    NEW VIDEO - Intro to Sculpting: • Zbrush 2020 - Sculptin...
    I always hear about how hard ZBrush is to learn - so lets fix that!
    In this video I go over everything you need to know to get a model in ZBrush, including the little quirks that trip new users up. From there I explain all the basic buttons and menus that you need to navigate working with ZBrush, how to import and export models and more!
    After this you should be ready to sculpt, which I will cover properly in another video :)
    If you have any questions please feel free to leave them below, and be sure to subscribe for more modelling and texturing tutorials :)
    My name is Michael Wilde and I'm a professional VFX artist, I have been working in the industry for 6 years and worked on many Hollywood blockbuster films, including a couple of Oscar winners! I'm here to demystify VFX and try and teach what I know to others :)

    I'm currently in university learning 3D art and learning ZBrush there makes me want to cry. Thank you for laying this out so clearly and competently, and I would love to see tutorials like this for everything you might do in ZBrush 2020 - I will definitely be checking out all of your other ZBrush videos, too.

    Can you also make in-depth tutorials of zbrush? I know that zbrush now has many methods to make objects (standard sculpting, zspheres, zmodeler, spotlight, etc.) It would be interesting to see which tool is best for which kind of shapes... or how the same end model can be achieved using different methods!

    Pretty good video, but when going over the interface, I would recommend going over navigation controls as well. You move all around your object, rotate, zoom, etc. None of this is intuitive in zbrush and should be discussed in a beginner video (hold alt, holding alt-clicking OFF the object to zoom, etc.

    • @BeausToyFarm

      agree... you just say 'click off' it etc. but are you right clicking, left, middle mouse? Intuitive to you, not to us!

    Hey Michael i got a question about the program. I got the ZBrush 2020.1.6 and the layout looks so completely different from every video about ZBrush that it is very confusing with what to do and how to do so. Do you know any kind of advise or video that has this specific version and how it works?

    • @MichaelWildeVFX
      @MichaelWildeVFX  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, I've been using 2020.1.4 and there was no noticeable difference, and now after upgrading to 2021 I also can't see a difference... Any chance you can be more specific about what looks different? This video starts with the default layout so your version should look like that - unless you're using Zbrush Core which I have no idea about

    Starting out a sculpting by bringing in an item that the user doesn't have is a bad way to introduce us. Sculpting on a sphere or that cylinder would've been much easier and beginner friendly to follow along with. When introducing new people you should open by creating that degree of separation.

    • @MichaelWildeVFX
      @MichaelWildeVFX  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      While I get what you're saying, I didn't want to further complicate an already complicated piece of software by going through the whole "make polymesh 3d" that you are required to do with the base primitives in Zbrush. That's a tangent that I will explore in the next one of these. Zbrush has a lot of quirks and this video is aimed mainly at the UI, not sculpting. However I'm aware that people are only learning it for sculpting which is why I do touch on it.

  • @RedYume

    tried to "hold shift" and snap the cylinder. Hold shift and do what? I have tried a bunch of button combinations to no avail. Not very clear. Disappointing.

    • @MichaelWildeVFX
      @MichaelWildeVFX  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As explained a few seconds before it’s for snapping when creating a new object, so you are already dragging it into the canvas with the mouse button! :)

    • @MichaelWildeVFX
      @MichaelWildeVFX  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you’ve never used Zbrush this video is going through all the buttons on the UI so you know where everything is, that may be quite dull if you have used it before but this is for complete beginners. There’s no ‘fluff’ but this video may appear very boring if you have a working knowledge of the software already. If you’re after actual sculpting, I have now released a very about that and not just the UI

  • @MindBurntDE
    @MindBurntDE 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    you are to fast. there is no way to do it at the same time while watching it. it's like you are in rush and you want to finish this tutorial very quick. so i have to press every 5 seconds pause and play

    • @MichaelWildeVFX
      @MichaelWildeVFX  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi there, so this video isn’t really one to follow along with as it’s just me showing new users how to get started and where buttons sit. Since it’s showing off most features of the UI, there’s a lot to go through and the video is already pretty long.
      Zbrush is a complicated piece of software and my suggestion would be to watch this so you know how the software works overall then have a go yourself after and experiment. If you still feel it’s going too quickly maybe try the video speed options, or you can just rewatch any sections that you don’t get :)
