I'm new a dog owner and I swear, I'm the one that needs the training more than the dog. Thank you to all your clients that let us learn with them.

Me too, learning every day. We are in control of how our dogs react and it is definitely up to us to teach them these good behaviors. You got this! Keep watching, learning and stay in control. Baby steps and repetition every day and you will have an amazing dog!❤

In no way are you alone, every person that has a pet needs to go through training. This is behavioral training that you see, in the form of mechanics or actions. Joel teaches us how to use the tools to become effective in our communications and communicating our expectations. He's teaching us how to use them and when, to build our relationship foundation with our pets. Your observation is excellent and what I love about this video is we get to see a novice - or, any one of us - learn to use the tools.

This is again sooooo helpful!"!! I live in Peru and there is a lot of street dogs, they normally are pretty chill and don't want any trouble but I must remember to stay relaxed as you explain here and I just walk past them, keep going my way. Street dogs are often more polite than some crazy dogs on leash with their owners.

Joel has always said “dogs learn best from other dogs.” Street dogs are a shining example of that! They learn how to greet and interact with other random strays without any humans correcting them.
We humans protect our dogs from those important life experiences so they never learn.

Living in nyc your methods helps when meeting other dog owners that say there dog is so so and I tell them “no tension on the leash “ and “correct if they nip or try jumping on my dog” 90% of the time the meeting ends great and the owners are like thanks for the advice. I adopted my dog 9 months ago and your methods along with a few other dog Trainers I follow have helped build my dog’s confidence and obedience when meeting dogs. We’ve had dogs bark at us on meets and she doesn’t even flinch or respond out of aggression. I’ve even applied your door method to when crossing the street. I basically pretend we’re crossing and stop to make sure she’s with me. I get funny looks every time do it but I don’t care. P.s I recommend ur channel to every owner I meet 🤘🏼

The teaching the owner is so refreshing because it feels like we all make mistakes and can't always see them for ourselves or we make mistakes you don't always comment on when we watch you do your own method just because you are so practiced at it and we aren't. Great job by this owner! I keep forgetting my own training when I walk my dog and see another person walking their dog on a small sidewalk and we both end up with pulling dogs so these video help so much getting me to realize things like that.

This is so helpful - I adopted a 6yo lab mix about 3weeks ago, and I’ve been watching your videos to learn techniques, both for me and for new dog. He didn’t seem to have a lot of leash walking experience, and does the lunging barking at other dogs, and sometimes people. Huge part is for ME to learn what’s acceptable and how o correct. Recently we’ve been seeing a neighbor walking her 8mo labradoodle, and she’s also trying to train her pup. I plan to share this video, and the age appropriate behavior video with her - and would love for our dogs to become friends. I ordered a gentle leader (arrives Monday). Your videos are such valuable tools, so glad I stumbled across them.

I agree with the videos involving the owners. We need to learn as we lead our dogs and it is so important to me to see these videos. I never know what new dog or person we may see every day on my walks. Today I had a dog off leash rush my dog and get right in his face. He came out of no where and I stayed calm as I could and tried keeping the two apart. No fight, just fear as the other one came out of no where. Owner came out and grabbed his dog but I sure as hell didn’t like that but need to learn other ways on handling this in the future to ensure we are both protected. Thankfully no one was hurt.

If you wait till you get to 1005 that's when things happen that you don't want to happen. Always loose leash and 180 degree turns until the dog is on your page to actually meet the other dog on a loose leash.

Man, ever since I found your channel I've been watching your videos over and over. You're legit and real with your clients and your subscribers and tell us what needs to be said and how to handle stuff the way it should be.
Please put out another video if possible on handling a high energy pittie puppy during walks, loose leash walking them ( my puppy goes where he pleases and I've gotta keep correcting him to stay on track, he's 4.5months btw) and heel walking.

Hi in another one of his videos he said that puppies have trouble learning the loose leash concept until around 9 months so just be patient and love on ur pupoy have fun and teach him what you can. I totally know the feeling of trying to do corrections with a lil pibble cuz mine would fly thru the aur and then just shake it off and figure he'd just happily sniff from wherever he was lol. Now he's 8-9 months and he's starting to understand. 🐾❤️

Dude super wholesome video, I think before popping the leash when the dog pulls you should ask the dog to "come" or "heel" would also be good for working on recall especially in those situations when the dog is stimulated. Killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Love the content man

This came at a great time, I've been using your methods with my dog reactive gsd and I've seen great decrease in her reactivity. Now I want to get to the point where I can start introducing her to other dogs again. Problem is I dont have people that I can introduce their dog to mine.

These are great videos. I need to find a trainer in Indianpolis so we can do the same desensitization for my 8 month old mini ausi. He does great on leash training but goes nuts when other dogs approach. Let me know if you have any suggestions

I live in Indy. We took our dog to First Friend K9 in Noblesville. They are great, or they were 12 years ago anyway! I’m hoping to use these videos with my 9 month old golden retriever instead of the in person training.

Love your channel so much! I have learned a ton watching these videos. What would you recommend for a dog that is more shy and sometimes fearful when meeting other dogs?

I no longer call myself a dog trainer. I would rather think of myself as an instructor for humans and canines. with decades of experience. I watch a lot of dog training videos on youtube. There are so many out there, that it makes my head spin. Everyone has a bag of techniques that work well in different situations. Sadly most only have a very small database to draw from.
You have a great deal of hands-on experience working with different species of animals. You know how to get inside of a dog's head. You know what makes a good leader and trainer. YOu have the confidence to stand up call Sh**, for what it really is your delivery isn't offensive to the snowflakes.
Most people just want to have well-behaved dogs. They turn to dog trainers and trust that the trainer knows what they are doing. Sadly those who call themselves trainers have little understanding of the true nature/genetics and psychology of dogs. They resist using training tools, or they have no idea when and how to properly use the training tools. Teaching a dog to sit-lie, stay and do some tricks does not make someone a dog trainer.
I have the deepest respect for you. I have tweaked some of my techniques after watching your videos and it made me a better instructor for my human and canine clients. As I have said in other comments on your videos, if you ever make it to the Big Island of Hawaii, I would be so very honored to meet you. Lunch or dinner is on me.

Our foster pitbull would be foaming at the mouth 5 seconds after the first dog walks out. No joke.

Love love your channel! Only found you a few weeks ago but am dedicated and not a second too soon! I have a residential dog daycare and boarding biz and therefore a ton of turnover. I do have successes methods for meet n greets however still have problems at the gate/ double door system. Seems that at least one of my dogs is fence/gate reactive. Since a barrier is part of your method can you please address this issue for those that have drama with the meeting through a structure situation? Ferocious barking dogs at the entrance looks bad even if it is just location dependent. Thanks Sssooo much and give Prince a kiss for me!
