      This thread is a classic example of with great power comes great responsibility. Big dogs require a big dog owner, they aren’t tonka trucks folks, there to entertain big kids. They require a strong minded and responsible Alpha owner to MAKE THEM good pets & more importantly, good dogs.

    • @fredo3161
      @fredo3161 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Wait until a "scary" pit attacks you and your dogs or your child. There's a good reason to be scared. I'm fearful of them because a pit attack lead to me euthanizing two dogs on the same day at the same time after hours of agony waiting to be seen at the pet ER. Of course they are scary. They are the biggest offenders and for some reason have the largest group of defenders out there. I find it purely naive and dangerous thinking to look at a pit and not respect the power it has. I don't care how sweet or cute it looks - I'm packing if I know they'll around.

    • @fredo3161
      @fredo3161 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      And that's the problem - pits are strong dogs and they are pushed onto people from shelters and advocacy groups no matter the abilities of the potential owner. Everytime I see someone walking a pit I wonder if they know how to dominate their dog and incapacitate it in case it attacks. In my case, the owner didn't know but my neighbor did. Didn't save my dogs though.

      That is the only reason I didn't walk them when I volunteered at my local shelter. I wasn't ever scared of them but I am pretty slight so if they get distracted and decide to go I am not going to be able to stop them. Kind of funny actually, I can keep other much larger dogs under control but even a small pitbull can drag me pretty easily. But other than that I actually did pretty well around the pitbulls at the shelter, I often would sit and just talk to the ones that were considered aggressive and help calm them down. Fortunately the shelter I volunteered at was a no kill and all the pitts and other more aggressive dogs went to a rescue in Oklahoma where they rehabilitated and rehomed them or they stayed at the rescue if they couldn't be rehomed for various reasons.

    Considering your son is a novice cameraman, he did really good. All you needed was an initial explanation that he was doing your filming and he was new and no apologies. We don't get better unless we do something. And the more we do, the better we get. Props to your son.
    Also, to the dog thing, it was entirely cute watching Prince and this girl Matcha get along so amazingly. Yes, is it fun watching Prince beat down another dog? Yes. But seeing you two work with dogs and help them is what people want to see. The 'action' brings them in, the real work is what keeps people interested.

He lost trust in his husky at some point and stopped socializing him with any dogs other than his brother's and they haven't seen one another in years now. Hearing Joel call it "best friend stuff" made me unexpectedly sad for my pup.

      Just keep socialising him. Even if another dog goes for him, bring him back to teach him that getting sat down isn't the end of the world and that not all dogs are like that. Owners that never socialise their dog again because some other dog in a bad mood had a go are doing their dog a disservice.

    I'm so happy you're no nonsense with everyone, the dogs, the owners, even the comments here on TH-cam. I'm so happy to see you're being strict and setting up boundries with the animals. I grew up in a rescue center for dogs and cats and all types of animals, and I get super annoyed when I see owners being so lenient with their dogs, letting them be rude. The intention isn't to hurt the dogs, its just speaking to them in a way they actually understand. I can't believe people complain about the muzzle too. What're they expecting "No, I'll just let my own dog that I use to help other peoples dogs get mauled because the little doggie doesn't like the muzzle that stops them sinking their teeth into Prince".
    Fair play man, love your stuff ^_^

Owner came out and held the dogs I’m guessing they were scared of them getting off tie out. My perked up and I did the knee bump correction amd it got their attention and looked right at me and never barked and we walked on well behaved and not one lunge or bark. I was so proud of him and myself this technique worked. Thank you!

    I have found in my work with dogs(rescue work) that an easy trigger can be the other dog being unstable, or the owner not taking charge and leaving the dog to take the lead. At that point, the dog feels it must protect the owner which can lead to all kinds of aggressive behaviors with the owner and on the property. Removing a dog to a neutral zone without the owner usually uncovers this I have had several dogs come in with very aggressive behavior that took just a couple weeks to correct. Great video. Blessings

    Love to see the follow-up...gives people real hope for their own dogs that might have issues.

    It's important to show more of this. People need to see how best friend play looks like. And also that it's important to supervise even best friend play. Cause like the humping there can always be something that needs to be corrected. Love your channel. Subscribed!

    I think your son did a great job!
    I like both kinds of videos, the aggressive / difficult dogs and the easy dogs. I can pick up more subtle behavioral cues the more I watch a variety of interactions.
    Thank you for all you do!

    I love this…. It’s so great to see dogs that feel safe enough to just be their goofy selves! Our Dobbies do the same thing!!! Aw, I love Prince!

    Yesssss more please! People need to see success stories to believe it’s possible to work with ‘aggressive’ dogs 👏🏼👏🏼

    Really informative video but also wholesome at the same time. A nice change of pace from all the more dramatic dogs.

    As 5 years of being a dog daycare worker and now getting hired as a trainer apprentice you have taught me more than all of the past experience i’ve had with dogs, the play on this video was so extremely helpful with helping me understand body language so thank you

    Most other videos I've watched have a lot of gradual progression. With this one, a switch was flipped as soon as you gave her the treat at the beginning.
    Please keep posting more like this!

    Love Prince's move where he slides in on the left side of his face, neck and tucks his front leg under. He is obviously not thinking she might get nasty.

    I'd be happy to even just see a compilation of your success stories, and an explanation of why those little moments worked so well. Knowing what good things look like is fun too! Get you some good free sample music and compile some cute footage. This was a great video, its nice to see how sweet she was with him, and what it looks like when a dog is genuinely excited to meet a friend!

    Prince as usual is a king among dogs. Also I think Prince was definitely hearing some good disco or Marvin Gaye tunes in his head when he started being pals with this pit lass!

    Love seeing both kinds of videos. I learn a lot from the videos where things don’t go this smoothly, but I also learn from videos like these. Either way, my learning so much is largely b/c you’re so good at pointing things out & explaining. Thank you!

    I don't know how much of a success this is. It's pretty obvious that was love at first sight 😂
    On a more serious note, it's definitely great for that pit bull to have this kind of reference and memory for future encounters with other dogs.

    I watched this a while back (now new fon/account) and seeing it again love it even more! It's great to see success stories! It's not totally simple cuz u were concerned enough to use the muzzle. Beautiful descriptions of body language. My 9-yr-old street-rescue pit & 1-yr-old street-rescue pit did the "best friends" move their first day together (& pretty much every day since lol) and it makes me so happy! Thanks for the teaching🐾❤️
