Just a tip that worked for me, if you felt frustrated with the result of your first sculpture using sphere, dont rage quit, try again but using a model of the human head, that already comes in the zbrush, it have perfect landmarks that will help you alot, just move the nose, stretch the eyes, claybuild here, inflate there, until it match your monster reference, It is important for beginners (myself included) to finish their first sculptures with the "feeling of success", this will encourage them to keep going!
@Ragnarok As a beginner I've always been afraid to use a base mesh.... "because the pros always use spheres, if i use a base mesh, its cheat right??" NO!! i said to myself, iam not a pro, i dont know anatomy, I barely know the zbrush commands, I barely know the brushs... i will use a base mesh, and this opened the world of 3d to me , now I'm learning Maya, I want to learn how textures, rig, animation, and various other 3d softwares, just because I had "that feeling of success" in zbrush using base mesh, some may feel proud to say "I've turned that sphere into that monster "but I as a beginner have no problem in saying" I turned this human head into this monster " I think it's up to the beginner to decide how hard he's going to be with himself. (this was the first time I used a base mesh , after getting frustrated with the sphere, and it was crucial to have continued to study 3d imgur.com/a/C2vU3BG ) .
Lots of times inspiration will take you places you didn’t initially intend to... the frustrating part is when inspiration doesn’t take you to finishing that 2D concept due tomorrow!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Good stuff as usual guys! A small suggestion is getting one of those "keyboard press" overlays, that show up on the corner of the screen when you're holding alt, shift and other keyboard combinations. Might help some newer users with getting accustomed to keyboard shortcuts.
I came to this video a few years back got frustrated with Z brush and quit. I have a tablet now, totally inspired and ready to give it a second shot. Thanks.
I just want to say, I appreciate that you guys give some assurance from time to time. It can be a bit overwhelming seeing your skills and thinking about how to get there but when you reassure us about not being worried about it, that really helps a lot.
Looks so easy when you do it. I’m not really clear the part you said about if you want join it onto a body? I just started using Zbrush. So far I’ve learnt some basics of the UI and just starting to try and sculpt. I’m finding it incredibly difficult to figure out how to achieve even close to what I’m trying to do. For example yesterday I was trying to sculpt some lips but it just looked like a mess and I had to keep undoing it. I’m hoping that I’ll have the patience to keep going and see some improvements. I don’t have the patience to learn polygon modelling apart from low poly stuff. I’d really love to be able to make some detailed characters. Thanks for the videos. They are very helpful. Didn’t know about turning off alpha 👍
I'm had zbrush for a long time but never got into it. I more less a 3d model artist with 3ds max. But sculpting was something I wanted to get into. Heck I even bough a Tablet like 2 years ago and rarely used it. was XP-Pen. When you mentioned about real world reference and then turn it into something else. You can clearly see the Gorilla in the facial features. But yeah I will subscribe to you channel and check out your beginner tutorial.
Hello :) I'm a bit new on your channel, but I love a lot every video I've seen, you guys are excellent professors, the way you explain things. I would like to ask if you can make a video talking about how to solve he problesm with n-gons when beveling edges. Cheers!!!
@Ergean Ismail i know right cause i remember watching earlier Maya tutorials and they always had the shortcut keys appear while the tutorial is going on.
Lucky Enam I don’t think zbrush has that feature like maya or blender. They’d have to do that in post in after effects or premiere or whatever they use to edit their vids. But zbrushs shortcuts are fairly simple for the most part. Ik it doesn’t seem like it but imo they’re easier than something like blenders shortcuts
Your shared video is trully amazing and I am so lucky to be able to see your beautiful work through your channel. I believe that we share a similar goal to be achieved.
Hey can you provide us a guide what to make next on our own for practice... the most annoying thing is not knowing what to make next which will boost my confidence and will be easy... I am stuck in the situation what should i make next and it happens with me every time even when I was learning blender....
Why does one disable DynaMesh after a while? I am just curious. I am 8 hours into my first sculpt, and I really feel like I made a lot of progress, but haven't yet disabled the mesh, because I didn't know I should.
i was kind of crushed when you said you cant sculpt with a mouse, although it makes sense. i desperately tried using a tablet, but I just couldn't get it. After a few months of failure and serious wrist problems i think zbrush defeated me. i had actually got rather far with just the mouse.
I've been poly modeling for years using blender wanted to give a go at zbrush sculpting and got myself a cheap tablet. Huion brand. After a week I can NOT think of using the mouse for anykind of design ever
Great tutorial, but I really am struggling to keep up... because I can't figure out how in the world you change sizes and intensity on the fly. I see your tool suddenly getting bigger and smaller, but how do I do that without changing it every time in the settings.
i know and use zbrush for 1 year now, nevertheless i had to watch that video. i shall not miss a single video from you guys! :D Maybe it would be good to cover that part after dynamesh: "duplicate/zremesh/reproject" for better topology to sculpt on? Thanks for that content!
I have an issue that I hope you can help with. Your clay looks smooth all around. Mine looks like it has grid marks all over it. When cutting out the holes for the eyes, mouth and nose, it looses the smoothness bad. I followed your direction and used the button to restore the resolution. That mesh button where it adds the grid and you click and drag outside of the face. Anyway, after doing that, it still isn't smooth like yours. I'm not sure if I missed something. I'm pretty sure my laptop meets minimum requirements. Please help! 🤘
So in the video you said using dynamesh is just for building form and then you subdivide when detailing, so when you are detailing a model like in the section where you take the chunk out of the ear how would you go about adding more geometry to that one area without subdividing and adding more geometry to the entire model? I ask cos you can see when you push that section of ear in, you can see the polys start to show though so would there be a way to add more to that area?
Advice: You want more specific reference, like real world, always look at the real world... Me: Turning off my PC, taking my backpack and going on an Adventure.
I realized sometimes my model's proportion is off compared to reference...(i.e. distance between eyes, nose to mouth, the general face size, etc) is there a way to ensure that my model can stick closer to the reference?
I am not watching this shit if there's an ad every 5 minutes. Second video in a row and I can't just leave my phone sitting because I end up with a 10 minute ad trying to play at some point.
Would like to see the salty rich kids with All the ultimate technology gear and tablets and STILL not being able to do nothing 🤣. People train your eyes!

I wish I had read this comment before starting. Demotivation is a real pain that can cause young budding sculptors like me to throw away the brush.
It is really looks like my first sculpt, except i was trying to do human head.
Lol
Haha! Same for us

same... mine look like Quasimodo

This was my first sculpt, well after a few fails.Thank you for the tutorial, my sculpt turned out not bad! :)subbed!

is it possible to have the Shortcut buttons shown at the bottom in your tutorials for us beginners?

Do you have a tutorial video on the interface of Z Brush? Like this is where you do this, and this is that, and that is this, type of walkthrough?
We do indeed!

It's literal satisfaction to watch. haha can't wait for my tablet to come... Mouse is a big no-no. I just experienced it. No way..

I just used move brush and its made scary goblin out of hopeless tiny gob. And this 1st work was not bad at all. maybe I have hidden talents)
Awesome! Good luck :D
a troll hero, beautiful!
when you start with a cube, how many times do you need to subdivide and crease it? and should you do this before you start sculpting?
Great. Thanks guys!
excellent tutorial but let's be realistic, no one makes a first sculpt of such high quality
Great stuff. I wonder how you can use photos reference inside Zbrush?
Import
How were you able to load pureref image into zbrush ?
Wish I could afford Zbrush... or Zbrushcore ! I need it !
look for a wacom 3d tablet, i think that have a zbrush core licence

How are you rotating the object without taking your curser off the face an while you are in Clay buildup mode?
Will there be a part 2 of this?

Really I sculpt with a mouse. But maybe I should use a Wacom.
We highly recommend it. Your sculpting will be better and you'll be less likely to be injured
I realized sometimes my model's proportion is off compared to reference...(i.e. distance between eyes, nose to mouth, the general face size, etc) is there a way to ensure that my model can stick closer to the reference?
Modeling directly on top of the images is a good way. You can put the images in the background and reduce the opacity of the ZBrush window (top right)
Pleasea tell me what is the resoultion of your dynamesh its why not stech in first eye
Obrigado
Bravo
So when i turn off symmetry will it effect my workflow when i turn it back on or the retopology needs to be different? i am really confuse?
Thank you!!
How do I delete a small feature that I did wrong without starting again? Ctrl drag outward is it?

i am geting killed on blender is zbrush better for sculpting
Too many shortcuts for the begginers, not that is a problem, but you always should tell where is button (tools, mode..) is in UI.
