    Totally agree with your analysis. I run a 2.0T 718 and a 3.0 air cooled 911. Best of both worlds in my mind. Love the 718 and still think it sounds good. You are also spot on on the M2, was very close to going for one last summer, super fun drive and it does what my Porsches can’t -carry golf clubs in the boot.

      Yeah the M2 just edges it for me with that extra space in the back, plus it looks so dam good! Cayman potentially more of a drivers car but i like the BMW's thuggish nature :-D.
      Old school 911s are 👌👌👌

    I have a base 718 Cayman as a daily driver and love it. My “weekend” car is a 991 GT3 Touring. The 718 has its own character regarding engine sound which I’m ok with. Nice review .

    Great thoughts. I have a 718 2.0 and 911 996 - the 718 2.0 I bought after selling my 981 Boxster 2.7. Best way for me to sum up the difference between the 981 flat 6 and 718 flat 4 turbo is that the 981 had a better engine characteristic but the 718 is just a much better car overall. Sports exhaust and removing the soundaktor fuse is a must in the 718 to get the best experience from it

      @autoseven7ltd  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I agree totally. I do admit that the car is lacking some drama without the flat6, but it’s just such a good car that I don’t really mind.
      Not seen anything about this fuse! Might look into it. Thanks!

    The 2.5 GTS is simply phenomenal. Don’t ever be put off buying one because of the 4 cylinder turbo . It’s far better than the 981.

      Would love to have a go in the GTS. We have just got a 991 GTS in so will hopefully take that for a spin soon.

    Loved my 3.4 Cayman S, it did sound fantastic, cold start was amazing but tried to avoid too many so not to upset the neighbours. I now have a manual 718 Boxster and have learnt to really like the frequent pops and bangs in Sport mode, and sounds ok in normal mode as well but takes getting used to. Gearing is long though specifically 1st gear. Good review.

      Thanks for the thumbs up. Yeah i do love the 3.4 as well it does have a lot of character.
      I think ultimately, they are all great cars, regardless of the engine. They just have slightly different personalities and that's a good thing.

    Brilliant car, performance wise. A 2.5 with APR tune like I had will smoke the 4 liter 718. However, I hated driving mine because of the droney diesel generator sound, so I sold it. My 987.2 manual Cayman S is a keeper, a delicious car to drive despite the power deficit compared to the flat 4.

      Interesting comment. I do like the fact that people are willing to go back to older cars if they don’t like what manufacturers are selling us these days. We are fortunate that so many great cars were made over the past 30 years.

    Interesting to look at torque characteristics a little further. The 981 NA 2.7 delivers over 85% of its peak torque value across a 2000-7500 rpm range. By contrast, the 2.0 Turbo produces just 70% of its peak torque at 7500 rpm. While the 981 can’t come close in terms of the absolute output, it’s the way in which the torque is delivered (and the way it screams as rpms build) that gives it the sporting driving character that differentiates it from a more big-bore low rpm high torque V8 character (without the soundtrack). There’s also the matter of slight turbo-lag, even though Porsche has done a wonderful job of reducing it. So, indeed, “Is it really the point of a Cayman or Boxster?”, brilliant as it is? By belatedly bringing back the NA flat six, without appreciable performance gains, even Porsche acknowledged the compromises it made with the turbo fours. A very well made video though.

    • @autoseven7ltd
      @autoseven7ltd  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah I did suspect the GTS 4.0 was more of a U turn, but it actually created a nice group of variants within the Cayman and Boxster model range. Just a shame the flat6 costs quite a bit more than the 4 so it does alienate some customers who just want a cheaper N/A base model Cayman.

    Everyone has their opinions, but for me, the whole engine noise issue is way overblown.
    I’ve got a 2022 Cayman S, and no it doesn’t sound like a 4.0L GTS, but I came from a 2018 Audi TTRS, and neither Porsche engine comes close to that car.
    Unless it’s a GT3, I think the engine noise of the 4.0L isn’t worth the price upcharge. BTW - the 2.5L and 4.0L have the same torque numbers.

    I just can’t get past the sound of this engine. It doesn’t sound like a Porsche should. I can’t justify the cost for it. No wonder the 981 are still going for basically msrp 10 years later.

    The flat 4 haters are the TH-cam wannabe influencers and non-owners. There are many satisfied owners of the 718 F4, both road and track. The light weight, suspension, torque, acceleration, sound, interior layout, and handling are excellent. Notice the 718 4.0 can be modified to 4.5. Why? Lack of low and mid-range torque in the N/A 4.0. The turbo 4's takes care of that issue.

    • @autoseven7ltd

      Haha I agree. I did quite a bit of reading up on the views of those people who actually went out and bought them and this is exactly what I discovered.
      Didn’t know you could up the GTS to 4.5. That’s very interesting 🤔

    The emission excuse isn’t true. These cars actually get worse emission than the old 981 flat 6. Look it up. So it’s a lie by Porsche. It’s probably because they wanted to force people to spend more for a 911 or a 4.0 to get the true Porsche sound.

    • @autoseven7ltd
      @autoseven7ltd  ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yep I can’t imagine they save any fuel in the real world. It’s just navigating the rules and regs isn’t it.
      And if you want to save fuel, just buy a Yaris haha

    It’s the Germans obsession with the climate cult lie of carbon warming. they had to increase efficiency to meet government standards and the turbo engines were the only way.
    I own a ‘13 Boxster S. A fantastic roadster, maybe the best ever made. The NA engine is sublime. IMO Cars peaked 10 years ago as far as I’m concerned. I’ll never buy anything built after ‘16 the rest of my life.

    • @autoseven7ltd
      @autoseven7ltd  ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yes I believe this is the case. I’m sure they didn’t want to develop these engines… and as far as I see it, these two models will be the only cars we will ever see these engines in, so all that money in development potentially gone in the bin.

      Having done a bit of research, a lot of people who bought them, loved them.. (see earlier comment from subscriber) but I know where you’re coming from.
      I quite like the stronger feeling engine. It does lose out in the sound department though. Will hopefully do a video on the 911 GTS soon.

    Poor engine the 5-60mph time is 5.1s - thats lag. Track cars are long geared, rally cars are short geared. Porsche owners generally prefer NA cars, all Cup cars are NA.

    • @autoseven7ltd
      @autoseven7ltd  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This is a road car though so maybe the gearing should be somewhere in between?
      Also, I would probably bet that the vast majority of Porsche vehicles sold last year had a turbo hanging off the engine.. That’s just the way things are these days. I’m just happy that NA and turbo cars still exist.

    • @VK6AB-
      @VK6AB- 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@autoseven7ltd Porsche sports cars have historically been track capable from factory and long gears favour broad torque curves, high revs and velocity - the 2L turbo is an example of that its 5mph-60mph time is over 5.1s, that is poor responsiveness and no one buys a Porsche for average or poor performance. In fact the Porsche brand has is being destroyed by endless turbo charged models (yet another six cylinder turbo in a world of 4 and 6 cylinder turbos). As the customer base has expanded the more anodyne the cars - they are less focussed to appeal to a broader audience. The 992 generation being the exemplar for bland an anodyne (with the exception of GT division vehicles and even those have become pastiches). Porsche sports cars have always been long geared because of track and autobahn use - I've owned a lot of Porsche sports cars and the people that go on about long gearing in the main are not owners or don't understand gearing strategy for high revving NA cars.

      I am Porsche owner for 20 years I had many Porsches and I really do not mind that I have 2,0 4 pot Turbo engine. It is flat boxer engine and pulls like typical Porsche. I like the sound too, I have upgaded the exhaust, exchange it with italian Tubi Style and tuned the engine map. Now it does 0-60 in 3,8 sec but the point is that it is such a torque beast that it is the best for ever day drive and I do not need to rew it like a motorbike.

    • @VK6AB-
      @VK6AB- 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@Miroslav-v9m Thats been the point of Porsche engines for decades, high revving NA, cars you have to work in the round not simply rely on torque to dig you out of a hole. Anyhow, glad you're enjoying your car, the Cayman is a great platform.

      I might add here, that Porsche released the 911 S/T as the ‘ultimate 911 for the open road’. Their words, not mine, and they shortened the gearing on it.
