Not kidding, this is my favorite comment I’ve ever gotten. I LOVE Wendigoon, and this to be compared to Wendi is an honor I’m not ready for

@@kevinnickens hey Kevin! You taught me something I’ve been trying to understand for years man wow… how do I contact you for some lessons man I’m serious!
A short time to learn. A life time to master. The pentatonic scale was so confusing for so long. This hit the points that took so much time to piece together separately.
Thanks man!
Wow, great break down my friend. I will most definitely subscribe to your channel. Thank you.
Great lesson, bloody useful thanks
clear, concise so helpful. absolutely love your videos.
Awesome, thank you!
As a person with a piano background this explanation finally put sense to me hearing of root notes and what Pentatonic is exactly... And how to use it. Thanks man, really appreciate this video things are finally starting to make sense after 8 months now from me picking up my strat😊
I love your teaching style, dude. So many guitar “teachers” assume we already know these concepts and blow right through them. Thank you’
This by far is the best explanation of the pentatonic scale I have ever seen , my friend, you are a great music teacher of scale, keep rocking on.
Most helpful guitar video I’ve ever watched thanks for motivating me to pick up the guitar and practice again
I have fr yet to find a guitar video where i fully understand whats being said, until I found this video and channel, thank goodness! Clear explanation, thanks man!
hands down best guitar teacher
Best one ever on scales thanks
Thanks!
Without a doubt this is the best explanation
Finally! Some practical use for scales! Bravo, Kevin! Now a question: Do you have tab versions of either guitar riffs or complete songs using the minor pentatonic scales? I didn't see the links above for the videos you mention, so I'd appreciate any direction to where I can find things on your channel. Again, though, I find your videos refreshing and more useful than most others, so thanks for that!
Best explanation I've ever heard!
Thanks!
This is the best video explanation I’ve come across! I was so confused about the pentatonic/major/minor terminology and this finally gave me the bigger picture. I’ll definitely watch your video on the major pentatonic scale. Thanks!
I love learning music theory. Thank you!
Wow, I'm just a beginner in guitar and I just saw your video and opened my mind in away to see the music notes and make me understand a little bit more. Thank you
Great explanation with outstading quality! Thank you!
I was a million miles away from understanding you . Now about a Thousand!😁👍. Thank you . I’ll keep repeating your lessons
OMG I just happened to find your channel yesterday and it saves me.
You're brilliant in noticing the problem that we have (that I can't even point it out coz I don't understand) and explain it so well!
Awesome clearly understood video. Can’t wait to get home and play around with it and Layla pentatonic scale
Excellent explanation. Thank you. 🙏
Thanks! Glad you got value out of it!
BABE BABE!! WAKE UP!! A NEW KEVIN NICKENS VIDEO JUST DROPPED!!
😊,very helpfull and informative ,well presented easy to follow, definatlely will get me into the scales ,and learn tunes and improvise ,thanks again ,mick
that was so easy, thank you, finally
Master, thank for your easy explanation about pentatonic scale, now i know how it work now i put into practice
Thanks so much! I just started learning this 2 days ago and this is so helpful. Really helped me connect some of the dots
Excellent lesson ,Thanks for sharing brilliantly explained
Thank you oh mighty guitar lord
Two tasty riffs … Layla @ 7:00 & Miss You @ 7:34! Nice! Thanks!
Very good lesson. It could be better if you explain why using Minor as beginning step (instead of Major - even though Major has more share). To my limited knowledge: 1- The Root note takes pointing finger and it's the beginning of the set. 2- The shape is simple that 1 hand position can cover all notes by fingers. (I can't remember any shapes minor or maj. After practice it's all gone.) 3- No need to get into Horizontal shifting. 4- The charactor of Minor sound, as you wisely defined - (humble?) is suitable for Soloing. BTW, Rolling Stone? Just 1 song - SATISFACTION!
this is actually amazing
I was blown away by the fact that you can just go to the next pentatonic minor note by just sliding 2 steps with same positions
u r a phenomenal teacher plz make an online course
could you do video expaining about positions because dont really get them why the minro pentatonic has so many positions if you can use this position all across the fretboard
Yes!
looking forwards to it!@@kevinnickens
Super useful vid!!!! thanks
Have you made any videos for Major Pentatonic scale?
Thanks
Nicely explained ❤
Sir excellent sir
You are the best ❤❤
Thank you for the video. I'm sorry being a complete amateur,. But can you explain how the notes work in pentatonics for songs in the key of F major for instance, like Beatles come together or Gary Moore still got the blues.
Is it F G A C D the same way?
Thank you so much this was very helpful

after years of bluffing and now BOOM i get it
Would help if you showed the whole scale first, then showed the pentatonic scale notes out of the diatonic scale leaving out the 2&6, flattening the 3rd. You showed the notes and how they are played, but why those 5 notes of Key of A minor (pentatonic)
How do you play Bdim pentatonic scale?
great 😊
Thanks bro,
I gat to state the fact that I learnt alot of the basics from this video of yours,

@@kevinnickens ah wow, thanks!!!
What throws me off is that there is no f I know why it’s only 5 but why is it that one that’s removed and how
We love you bro
Our music is based on a pentatonic scale
I enjoyed the lesson but at the very end you confused me by saying we can only jam in minor keys.surely the whole idea of the blues is playing minor scales over major keys,or did I miss understand you?
May be a misunderstanding! Think he was joking in reference to having only made a video on the minor pentatonic so far, thus you wouldn’t know how to play the major pentatonic yet.
Not all songs use minor keys. I'm still confused
just go down if your root note is A when you play A major your root note must be G and your second note is A
all minor scales have something called a relative major and vice versa meaning in one pentatonic shape, there are already 2 keys a major and a minor they just share the same notes, in the context of Am for example. the first note of the scale is A so its an A minor when you start on the 2nd note which is a C and then play the exact shape you played the C major pentatonic, meaning Am has a relative major key which is C major. one thing to note that the root notes ofc shift and this concept can be applied in any Key
🤙
Ummmm. Isnt it the minor pentatonic scale cause it has a flat 3? Not cause its within one octave?
Good question, the minor 3rd is a principle that’s carried over from the diatonic scales. All scales only span one octave, I was just explaining that we just have to pick one of the octaves in order to actually play the scale
It’s probably A minooorrrrr
You only covered one shape though, there's four more shapes to learn for the full scale.
it is still confusing to me. So you say, you take A minor pentatonic shape and move it to the different location, meaning that root note always have to be A?? So if I use root note not A, that means it is different pentatonic scale, but with the same shape? Correct statement? So how the shape of the scale is formed then?
If I hear James Hetfield say “grab your guitar” one more time I swear to god
And the idiot next to him mimicking his voice but not doing it very well
Get musician, and let’s play 😂😂
Get your guitar get yousician and let’s play (enter sandman starts playing) the best way to play like us is to play with us
I thought i was the only one with my youtubw ad being possessed by papahet lmao
get yousician. and lets play. the best way to play like us, is to play with us.
The only person I’ve found that puts dots where the finger touches. You have no idea how many videos I’ve went through I just couldn’t see it or understand the shape being made so I’m very grateful. Thank you. 💜
Thank you for putting dots where the finger is pointing
agree it so finally clicked with me because as you said he is the only person have also seen put the dots there make it so much easier to see
I am glad I wasn't the only person who noticed that. Thank you sir!
I just want you to know you’ve helped me understand the pentatonic scale and the way you teach it is superb
YOU DID IT. Finally someone told me why A in the thickest string can be the same than A on a slimmer string. They don't sound the same but still are same note. Just an octave away from each other.
If y learn the low E string you have learned the high E string.
Play on.
Man, that's the best video I've ever seen explaining it. I finally understood these. Deserved new subscriber)
Thank you so much for this video! As a guitar player who refuses to learn music theory (but realizes the necessity of it due to it's creative unshackling), I can't thank you enough for making it easy to learn for someone who has NO prior music theory knowledge.
This doesn't explain how the pentatonic is actually built, but tbf it says "How to play it" not know the intervals for it
First off you have taught me more in ten minutes than I've learned in hours lost in the internet abyss. Secondly is it me or is the video on how to solo in major chords not out yet? (Mentioned at 9:43) thanks!!
As a beginner, I'd pay a lot of money for a subscription or membership if I could only find someone that uses those colored dots where your fingers go in their online video lessons. It makes things WAY EASIER for me to see what's going on. Brilliant!
Keep these easy-to-understand videos coming.
I stumbled on your Pentatonic Scale (Fully Explained) and I have to say, it’s changed my life. In all of the years of being the frustrated guitarist, you explained it all in a 10 minute video. Thanks a million!🎉🎉🎉
That’s awesome! So glad the video helped
I don't know why, but this video actually inspired me to play my guitar more so than other videos. Maybe because all the other knowledge I got to know prior (thanks to you) is being interconnected in to one bigger 'thing'. That or because this just scratches my itch a little bit more lol, thank you!
That's awesome! Thank you!
It's been 4 years since i started learning guitar and them gave up cz I didn't understand what use are scales. Your guitar map and now this video are giving me a new beginning. Thanks
Brilliant as always, you're doing God's work sir! I can't believe you've stuck to your word and haven't tried to paywall some of this behind a website already.
I heard once that the minor pentatonic scale shape can be used for major as well? Like the major of Am is C, so that Am pentatonic becomes the C major pentatonic. Is that true?
I think I actually know the answer to this!
Yes! Am and C are the same thing. I’ll go deeper into this in the follow up video, but the short answer is that Am and C major are the same notes, just in a different order
Ive been lookin for for this. Thank you so much❤❤❤
You're welcome! Glad this helped!
I think the main thing that this video should mention is that the scale shape is movable along the fretboard. The notes that were displayed in the sticky notes represented the notes in the A Minor scale, even those beyond the first octave of the scale. I think that the idea as presented missed the main merit to the Minor Pentatonic Scale shape, the moveable nature of the scale. (All scale shapes are moveable - but since this is being shown as the basics of Pentatonic, the fact that the shape could be used for any root on the 6th string would be useful for the beginner.) It would also open up more of the fretboard for using the Minor Pentatonic, knowing that you can just start on a different root note and still have a valid shape/scale.
Thanks for the info - the video did a good job of showing the shape itself. I think it could benefit from just a little bit more theory (the moveable nature of the scale, and the intervals making up the scale itself as a prior comment mentioned.) Also, looking forward to future videos showing your dad’s progress!
Tutor explains things clearly and simply, then professor comes along to make a fk of things.

I’m having some disagreement with your explanation. You mention the “pentatonic scale” is basically the “minor pentatonic scale” but repeating forever. This is false. Even if you repeated those same notes across multiple octaves, it would always have been the minor pentatonic scale, assuming your tonic note was still A. There is a major pentatonic scale as well, which in the case of keeping our tonic pitch of A, would have different notes. Even nerdier still, they don’t continue forever. At a certain point you’d be working in registers either too low or too high for human ears to hear.
Just because a note is too high or low for humans to hear it doesn't mean that note doesn't exist. It means only that WE csn"t hear it.
@@RickMason-yj7pv If a human can't hear it, it isn't music! The whole concept of notes is sounds we can hear.
Agree. This really wasn't an explanation of the minor pentatonic scale at all.
Fantastic video! My thanks to you!
