I wanna inject your content directly into my veins. Please keep going, you're hella underrated and you'll get the attention you deserve, I'm sure of it.
Your ability to take such random things, and make them utterly interesting and relevant is such an incredible skill. Found your Tommy Wiseu vid first but now I’m on a marathon. Hope to see a whole lot more man, I love this stuff
My favorite Mao recording is his sound collage "Revolution 9," from his 'Red' album. I heard that he was very inspired by avant-garde artist Yoko Ono at the time.
I know I know, plenty have said this already, but I was recommended the Marco Pierre White video and I'm enjoying them all thoroughly. Related to the video though, I'm impressed by your pronunciation of Mandarin in this video (especially the tones). It sounds like you've either learned it before, or at least put effort into learning how to pronounce the words. A lot of people on TH-cam disappointingly do not put in that effort. Even when the topic is otherwise well-researched. (Also: I just checked the description, good job for having sources even with citation formatting for the books, but the Google doc is publicly editable rather than set to "View Only.")
I love strange musical oddities like this, I found two records published by Red Hand Records a UVF record label both are compilations of poorly recorded gospel and loyalist country.
Thank God you exist, incredible research, weird subjects and a delightful sense of humour. Netflix beckons but while you are here keep the videos coming.
Okay, so the reason I’m commenting on this video instead of a more popular one is that I’m hoping you’ll actually see and read this comment. I got your Marco Pierre White video in my recommended recently, and I thought it was fantastic (10/10, no notes). I’m subscribing to your channel in the hopes that you’ll continue to pursue your TH-cam career, with similar content in the future. Seriously, the stuff you’ve made so far is excellent, and your editing/narration style is exactly what I look for in creators that I want to watch when I’m on this website. Hopefully you continue to put your passion into similar things - all the best 👍 (Also if you have a discord channel or patreon or another platform that you want to promote, definitely go ahead and do it - would love to follow along and get notifications about future projects)
I’ve got to say I think especially in the 3 reasons section you’re being a bit ahistorical. While it is true that those attitudes existed in early 1900s China, by the time 1949 came and the communists won the war, an entirely new brand of thinkers shaped Chinese political philosophy. They viewed things through Marxism, not old Chinese superstitions, and this can be seen through their efforts to combat the “olds” in society. They sought to revolutionise society, and make music about the revolutionary, the worker and the masses, encouraging them to fight on to communism. To them, there was no room for materialistic pop in a country like that. I believe this to be the main reason, over the ones you have presented.
Yeah, I’d say this video is not very well structured overall, haha. Both the republic and the CCP were against pop music, but their justifications as to why weren't exactly identical, and I did the topic a disservice by presenting it the way I did. In particular, the whole “music is basically mind control” thing seems more like a snobbish republican take rather than a CCP one. I guess what I was getting at was a vague notion that “music was a way to influence behaviour”, and that ultimately both sides wanted to harness the “power of music” to reach their political goals, but that’s a stretch to be honest. I realize that this stuff is kinda above my paygrade, and I bet I wouldn’t have released it if I hadn’t already sunk 5 months into it. Kill your darlings, and so on. Good comment.
@@dr_hugo thank you for your response! I did find the video overall good though, and the one on the gerogerigegege has been something I’ve wanted to see for years. Perhaps a video on the wider world of Japanese noise (Keiji Haino, High Rise, Rallizes, hanatarash etc) would be something you’d like to make? Either way, subscribed!

I'm jealous! I've got some wartime era German and Moscow choir discs but this!?
Kind of off topic but Red Sun in the Sky is such a catchy song, if the Soviet Union had such poppin tunes no doubt they would have crushed the West
Dette er så bra!
❤
i love mao ze tung say something to brazil yoooooooooooooo
