In my opinion, zbrush has the worst UI of any 3d software. It's also one of the most powerful. It's like they made a bunch of amazing tools, swallowed them and threw them up on the screen and called it a UI.
Completely agree - from a UX point of view, it's a huge mess... This is something you just gotta accept, unfortunately. It hasnt changed for as long as ZBrush has been a thing

@@evan6246 Im actually really good at zbrush now. Creating your own ui and drop down windows (with short cuts) makes it a lot more handy. But im still 90% modelling in blender (even tho its using shitty cpu - remeshing and mesh count over 50k makes things crazy slow), just because the transformation and placing new mesh and objects is a straight forward.

Well... I have to say I'm a TON more impressed with zbrush AFTER watching your video. The UI is, as you an many others have said, mind boggling... overly complicated... and someone should be fired. It's been many years since I last used Zbrush but I've really missed it. Of course because I took such a long break from it I forgot everything i knew about the program. This really helps! I learned so many new things I've never known how to do before! I'm eager to get sculpting again! Thank you!
Okay first I want to say thank you! I have been in the game industry for 28 years and always have been a environment artist, props, level design and had done a hand full of characters in the late 90's. At that time the industry so much different, it was about sharing knowledge and not selling 2 or 3 materials made from other materials and selling them for 10.00. Now I am waiting for someone to sell their family members as a bonus pack. I look forward to learning what is new with character modeling, since I'm familiar with a lot of the basics so far on my own, Im assuming this will fill in some blanks I have. And thanks again for this video!!!
incredible tutorial. Watched the video slowly, stopping and trying, by the end of today I'm kind of familiar the very basics of zBrush, 4-5 hours-ish in. Thank you so so much, one of the best tutorials on YT in general.
Even 5 years after this video was released it is still so helpful to a new user. The paid tutorial I'm currently going through is great but the instructor talks fast and virtually blows through the UI portion. I find that most paid courses require that you understand the UI already, and I can kind of understand why. It's so dense and confusing and instructors would rather just get to the project. That's what makes this video so valuable. You guys take your time and break this thing thing down for the Noobs, which everyone was at some point. I'll definitely be saving this one. Thanks!
I was struggling through the Pixologic's 2 billion tutorial videos, one for each feature and menuitem, and was getting infomation overload. Then I decided to look on TH-cam and I found you guys. Thank you for breaking it all down to the meat and potatoes of ZBrush. I'll be alright now!
Learning and laughing is the best way to learn something. Thank you sooooo much. With this, you gave me enough power to try, to mistake, to take it all over again and to have patience until I am thankful with my sculpture. First time when I opened ZBrush I thought I broke it because I was just painting lines around but dunno the instructions.
thank you! I was new to this, and my guide taught me without most explanation, and without most function, just the really basic one (which is only brush) . With this, I am more comfortable is navigating around zbrush now.
As absolute first approach to ZBrush, this was a damn punch in the stomach XD had to take notes on each shortcut and stuffs because I know for a fact that I'll forget half of them in the next 5 minutes. Yet, extremely helpful and clear video, introducing it to amateurs with all the most needed basic tools (and some tricks and tips from who has been using the software for much longer) Also, seeing you sculpt around really gave me a better understanding of how far you can get with literally 4 tools in total. No need to memorize half the brushes, yay! At least for the starters
I can't stress enough how much fun this program is even with absolutely no skill. Before starting the video I just fucked around and made some low poly monstrosities and it was a blast.
I find it hilarious how videos like these, do a much MUCH better job at explaining all the tools and how they work and such, than my expensive university
I cannot my gratitude to you guys for this amazing tutorial. I had previous experience with 3d, but you explain things in a remarcable way. Thanks for showing us the basics!

Other than that, my head kind of exploded there about a third of the way in. (info overload) I cut my teeth on 3ds max, doing mods for Morrowind. Now I can't seem to wrap my head around most other programs lol. Oh well, I still think I'm going to dive into this rabbit hole and see what's what.
Thanks for the video, and you two are amazing.
Without a doubt, the best tutorial for a program I have ever scene.
Thank you so much!
This is gold, thank you so much!
Glad you like it! Thanks.
holy shit in just 1 hour tutorial u included everything a beginner needs. also good idea to let u both speak so that there are 2 opinions and 2 different voices (doesnt get boring)
What a fussy program. Great results but it's like working with a spoiled child.
It took me half an hour to finally go on uncle google to get help with zoom in, zoom out settings up for this program ... So, yap..
What you call "fussy" i call "sophisticated".
@@chiefcaptn1922 Looks like we have a rick and morty fan everyone, guess Zbrush is only for those with the highest IQs
it started as 2D program for making animated movies. Thats why :-)
@@chiefcaptn1922it is easy to get it complicated but difficult to make it simple
I just started learning ZBrush and struggle a lot since all the tut I found are hard to understand or not for beginner. You guys saved my life! Thanks so much!!!
Quick question: I just started using ZBrush. I'm using 3Ds Max everyday and who the hell made UI and hotkeys decisions? This is so confusing!
omg this is crazy, i spend alot of time watching other zbrush tutorial video ,and i always found out its not complete and kinda confusing sometimes (like there is something need to be explain but they dont) , then i found this video .and damnnnnnn this is like the most detailed version of all video i've watched before. reallllyy helps newbie like meeee . thjank you so much :")
Therapist: zsphere man isn't real, he can't hurt you
Zsphere man: 56:22
this is the BEST zbrush beginner tutorial. And i've seen a LOT
Thank you!
15:08 You don't need a $2000 machine to run Zbrush, but you need an $1000 Zbrush :D (or monthly subscription) hehe
It's been many years since I last used Zbrush but I've really missed it. Of course because I took such a long break from it I forgot everything i knew about the program. This really helps! I learned so many new things I've never known how to do before! I'm eager to get sculpting again! Thank you!
Do yourself a favour and use Ctrl+RMB to zoom instead of the finger contortion act of alt+RMB
I dunno, I like the alt LMB way
Okay first I want to say thank you!
You guys are awesome! Do his foe maya 2018
Thanks! We're considering it for Maya and Substance Painter too :)
incredible tutorial. Watched the video slowly, stopping and trying, by the end of today I'm kind of familiar the very basics of zBrush, 4-5 hours-ish in. Thank you so so much, one of the best tutorials on YT in general.
32:18 you guys predicted the corona virus
Even 5 years after this video was released it is still so helpful to a new user. The paid tutorial I'm currently going through is great but the instructor talks fast and virtually blows through the UI portion. I find that most paid courses require that you understand the UI already, and I can kind of understand why. It's so dense and confusing and instructors would rather just get to the project. That's what makes this video so valuable. You guys take your time and break this thing thing down for the Noobs, which everyone was at some point. I'll definitely be saving this one. Thanks!
32:14 They just predicted the Coronavirus!
This was the video I needed to decide if I wanted to spend the 300 on zbrush thanks I appreciate your time and effort
32:13 this guy made corona before it was a thing.
The most fun I've had watching a tutorial, I adore your personalities! Dibs on a podcast!
32:08 he created covid 19 virus :)
First time when I opened ZBrush I thought I broke it because I was just painting lines around but dunno the instructions.
this was one of the - best- tuto that ive ever seen......THANK YOU! now im more comfortable with zbrush ^^
thank you! I was new to this, and my guide taught me without most explanation, and without most function, just the really basic one (which is only brush) . With this, I am more comfortable is navigating around zbrush now.
The best beginner zbrush tutorial ever, no kidding, the BEST, you guys have save my life and is free, holy shit. THANK YOU!
Wow, thank you so much! :D Really glad you liked it.
/H
Could have watched this from 2014 ... th-cam.com/video/PO--0h8XHiw/w-d-xo.html
Blakey Don't stop making soft. I wished I started as early as you. You have a lot of years to learn!
Currently using blender to model things and this makes all my problems with blender 100x better this is for sure the way to go for sculpting
I always find myself coming back to you guys when I need a refresher brilliant as always.
As absolute first approach to ZBrush, this was a damn punch in the stomach XD had to take notes on each shortcut and stuffs because I know for a fact that I'll forget half of them in the next 5 minutes.
Yet, extremely helpful and clear video, introducing it to amateurs with all the most needed basic tools (and some tricks and tips from who has been using the software for much longer)
Also, seeing you sculpt around really gave me a better understanding of how far you can get with literally 4 tools in total. No need to memorize half the brushes, yay! At least for the starters
I can't stress enough how much fun this program is even with absolutely no skill. Before starting the video I just fucked around and made some low poly monstrosities and it was a blast.
Exactly the case for me... coming back to Zbrush after 2 years and i feel like i have amnesia or something lol. Hands down the best tutorial out here.
I hated the UI so much that I moved over to 3dCoat after using zbrush for 8 years. Now I am a happy man. :)
I find it hilarious how videos like these, do a much MUCH better job at explaining all the tools and how they work and such, than my expensive university
I have finally found the best introduction to modeling in Zbrush that is available! I have tried them all and this is the best.
Thanks a lot Jon!
I cannot my gratitude to you guys for this amazing tutorial. I had previous experience with 3d, but you explain things in a remarcable way. Thanks for showing us the basics!
This course was a lifesaver! Totally starting to feel I have a grasp on the basics of this program!
THIS WAS SOOO USEFULL!! thank you guys so much!
this video was TREMENDOUSLY helpful for me in getting started with ZBrush and knowing the things that will help me most to get started .... Thanks for sharing!
Holy crap! I just downloaded Zbrush today and from watching this video I’ve learned so much! Thank you! This was great! Can’t wait to see what I can do with this
I am just starting out with 3D sculpting and modeling and this video is SUPER helpful!!
