I actually have goosebumps. I've "played" self taught guitar for close to 20 years on and off. I was always a rhythm player because I just couldn't comprehend the traditional musical education, but this taught me so much in 7 minutes and I'm excited to try it and continue my actual education in learning how to play this damn thing

I am 64 years old and I used to play lead guitar in many bands but I never learned the pentatonic scales! My next door neighbor told me about the pentatonic scales when I was 16 but he did not tell me what it meant!! You are the first person out of all the videos I have watched on how to play the pentatonic scale that allowed me to see what is being played. They would go fast and play it and not show how!! Thank you very much for being the first person in my life to show me in a way I could really see what is played. I became a really good lead player but memorized different Hendrix licks and basically played box style leads!! I always felt handicapped though when I would hear other guitarists play the scales and sound so good. My playing took longer to make it sound really good because of lacking the pentatonic scale. At 64 I can still play fast clean leads but now a whole new spectrum can be implemented!! Thanks again!! If any one wants to see me play my TH-cam video is keebonk’s shower curtain jam. I titled it that because I recorded the video in my bathroom. Only place I could be alone to do it!!

Just discovered this channel and am so glad I did. I've read or watched so many lessons over the years on all the basic music theory for guitar concepts, but always struggled with some and struggled to put it together. Somehow the way this guy explains it just makes sense. I got more from the handful of lessons here than I got from dozens of others. Really excellent. Natural teacher, well thought out and well produced.

Here we go again! I spent an hour last night watching a ton of videos trying to learn about key and what it all means. I came out of it mostly more confused and definitely more frustrated. In walks Scott and 3 minutes and 30 seconds into a video on the pentatonic scale the lights pop on and I finally get something about keys that never clicked before. Of course, the pentatonic scale also makes way more sense and feels much more practical now, too! I've now watched two of Scott's videos and in a matter of minutes have learned more than hours and hours of other guitar videos and books. Thanks Scott! Can't wait to watch the next one! Let me add: the split camera views, text, and graphics are a HUGE help for me, being a visual learner and beginner. It's obvious you know something about learning styles, given that you are crushing verbal, written, and visualized in one simple video. I know that can't be easy or fast to do but I'm so grateful you have been able to do it so far. Thanks!
Oh My! i knew this pentatonic and were practicing it for 2 month from the first day i bought my PRS. But i did not know how to use it. Yesterday i was watching this video and thinking about a little jam session in G major. And today i tried it... My wife was stunned and shocked that i could play a bluesy melodies after only 2 month of guitar playing! Thank you! now i can feel like a guitarist! Sorry for my English. Hugs from Russia!

I've been picking these chords for years but it never sounded right when I would strum in a chord. Bingo Scott, you just showed me what I had misunderstood. I didn't realize the 1st finger was a Minor Chord indicator, and the 4th a Major. Sweet, and I was able to play along with you in all the different keys at the end. You have made my day. This is literally as simple as you can make it. You made it so crazy simple and it's crazy how hard it can be for many youtubers to "simplify" things to this easy of an instruction. It's quite literally 1. If you wanna play an Aminor scale start with your pointer finger at the a key 2. If you wanna play an A major start with your pinky at the A key. After that all you have to do is learn the scales and how they move around on the fretboard. Insane.
I am a mostly a self taught musician and felt like I was hitting a wall with guitar playing and expanding. Thank you for opening the other possibilities and getting me excited to play again!

I've been a guitar player since 7 and my first guitar teacher was sick and old British guy teaching me judar priest, led Zeppelin, tommy Emmanuel, and ever since he retired I've just winged it not knowing what I am doing. I have to post. I’ve been self teaching guitar for ages. Back in my teens during nu metal. And just picked it up again last year. Always played off tabs. This video, in 7 minutes, made more sense to me about scales than I’ve ever seen. I understand it now. Thank you for this.

From a 60yo female campfire Strummer, I'm just getting started on lead, my fingers are slow so I'm still working on getting a bit faster. What I like about this video is its set at a great pace, and very little vibrato and string bending to distract from the actual point of the lesson. Bravo.
Gotta say, this tutorial is amazingly easy to follow and understand. The visualisation is great in helping to learn and put things into context. I've come from another tutorial which was head scratching but this is much simpler to understand the basics.
For Major Pentatonic: Pinky finger and for Minor - Index Finger on ROOT note. Now I am one step closer to play solo on entire Fretboard .Thanks for making my learning process easy.

I've been picking these chords for years but it never sounded right when I would strum in a chord. Bingo Scott, you just showed me what I had misunderstood. I didn't realize the 1st finger was a Minor Chord indicator, and the 4th a Major. Sweet, and I was able to play along with you in all the different keys at the end. You have made my day. This is literally as simple as you can make it. You made it so crazy simple and it's crazy how hard it can be for many youtubers to "simplify" things to this easy of an instruction. It's quite literally 1. If you wanna play an Aminor scale start with your pointer finger at the a key
2. If you wanna play an A major start with your pinky at the A key.
After that all you have to do is learn the scales and how they move around on the fretboard.
Insane.
I am a mostly a self taught musician and felt like I was hitting a wall with guitar playing and expanding. Thank you for opening the other possibilities and getting me excited to play again!

I've been a guitar player since 7 and my first guitar teacher was sick and old British guy teaching me judar priest, led Zeppelin, tommy Emmanuel, and ever since he retired I've just winged it not knowing what I am doing. I have never found any guitar teachers who can teach the stuff so quickly and understandable so it just translates to my guitar brain right away. I will definitely be going through your channel

What I like about this video is its set at a great pace, and very little vibrato and string bending to distract from the actual point of the lesson. Bravo.
Gotta say, this tutorial is amazingly easy to follow and understand. The visualisation is great in helping to learn and put things into context. I've come from another tutorial which was head scratching but this is much simpler to understand the basics.
