- New Reformation Study Bible Condensed Edition Genuine Leather compared to the Full size Reformation Study Bible Premium Cowhide Leather, both in English Standard Version (ESV) by Dr. R.C. Sproul and Reformation Trust of Ligonier Ministries
I'm excited I saw the review on this earlier and I went ahead and bought it not the condensed version but the thicker version I didn't realize until today that this version even existed so I'm pretty happy
Thanks, man. I appreciate it! Yours was the only video I could find comparing and explaining the two. Very complete and accurate!
Thanks. I picked up the full last month. I’ll be getting the condensed now too. This is the best Bible I’ve ever owned.
Thanks for this video, I just ordered my copy of the Condensed version! My first bible (a Macarthur Study Bible in NKJV) is over 10 years old and the faux leather is literally falling apart. Needed a new bible but was ready to get a straight text version for portability. ESV and The Reformation came recommended by my brother and I am fortunate that the Condensed version was just released. Perfect timing!
THanks for this. I think the condensed will be a great fit for my hubby. Nice to see a side by side.
I have both and use both for different reasons. The full bible is great for study due to all the commentary and features. If one is studying as R.C Sproul suggests we can use the full bible at home and use the condensed for outside . Get both is my recommendation.
I have the condensed version and have just recently ordered the full size. I'm excited to get it in the mail.
You had me at 16” spread and 11 point font 🙌🏼
Man, you could sell anything. Great job!
This is really helpful Rev Bass, thank you.
I'm a poor college student and only bought my regular leather (not premium) Reformation Bible when they had a sale for half off. But I thoroughly enjoy it. I like the idea of the condensed study bible.
I love this study Bible. I have the earlier ESV edition to this edition of the E.S.V. Reformation Study Bible, and I have the current edition of the full text of it with the New King James Version translation, an option that publisher makes to the E.S.V. edition. All are quite wonderful. The only study Bible that I prefer to this is the Lutheran Study Bible (the one of that title from Concordia).
Thanks Caleb! Very, very helpful!
Great video. I use the large one at home for study. I'm thinking of getting the condensed to carry as my church bible.
Very good informative study Bible. I have had the Reformation Study Bible Premium Cowhide Leather in the ESV. I have ordered my Condensed Editon.
Thanks for the video, helped me decide which one to get!
We didn’t see the inside cover. I’m not too worried about ribbons and gilt etc but binding and paper well that is important
Hi Caleb, thanks for this review. I consider purchasing the premium cowhide leather. What material is the lining? How is it made? paste down? Edge lined? And, more important, how does the Bible stand the test of time, tear and wear? I live in Norway, the Bible only is available from the US so shipping is pretty expensive. Good to make sure before ordering.
How I wish they would print the nkjv version again, RC would have approved.
I have both. I can’t believe they got the condensed edition as small as they did. I actually find it hard to read as the font is very small for me.
Hi, I have the bonded leather version and do not like the paper, binding or the leather. Have you done a comparison to see if the paper and ink are of higher quality in these premium leather versions? They look better in the video. Thanks in advance.
I have the fancy full size Montana cowhide version and the paper seems really good, the font is bold and very crisp as well. Not sure on GSM of the paper but it's a good thickness, which is partly why it's so crazy big.
Can you get the premium leather in large print. And should I get it from Ligoneir
Thanks for the review!
I think I’m going to get my friend a Condensed! Great commentary on a portable package for his prison ministry
Thank you for this comparison!
I just ordered one as well. Does the condensed have gilded edges?
Is the cowhide full version like calf-split leather?
So is there less actual footnotes in the condensed?
Hello Caleb,
I have been thinking of picking up The Reformation Study Bible. Could you please tell me, do the notes for the Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21) hold to a Preterist view? I have been trying to look for one that does and if this one does that is what I want.
Thank you for the review. I have to quick questions: 1. if I were to purchase a condensed version do I get all the commentey and extra stuff available to me online, along with the subscription? 2. Are all the commentey, notes, maps et al. available online?
Thanks.
Thanks! Very helpful.
Hi Caleb,
will you be reviewing the HCSB Spurgeon Study Bible?
Very helpful review, Caleb. Would this Bible be suitable for a Reformed (thoroughly) Episcopalian? 🙏 thank you.
@@CalebBass
Thanks! I affiliate with a very Traditional
Reformed Anglican denomination that has cut ties with all of the liberal Episcopalians in the USA and elsewhere. I’m a big fan of JC Ryle , Packer, Stott and others in the historical Reformed Anglican tradition. I have a great appreciation for the Presbyterian tradition but have never been able to make that “jump.” Someday? 🙏
Btw: have you ever watched the documentary “Calvinist.” ? Is it worthwhile to rent?
Are these Bible sewn or glued?
Appreciate this comparison. I own a 2008 version, which is the same as the 2005 ESV original, but it includes maps at the end. Had been considering buying the new condensed version (for portibility), but I'm guessing that the content of notes is fairly similar, and my 2008 may include more notes compared to the condensed. If I bought the new one, it's primarily for the 2016 ESV text rather than the notes.
@@CalebBass no no. The 2005 / 2008 edition is different from the notes in the 2015 revision (the big one you have). Similar notes but different. I'm saying I'd bet there are more notes in my old style one from 10 years ago than in the concensed one.
I'm in a similar predicament. I want a Bible that is not so thick so I can carry it around and read it wherever I go. I'm not sure whether to get a 2008 version or a 2016 version. I wonder how similar/dissimilar the notes are in each. (for example, does the condensed version have less notes than the 2008 version?) I kinda want the 2016 edition of the ESV text, however I like the double-column layout of the 2005 and 2008 versions. So having a comparison on the notes would make the decision easier for me.
Caleb Bass, thank you for your videos!
Hello, can you tell me if this ESV is 2016 version???
Great video. I'm trying to figure out what denominations are reformed. I'm considering going to an SBC church and was wondering if I bought this bible would the theology line up with an sbc church?
@@CalebBass thanks caleb
I ordered both reformation bibles full size and condensed . I also recently got the esv study bible by cross way. But I think I've heard that leans more evangelical?
Where was the Bible actually printed? I have the Reformation Study Bible hardcover and it was printed in China. I was wondering if this higher quality was printed by a more reputable printing company i.e. Royal Jongblood etc.
Are you sure? I have the full RSB (the red hardback version) and it says Printed in the US.
Do they have this in NASB? Great video!
Thank You for this review!
Is the premium Cowhide leather the same as the Montana Cowhide edition?
Thank you. Will ordering the Premium Cowhide tonight. Your review was helpful in me deciding between the ESV Study Bible and the Reformation Study Bible. Plus I love Ligonier Ministries and the teaching of R C Sproul
Here is a link from their official website on some more technical details I found helpful: reformationstudybible.com/questions
Did God intend for these ministries such as ligioner to gain financially like they do? They run the ministrie like a business.
@@CalebBass Well I think that there merchandise is quite expensive tbh and there teaching series you have to pay for? Come on man the Lord said Freely you have received, freely give Matthew 10:8 NKJV
@@CalebBass yea I believe that to I'm a calvinist I agree with there theology and doctrine, wasn't Jesus angry when they turned the temple into a place of merchandise?
1) you dont know what they give...2) they are members of the ECFA..(look it up) 3) 1cor 15:50...4)you can see their annual financial reports on their website. Also are you implying that a pastor-teacher should not be paid for his work in the Word and pulpit?
@@jeremydes100 No that's true I don't know what the give, I don't necessarily think a pastor should preach for free as paul gave instructions about that I believe? However my pastor certainly does not get paid he does it for free and he has taken a few funerals for us in the past and not charged a penny.
Bibles has been overpriced and very expensive for years now, at least in my country 😢
A great Bible but hard to get.
@@tomlavelle8340 I have bought and sold many Bibles over these: these 2 are forever keepsakes :)
Caleb, are either of them sewn?
I totally would have bought the condensed edition if it had the creeds and confessions in the back. No doubt in my mind. I understand why it couldn't contain the theological articles as well as the topical articles and maps, but the condensed edition is such a neutered edition of the RSB that It's not even worth it if you have the 1st edition. Even the Zondervan study bible still has all of the extra articles in the back with the compact edition. I don't see why the condensed edition of the RSB couldn't contain the creeds and confessions. It makes the most sense if you are attend a confessional church to have them in a church size study bible. It would have been the perfect replacement for a Westminster classic reference bible that had the confessions in the back. Major let down in my opinion.
I agree with this. The fact the original Reformation Study Bible had the creeds, confessions and articles is what made it unique amongst the other study bibles which cater to a general Christian audience who, let's be honest, don't really care about creeds other than probably the Nicean and Apostles Creed.
Daric exactly! If only they put them in the condensed edition, I w update be all over that.
The condensed version leaving out the creeds and confessions is a massive disappointment to me.
It's a Calvinist Bible. Get the book, "What love is this" By Dave Hunt.
Sorry ESV is corrupt
Explain please
@@jeremydes100 It’s not corrupt, kjv onlyist are fighting an insignificant small battle, I know dead serious Bible students who read NIV. I truly believe your love will abound with knowledge and discernment with a lot of modern translations and versions( esv, nkjv, csb i liked but gave away, nasb)
