As a little girl I lived in Japan in the late 70s/early 80s, when Pink Lady was super popular and I watched Candy Candy. I had Pink Lady, Candy Candy and Sanrio everything. I still have my Candy Candy toy sewing machine, and it still works! And several of my coloring books. Japan was the most fun place I ever lived. I think especially from the point of view of a child. Still now as an adult, I like to go to the Asian Market to get the foods and snacks I used to eat in Japan. Brings back childhood memories. Before moving to Japan, my family lived very old fashioned in S. Korea; pumping water from a well, hand washing clothes and we didn't have a bathroom. We would go to town and use the public bath house. Living in Japan was a modern upgrade for us.

This was really interesting to see. I grew up with a rotary phone, and a similar combo unit of radio, record player, and television. Ours came in a large cabinet.
Also really cool to see the thatch roof hut. Seemed fairly roomy in there. Nice to have a peek into the past.

Absolutely LOVED the visit (and the De Lorean meeting Spiderman 😂). I was surprised by the way the bathroom sink was placed at the entrance to the kitchen, but it's still better than none (there used to be no bathrooms in our apartments, and usually people made do with the kitchen sink + public baths). I was stunned by the 10,000 year old dwelling--so impressive! Thank you again, Usui-san! 🙏

Hello Usui. Thank you for sharing your musum visit. I loved that the apaprtment was so simple and had everything needed by the family. I enjoy seeing how tings used to be and the old appliances and furniture. Some of the items and the furniture looked similar to what my Grandparents in the UK would have used, although in the UK it has always been beds not futons and they would have had wooden floors with large woven wool rugs not Tatami mats

I was born in 1962 and, even things were somewhat different here in Portugal, I recognized some of them: the vacuum cleaner, the TV set, the refrigerator, the laundry machine… They were similar to those that existed at my parents house. We moved to Japan 15 years after 1969, we lived in an apartment not very different from this because it had been built around the same time. Only difference was the bathroom had been updated to 1980s standards and there wasn’t tatami mats. It was odd for us an American family to share one bathroom for all of us. We adapted pretty quickly though. We didn’t have a sink in our kitchen but our kitchen looked the same. We had a tiny washing machine in the kitchen. We also had two small bedrooms for all us kids. But in comparison to American apartments it was so small. But we made it work.

Thank you for videoing this lovely Japanese apartment. I was born in 1962 so it was interesting to see what an apartment in Japan was like back then. We are currently living in a 30sqm area until our daughter and her family move to Australia in a week and then we will get our house back 🥹. It’s not too bad living in a smaller space, but not as tiny as a Japanese micro apartment!.

... La tina de madera está muy bonita!!

Definitely a place I would visit if I were to come to Japan. I love to explore the history of different places. I was born in the mid-fifties so I'm old enough to remember my mother using many of the electrical items as a child. My mothers washing machine was similar to the tub shown but my first washing machine was a top loading twin tub. So basically a tub with a electric spin dryer attached not a manual wringer. Although I did use one as a child. I also recognised the TV as we had one similar and the furniture. Makes me feel very nostalgic. My childhood was a very happy time for me. ❤

Nice video. If you ever get to Osaka, there is a museum on top of Ogimachi subway station that has a display of houses and shops from the Edo period. Also tatami mat floors are still used extensively in apartments and houses. I’m surprised at the western style toilet and wonder how common this was for the 1960’s.

"Reminiscence Therapy", the video takes me back to Taiwan when I was a child...Japanese-style telephones, tatami mats and bathtubs🥰🥰🥰⋯⋯I really want to go back to that time🤪🥷

This was great. Thank you for the museum visit, and for the old, old, _old_ house visit. I love them and I wouldn't be able to see it myself. Thank you also for showing the gift items that the museum shop had. I feel like I had an outing right beside you. Thanks again.
