the outcome , i would personally see if alpha approves of the new puppy if alpha dont accept the new puppy then rehome the puppy to somebody in your ohana or a neighboor some body

    The risk is just too big with a kid reactive dog. Gosh forbid one comes running up out of nowhere in public and the dog nips them. This dog seems perfectly happy to be at home with his family not out dodging kids and other dogs. Just accept that reality.

      Could be any number of things obviously. My first thought was some sort of chow/shepherd mix. As long as they can handle it and control the situations and know its mannerisms hopefully it all gets better. Trying day in and day out is most the battle. There are far worse owners glad to see them try.

    While I understand working with a dog like this, I don't get at all the we want to go to restaurants with the dog or dog parks. Maybe it's because I live on the east coast in suburbia and no one of the west coast has a yard. Yes, work to get your dog better, but if he can't come with you, so what? Is okay.
    And a dog that goes at children? I wouldn't encourage taking that dog out any where kids will be. He doesn't even have to bite hard. He's dead. They lose anything they own, house, cars, etc. That's not a dog to take out to restaurants.
