    This is great. There aren't nearly enough videos like these on outsider artists that aren't named Frank Zappa or Captain Beefheart. • @justinb864
      @justinb864 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Frank Zappa was into avant-garde but he was not an outsider artist. Same with Captain Beefheart. Their music is weird and nonconventional on purpose. Whereas outsider art is often more focused on the eccentricity of the artist themselves and the music isn’t usually intended to be considered odd. Tiny Tim fits the description of this, but Zappa definitely does not.

    I liked his early work , he was very inspired, talented, and fun to listen to. It was his innate ability to recognize the sentimental beauty of the 19th and early 20th century love ditties, and lovingly recycle them while accompanied with ukulele, that was his genius. Nowadays people all look like copies of someone or something else that we see everyday. To be original and unique is something Tiny had in spades. Creative and one of a kind , we will miss you my friend godspeed and reast in peace. ❤

    I am very pleased with this video, a great compilation of contexts. I live in a country very, very far south, far from North American culture. However, in my childhood I think I heard something by tiny tim. I had forgotten about it and after 30 years I heard the tone of his first hits in a video... it made me remember and look for that music. I've been collecting everything from this great soul for 2 days now. God Bless Tiny Tim.

    Tiny Tim and Victoria Jackson - Easter Parade Conan O'Brien 1995.
    I searched for that video across the internet maybe every other year since probably 2000. It got uploaded by The Vintage Man last year. It's a pretty special performance if you've never seen it.

    Thank you for this video! I already felt that Tim was an amazing artist very outside of everything going on in his time but knowing now that Rock exists its genuinely amazing how absolutely insane that album is thank you for this review and also thank you for touching on his less than desirable views yet still being genuine about his music. Great Vid man!

    Witnessing Tiny Tim's version of "Rebel Yell," is the closest thing of what I imagine goes through a pyrotechnic's head as they stand by and watch what they've set ablaze burn down into smoldering ashes.
    Listening to the breakdown of the song structure was even more wild to me. It was like the ending to the movie, The Wrestler, where the main character chooses to end his life executing his signature finishing move as he's simultaneously dying of a heart attack. In other words, we were Witnessing a man going out doing what he loves, which also makes that fact that Tiny Tim actually died in a similar manner pretty ironic.
    Ultimately, you really gotta admire the man's delusional level of drive to "make it."

    You're doing great work with your video essays, this one's your best yet. This was a fun watch, especially the album "analysis". Shame you didn't mention anything about the album "Songs of an Impotent Troubadour", an even bigger oddity than " The Rock" imo.
    Anyways, keep up the good work, can't wait to see what your next video will be about.

    He terrified me as a kid, musically and visually. I'm not old enough to have seen him live on TV but my neighbor as a kid was a huge fan of his, often playing his music and having pictures of him in her house.
    Terrified me and still kinda does. I can only comfortably watch videos of him as an older man when he's chilled-out a bit.
    When he was younger and sauntering around all creepy and singing with that high pitch...lol...nightmare fuel.

  • @klaatoris

    This is great work. I've long been fascinated by Tiny Tim, but in no way a superfan (unlike a guy I know, who actually owns a copy of that board game, and once met David Tibet over their mutual love of Tiny Tim, only to LATER find out that Tibet was quite a big deal in his own right ...), so I had never heard of this album. Of course we shouldn't put psychiatric diagnoses on dead people, but as an autistic guy myself, I can relate to his awkward ways and some of his quirks, and it's actually inspiring how he didn't seem to even try to mask them.
    I have to wonder if you've heard "The Savoy Sessions", recorded in the 90s by the washed up early 60s star P.J. Proby? An equally unhinged set of really ill-advised and weirdly produced cover songs, but in a darker way. Proby (who is, amazingly, still alive today) does not seem to be a pleasant character by any stretch of the imagination, but I love this trainwreck of an album. The high point is the 9 minute rendition of "Anarchy in the UK", where he goes from a confused rant about being "the father of the KKK" to moaning "my whole life is destroyed!" in a way that really makes you believe him. th-cam.com/video/GsugcFLVttg/w-d-xo.html

    Tiny Tim was something we sadly lack these days, a true individual. Pop stars are all so similar now that you'd think there was a factory somewhere just churning them out, (spoiler: there is). But TT was unique in every way, from his voice to his appearance to even the way he thought. The world needs outsiders like Tiny Tim, they're the parmesan cheese to life's spaghetti and meatballs. Not strictly necessary but a little sprinkle just makes it all taste so much better.
