I’m not a musician but a fan of John Bonham and Led Zep since their inception.. this young lady is beyond amazing… a rare God Given talent. Yoyoka, keep on rockin’
Thanks for bringing more attention to Yoyoka’s drumming. She needs more recognition! You should checkout some of her covers since she moved to California with her family. She is my absolute favorite drummer. Her little brother Shido can hold his own also. The whole Soma family is pretty awesome.
She said that Bonham's style feels the most natural to her. This girl is unstoppable. More Yoyoka, please! Her cover of Tower of Power's "What Is Hip" is pretty amazing.
So effortless....Yotoka has the gift of knowing what goes where...I think she will become an even better producer than she a drummer and she is great..
I bet both Bonhams are smiling to her drumming! She always puts her stamp on what shes doing in the end. Her version of "Seven Days" by Sting is crazy good! Original drummer no other than Vinnie Colaiuta...
Thank you for your comments, it's true that Yoyoka is really in a class apart, we don't call her the "Hokkaido Hammer" for nothing. Don't be shy to put more Yoyoka
That piece would typically be difficult to play for a kid her age, but she pulled it off. Robert Plant once said that this song really shows the talent that John Bonham had as a drummer and Yoyoka came through just fine.
Her mother said, Yoyoka doesn't try to read music and can't read😆 I believe she has the ability to reproduce the sounds she hears and create her own groove. My daughter is a dancer, and when she saw yoyoka's performance, she said it looked like a dancer was playing. I think of her as music in herself. From Japan😚
I'm pretty sure she can read sheet music now, I've seen her with it propped up in front of her for some of her jazz gigs. She did start off playing by ear though, I don't think she wanted to learn to read music so much as it just became a necessity to keep progressing.
Those K hi hats sound so tasty...As a drummer for 47 years; played this song many times...She does it near perfect...And that hi hat work is 100% in the original.
Yoyoka is really growing in leaps and bounds. She is coming into her own as a professional musician. She is finally in an environent where she has had to learn to be able to read music and drum at the same time. Her ability to speak English is improving daily. She is not slowing down in the least as, you may or may not know, she moved to the US and was going to a school in Oakland. Now she is on a magical music tour back in Japan. When she comes back to the US, she and her family are going to pull up stakes and move to LA. Now, that covid has disappeared for the most part, it is time to get back to work, meaning that I do not have the time to follow her like I once did. It is always good when she gets reactions to her music. I just really hope that she will be able to do what she wants to with as much talent as she has. Just a real shame the way the music and recording industry is in shambles.
A joy indeed. So many covers. I particularly like Led Zeppelins "The Ocean" which she recorded in a studio in Las Vegas along with an amazing young Bass player, Ellen Alaverdyan (9), and two very talented teenagers Eva and Mateo. The 12th birthday sessions are a must. Robert Plant watched her at 8 performing ""Good Times Bad Times" saying he knew where she could get a good job. Ian Paice of Deep Purple watched her cover of "Burn" where she rocked out and reached out to her to do some work. She has been invited to sit in live with Cindy Lauper and others, but she's been gigging since she was 4. There is footage of her at 6 doing a stripped down version of "Onyx". And on and on. All of her covers are one take, so you get it warts and all. Also the youngest person to be endorsed by Pearl Drums. What is truly amazing though is all the musicians, and producers that I see watching her, when is someone going to get her into some of the paid session work she deserves. She lives in the USA now. Love the respect and awe though. She is one of a number of rising superstars which include the aforementioned, along with Angelina Jordan and others. Hope I get to see them all live before I stop breathing. Anyway, keep up the love and Joy for this one. Be well.
Try checking out her cover of Sting's "Seven Days" with drums played by Vinnie Calaiuta. She certainly doesn't shy away from covering the difficult drummers.

Utterly amazing I can't keep my mouth closed in jaw dropping amazement. Let's get her a cheeseburger and fries cause thats the only thing missing FN amazing.
I’ve already made a suggestion, so IF I already have then disregard it. As it she takes on more & more complex songs, my thoughts always go to Billy Cobham. From his 1st endeavour “Stratus”: “Quadrant Four”. Any thoughts people? And again, *how* do I post my request/suggestion? ALOHA! Coz…..
Hi my friend! Yes, yes…so currently I am in the process of honoring the donation request. When and if those are done then I can consider other suggestions. If you just can’t wait feel free to make a donation request if it’s fits your budget. See the following link for making requests. 🫶 www.stratelestudios.com/request
Check out her cover of Seven Days by Sting with Vinnie C. on drums. Check out anything she covers. I think one of my favorites is the cover of the Ocean by LED ZEPPELIN she did with prodigy bassist Ellen A. with two teens Eva and Mateo. Audio done in one take! Thanks for your fine reaction good sir!
I'd always thought that people who did covers on TH-cam must practice for days. I was astonished to hear Yoyoka say that she only usually needs 2 or 3 listens to a track before she has it down...
She is a natural. I read an autobiography by Elos drummer Bev bevan you can either play drums or you can’t she can. There’s an Iranian cover band that covers this song the drummer is also awesone. I am sue the hi hats hers
There are many who believe that John Bonham did not totally leave us. You look at Yoyoka, and you begin to wonder if there's something to that statement, right?
As a bassist, i think this is perhaps the toughest song to play from start to the end Here's our humble try where even our camera gave up ! haha th-cam.com/video/08IuU_YP4o8/w-d-xo.html
Right is right, wrong is wrong. At the beginning the staccato snare beat is missing an 1/16 note every time. Listen to the original. Makes it just a little more difficult to play and stay on time.
On top of her incredible drumming skills, her 'stank face' is absolutely on point.
I’m not a musician but a fan of John Bonham and Led Zep since their inception.. this young lady is beyond amazing… a rare God Given talent. Yoyoka, keep on rockin’
The game has been brought to another level. She's beyond just a good drummer. ✌👍
Yoyoka is simply amazing.

🤯nailed it! Yes Bonham does the high hat like that! Totally enjoyed watching that! Incredible! Thank you! ❤
She’s awesome - what a prodigy. But this is also a reminder of just how great Bonham was. His powerful snare tone was just unique and special.
She said that Bonham's style feels the most natural to her. This girl is unstoppable. More Yoyoka, please! Her cover of Tower of Power's "What Is Hip" is pretty amazing.
She does Tower of Power?!!! B ok that’s my next one!!!

She absolutely nails Achilles Last Stand. Love this.
I always liked Led Zeppelin from when I was young. I truly became a fan because of Yoyoka. She got me to really listen to their songs.
I love Sina she is great, but, I just stumbled upon the greatest! Just wow! ❤
I found Yoyoka and Wave Potter because I was listening to Sina. I still listen to Sina but always listen to Yoyoka.
🤯🤯 She is just …. wauw!!!😃🤩🥰🫠😅
And she lives in the States now so it's easier for all of us to potentially see her live.
Oh hell yea! 😃👏👏👏
She is busy gigging in the bay area and is touring Japan this summer doing gigs and drum clinics.
Incredible. Nothing but love
Yoyoka: you are so good! Love what you do! ❤

That piece is difficult to play for anyone, even for experienced adult drummers.
To know she could replace any drummer in any band today boggles the melon. Bravo !
