Welcome back to another edition of "wow this Canadian television show was really weird". Today, we take a trip down memory lane...back to a time where pranks were fun and wholesome. I'm not saying he shouldn't use them, but you can't tell me "Bruh" isn't the most overused sound effect since 2018. :P

I don't hate the sound effects Kurtis uses, I just found it funny he complained about overused sound effects but employs some of the most overused contemporary sounds. I don't know if he realized the hypocrisy in what he said, but it was funny to me.

(Sidenote, I actually knew one of the "victims" in an episode. Her name was Holly and I think the episode had something to do with ice-cream)

Apparently Scotty was pretty great, there was a lot of paperwork that her parents actually signed *before* the prank without telling her (obviously). We actually watched the episode in class after it was released

I called this era of wholesome pranks as the Just for Laughs era. The victim is always supposed to either be concerned for someone who got hurt, or just confused. Makes for good waiting room TV too as all the jokes were visual.
I feel like the pranks from "back in the day" are just pranks that appeal to kids. And those are the best pranks because kids don't know shit about nihilism and like abusing homeless people for fun

I've watched a few episodes of the UK and US versions, both good, but AUS was definitely my favourite, plus they definitely had a higher budget, though it did come out a fair bit later (I think mid to late 00's)
Not only was there an Australian version, there was a UK version too. The PPCU is so complex.
In the UK version the host kept on telling the kids to definitely hang up after the phone call to whoever's being pranked.

There was a version of this show too on CBBC with legendary icon Barney Harwood (Blue Peter, Bear Behaving Badly) presenting it too! Then they stopped making & airing it, Barney let his career sort of take a backseat then a few years later Just Kidding would start airing (although I think it's actually Canadian - as in they didn't remake a UK version of Just Kidding)

this was an australian show as well and it was the best thing ever
For those unaware, the Australian and Canadian national broadcasters had a licensing agreement to air each other's programs on their youth channels. This was supposed to try to stem the flow of British and American television. Anyway, this means that ABC3 (the Australian kids channel) had a stack of weird Canadian TV on it, and there were often Canadian and Australian editions of the same show.
The Australian Prank Patrol was hosted by a guy called Scott Tweedie who also hosted the main ABC3 channel and they were filming the series whilst I was in primary school. Prank Patrol was such a phenomenon in Australia that if you appeared on it you were instantly elevated to God status around the country. I went to school with a girl who'd appeared on it and she was stopped in the street and treated like a real celebrity. From these clips, it appears the Australian version was a little higher-budget (read: better).

As an Australian, i remember going to my nan and pops farm, where the tv would stop playing kid shows past 10pm, and you'd have to wait until 6 am the next day. This was one of my favourite shows to watch while i was there, brings back memories lol
So fun fact, there's an Australian version of this show (same theme song, logo, van and premise, just different host) which I grew up on, but the first time I ever saw it they had this fake, very realistic skeleton and I was mildly traumatised for like two years
