Have used Maysan extra hot (purple one) on my homemade chips for YEARS and was very impressed with it until I found how to make the paste myself from a video from Khan Vong about 5 years ago and now I use an amalgamated recipe between your and his to make a curry paste that beats anything I could ever have bought from the shelf... great work guys 👍

Ive been using both the goldfish and this one for some time now, i don't follow the instructions on the packet, i fry off the onions mushrooms and chicken then add the paste direct to the wok, the heat melts the paste very quickly and the aroma is strong, ill then add boiling water until the desired thickness is achieved, not sure if frying the paste will aid in releasing more flavor but its always been very close to our local takeaways (midlands), unfortunately i eyeball the amount of paste i use so couldn't say what my ratios are but its very nice all the same, great review guys, Happy Eating

The company is based up near where I live in Newcastle. You can find their products in many local shops in the Northeast of England, particularly butchers. It's fairly popular up here. Funny you should say it tastes like Chip Shop curry because a lot of local Chip Shops use it. I stopped buying it because, as you both say, it's a bit bland. I now use Yeungs Chinese Curry Mix (Morrisons stock it).
However, Maysan also make a gravy paste (also used in Chip Shops up here) and I use that all the time. It's much nicer than the gravy granules sold in supermarkets.

Next time i will double it up and i reckon it will be spot on, maybe a bit salty for some but i love salty foods and poured over some chips it would be amazing.

Haven't tried Maysan curry paste but I can see that a lot of folks know about curry sauces and have their favorites. It isn't that time consuming to make your own so if you have the time you can go that way. I am surprised at the quality of pre-made Chinese and Thai sauces by and large. I have a refridge shelf loaded with many and would love to see a video addressing the question of the more useful sauces. Probably a few videos would be needed to cover the regional cuisines. I think your Mom is cute! Reminds me of mine.

S&B is Japanese style curry, but I agree it's excellent! The key is to have a lot of finely sliced onions sweated off, and then boiled in the water until they are basically collapsing, that really gives it the right consistency that you get in Japan.

My only criteria was if I had chicken, peas, onion .. what would I use as a quick "oriental" curry (vs Indian subcontinent or Thai style).
Aside: Is "oriental" racist nowadays?? ... dear me. It means "from the East" from the Latin ... it's a modern world where that's an insult. Sigh. As Chin said, my usage of oriental is certainly without malice and to be frank I'm saddened that either the world is getting more racist or people are seeking to virtual signal and see racism where none exists.

@@andyPeyret S&B is absolutely Japanese, it's very much the household choice in Japan, yes there are other companies and everyone has their on preference but for home cooked "Kare Risu" S&B is pretty much bang on what you'll have in Japan. Method of cooking is particular as are the added ingredients but for me it's great. I had it last night with peas carrots and tofu.

yeah, I liked it, but Iike I say was more of a lower end taste, for all I know it might be a chip shop sauce, if so they made an amazing on, but for a chinese takeaway on it wasn't great

@@ChinChooReviews Of course not. It's leftist twats who want to control what we think and say by controlling the words we are allowed to use. It's very reminiscent of Newspeak in 1984. Sorry to get all political but this really annoys me. In Hong Kong, I was often called a Gwailo - a 'ghost man' or 'foreign devil'. I didn't care. I called myself a gwailo. All my western friends called themselves gwailo. Words only have power if you allow them to.
