This is Part One of my series on How to Solo on Guitar.
We start with how to make phrases: the foundation of a good guitar solo. Interesting phrases tend to have something quirky going on.
Then we move on to how to arrange phrases in sets - like ABAC - and how easy it is to create a lot of material from just one phrase.
From there we talk about how to morph an A phrase into a B phrase - by using a list of concepts - CHANGE, ADD, SUBTRACT, FLIP, RELOCATE
Then we talk about two ways to practice - one way is to commit to a set - like ABAC or AABC for example - and try to come up with a new A phrase every time.
Then we talk about the concept of EXPLORE - MORPH - RESET

There are a million videos on how to play the pentatonic scale, and then everybody just says, "so noodle around with that and find what sounds good." I have literally NEVER seen another video that takes "noodling" and turns it into a productive, practicable way to learn how to solo melodically. There is so much info here that other guitar teachers either just don't know, or don't know how to teach. Your videos are GREAT. Please keep it up!

To anyone who has came here to learn solo guitar, I’d suggest you start from his very first video, learn the pentatonic scale and build you way up to here. Couple weeks ago I started watching this channel and in days I was soloing. My gratitude is unmeasurable to Scott. When I played my first solo accompanied by his backing track, I was literally emotional, because it’s something I’ve been trying to learn since I started playing the guitar. I now can find a random backing track, or any song, for that matter, and quite efficiently solo along. So my advice go back and start from the beginning because it will make much more sense from the start. Also give it your most effort, how quick you master it depends on how much effort you’re willing to put into it. Put aside a couple hours a day until you master it. You’ll figure it out, best of luck!

When we see those guys online demoing a guitar or amp or effect - they sell the product by playing with excellent phrasing. We automatically believe we'll sound like them if we have that product, but we often miss the fact that, their phrasing is selling the product. From what I've observed, if the phrasing is good, the tone and the amp and the guitar don't matter so much. The real guitar magic is great phrasing.

You're helping me so much on getting out of a phase of confusion (which is scales & solos) as a guitar learner and I can say that your videos make it so easy for me to understand and connect things that I couldn't understand before. I just picked up my guitar and tried to jam and it definitely sounds much better than other times I was trying to make it up randomly, but now it feels so pleasant for my ears, not all times, but it's about practice, that's how the master becomes master, practicing. Thanks so much!

You're the man. I've been watching your videos the past couple days and it has done more to explain theory than I have ever understood all together. You are extremely good at phrasing your words and giving clear explanations. Your overlays and editing are the best I've ever seen anywhere. It should be the standard. I'm fully on board my friend. You're my guitar teacher now. Thank you for all you do.

It's amazing how you break down the language of music into something that can be understood by a layman, with little to even no knowledge of guitar whatsoever. Thanks for this, keep up the good work, cheers!

I think this is my first time commenting on a TH-cam video. Man! can't believe how you just explained this! You took a complex idea and simplified it to the maximum without compromising its content and practicality. Thank you.
