My name is Esther Drew from TN.I am 87 years old.my mother made this a lot in the winter it was so good.we had a lot of canned berries.she also cooked a guart of berries just like you did and sifted in corn meal and made berrie mush ,it was good with a little milk poured on it.good by.
My family is from eastern Kentucky, and my grandmother used to make this for me whenever we would go to visit grandma. I made thes, and although not as good as grandma, they were fantastic. This brought back a lot of great memories. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
My mother in law always made the best years ago. These are my absolute favorite. She never measured anything and they always came out perfect. She served it warm with vanilla ice cream. I always wondered how she made them. Thank you so much.
My grandmother always made this every summer when I was growing up. I remember it well. I just picked a bunch of berries myself. Need to try this for sure. Looks delicious.
My Mother made this for the entire neighborhood! We would go pick the berries and bring them back to her. Its been almost 30yrs. of me searching for the closest recipe to hers and this is it! One thing i notice is that you use oil and my Mom used lard. No measuring or nothing and it came out perfect everytime! She also used cinnamon. Itried making it but failed horribly! Im not going to stop until i get it right! Good ole days with good food! Thanks for sharing and wish me luck 🤞🏾.
We'd pick berries and my mother would make this. She had passed and years later, for the longest time, I thought it was called blackberry cobbler. I'd look up recipes, but knew they weren't the same. Then a couple of years ago, I realized it was dumplings she was making Cobblers are ok, but this is the real deal...thanks for posting!
I like cobblers too, but Blackberry Dumplings are my favorite. I hope this recipe comes close to the wonderful dumplings your mom used to make! Thank you so much for you comment!
I make these because my grandmother made wild Maine blueberry dumplings. I wanted to see how they war with blackberries which I also love and I love them both now. I was interested in the way you make yours. :-)
Just use the same amount of fresh berries as the frozen berries and they will work just fine. I have used both frozen and fresh. You may want to add just a little more water to the pot if using fresh.
You can freeze the dumplings. I just reheat them in the microwave when I am ready to eat them. I just a in a tablespoon of water. Thank you for your comment! :)
I have stored my leftovers in the freezer before. I usually have to add just a bit of water back after I thaw them. I just reheat them in the microwave. Thanks so much for your comment! :)
Is there any such thing as having too many blackberry dumplings left over?!!! I don't think so. I wish I had that problem. I'm always thinking there won't be enough to go around 😁 Jude, from Kentucky ✝️🥀🐴🇺🇲💚
I have to agree❣️🌿🐦 Usually it's ''go to my website" or try to write down everything you're saying as fast as I can write. Having the recipe right here is so convenient. I am so happy you liked the recipe! And of course, grandma always makes the best food! I'm so glad it brought back great memories for you too!
I remember picking blackberries on a hot summer day from fence rows, or out in the fields. Always had to wear long sleeves as well.
Me too! We used to pick them right beside an unused railroad track, next to a mountain. They grew wild. It was so much fun!
Folks use melted butter instead of vegetable oil. That is what my grandmother used because in her early days vegetable oil didn't exist.
I bet the melted butter gives an even richer, more delicious flavor. :)

I love them too! I have never tried them with ice cream! What a great idea! Thank you so much for your comment and enjoy! :)

Reheat in the kitchen.
Grrrrrrrrrl, you better roll out and cut those dumplings!
Sounds great, but my family prefers them this way! Thanks for your comment.

Teaching people to cook without a recipe in the drop-down box is not very helpful.
Thank you!

Nothing like a few berries with your sugar lol 2.5 cups of sugar is ridiculous
Use as much sugar as you like to your own taste.
