    I cannot tell you how long I have searched for an old fashioned cobbler like my grandmother and mother used to make and it DID NOT have a batter mix for a crust. I dont know when these battered cobblers came about but thats not the way the old time southerners made them! Thank you for your clear and precise instructions!!

      I'm so glad you were able to find my recipe. I like the old-fashioned cobblers with pie crust as well. They're the best! 😀🥧

    Parnell I love that you go in and remake your recipes for the better that’s definitely important. Great tips on cooking the blackberries first and picking them up with the perfect amount of corn starch at the end. I like that you skip the vanilla extract and added the lemon juice this time around to give a slight bit of tartness to that sweet dessert. Also I love the lattice work you did on that blackberry cobbler beautiful. I bet those dumplings were super flavorful cooking in that blackberry juice

    Mr. Parnell, Blackberry cobbler is the BOMB! I have always placed a layer of pie crust on my finished dish. I then sprinkle sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and sliced butter on top of the crust. I will then place my dish in the oven at 375 until my crust is golden brown and bubbling. ...............Milwaukee, WI

      Hi, Alfrieda!
      I like the idea of adding cinnamon and nutmeg, as well as sliced butter on the top. I will have to give that a try.
      Thanks for all the delicious ideas! 👨‍🍳🥧👍

    Hi Parnell 🙋‍♀️ We learned about fruit with dumplings with you. We had no idea this was a thing but love the idea. Close to our apartment there's actually a blackberry trees and it's completely full. That's great that the berries stay mostly intact. We like the idea of old school simple dough strips. :-)

    Hey Parnell! Cool to see you making this blackberry cobbler with dumplings. We love blackberries! This would be perfect for a summertime bbq dessert. Nice to hear why you cook the berries on the stove first. Makes sense to break down the berries a bit. Nice you used corn starch instead of flour for thickening. The dumplings look tasty. We have never had them in sweet food before but it sounds interesting. The end result looked so good and love the color you got in the dessert! Perfect with ice cream or whip cream! Great video and love you to the moon and have a great week! 💖🌛💖

    This blackberry cobbler looks fantastic Parnell! I just love cobbler of all kinds. How interesting that you put dumplings in the blackberry filling. Your explanation of balancing the bitterness is helpful. Thanks for sharing. Improving on recipes you've made brings your skills full circle.

    Hi Parnell. This looks so good. I’m not a big fan of blackberries, because of all the seeds, but I think I would make an exception for this dessert, especially if you serve it with vanilla ice cream 😋😋😋

    That lattice type is divine. Then again, l love dumplings and extra crust. If l want extra juice, l can cook more blackberries down in a pot and serve it along and on top of my cobbler.

      Thank you very much! I love cobblers with a lattice top, too. Cooking some extra blackberries off to the side for extra juice is a good idea.

    When my mother made blackberry jelly,she used the leftovers to make cobbler.
    She made it in alternate layers.
    But yours looks perfect.
    I never had it with the dumplings.
    We picked wild blackberries,so you have to be careful of snakes in the bushes.

    • @ParnellTheChef
      @ParnellTheChef  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Long time no see!
      I am sure that your mom's blackberry cobbler was delicious! I need to make the jelly at some point, too--thanks for the idea!
      If you have never had blackberry cobbler with dumplings, you should definitely give it a try. The combination of crispy crust on top and soft crust inside the cobbler is very nice. Also, like I said in the video, the dumplings help to balance out the bitterness of the seeds.
      And yes, be careful of snakes in the bushes!
      Thanks for watching and commenting! 🥧🍇

    ❤❤Parnell, in this video, you said you prefer your own homemade pie crust, can you provide a recipe for your pie crust so I can use it with this amazing Southern Cobbler recipe??

    • @ParnellTheChef
      @ParnellTheChef  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! My crust is a bit different from most, but everyone who tries it, loves it. I like it since it's so easy to make, and the vinegar gives it a slight acidic taste that helps to balance out the sweetness of the filling. I made a video showing how I make it:
      th-cam.com/video/40PQdt-qJ88/w-d-xo.html
      But in short, the recipe for 1 pie crust is:
      1 cup flour (150g)
      about 4 Tablespoons cold water (I think I usually use 4-4.5)
      2 Tablespoons melted butter
      2 Tablespoons oil (I used canola)
      1/2 apple cider vinegar
      1/2 teaspoon sugar
      1/2 teaspoon salt
      For this cobbler recipe, you'll need to make 2 crusts.
      Let me know what you think! 👨‍🍳👍

      Thank you!!!! (Is that 1/2 tsp or tbsp of Vinegar?) I have heard the Vinegar makes for a tender and flaky pie crust! Im going to head to the store tomorrow and make this cobbler!!!

    • @ParnellTheChef
      @ParnellTheChef  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yellowrose4125 Hi, again!
      1/2 teaspoon (but honestly, I usually pour in a bit more, so more like 3/4 teaspoon, lol).
      I updated the comment above, but I totally forgot about the water--you'll need about 4 Tablespoons of cold water, too (can't believe I forgot that...but I think I included that in the video).
      And yes, I do think the vinegar helps with the texture as well.
      I'm excited to hear what you think about this cobbler!👨‍🍳👍
