- AEF-DC EAGLE CAM 🐣🐣 RESCUE OF EAGLET DC 4... SEALED WITH A KISS!... Late on the afternoon of April 20 DC4's leg became lodged in a Y-shaped stick on the edge of the nest The eaglet was unable to free itself after many attempts to do so over a considerable period of time. The American Eagle Foundation, in cooperation with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, arranged for the eaglet to be rescued. Initial examination of the eaglet on the ground by a USFWS eagle expert found that the leg did not appear to be seriously injured. The eaglet was taken to a veterinarian at a zoo in Maryland where a physical check-up an radiograph of the leg confirmed that the eaglet is in acceptable condition with the exception of an abrasion and swelling on the leg. DC 4 was returned to the nest late afternoon on April 21.
The entire process of freeing the eaglet’s lodged/stuck leg, getting it checked out/radiographed, and then returning it to the nest took less than 24 hours.

*"During the early evening on April 20th, the right leg of one of the two eaglets (DC4) became stuck in a hole in the stick* *rails of the nest. It was rescued from the nest and assessed by a veterinarian, whereupon agreement was reached that* *DC4 could be returned to the nest. It is with great pleasure we can report that DC4 was successfully returned on Friday,* *April 21. Soon after, the parents came back to the nest and the family was happily reunited"*
In this case it was a *brilliant thing!* What an amazing rescue... made all us eagleholics deliriously (SO) very happy!

If that kiss and lecture doesn't touch your heart strings, then you have no heart anyway. Even the injured baby approached his/her human angel to say "THANK YOU". Yes, angels do come in human form and believers know that. They are there when we need them but it takes a request for them to intervene. All of us that prayed or hoped counted as a special request to help this eaglet. We need a human face to identify this eaglet"s angel. Someone should really find out who he is and tell him how grateful thousands of people appreciate his courage. Climbing a high tree in the rain and severe wind for a tiny creatures is not just a job but "DEVOTION." God Bless him. If he is a dad, he must be a wonderful one.

Amazing how strong eagles build their nests that supports a mans weight. A beautiful shot of the nest at 2:50. My cat is going a little bonkers listening to the eagle's cry for help (or so it seemed to me). Matt Morrison and Marty Levine - you guys rock!! Hi Ambriel, I do believe, when the eagles left the nest last year, after successfully raising two eaglets... personal did reinforce the nest. Oh I agree, the rescuers were amazing... such a fantastic result. Maybe your cat was feeling as distressed as all us watching live... it was heartbreaking to see. Thank god for the *hand of hope!*

Those long sad distress calls at the beginning from Mom (up to 0.58) were so painful to hear. I'm so grateful to all involved for the wonderful rescue and happy return of DC4. You are the most wonderful people for doing this.

What's amazing to me is that nest can support the weight of a human. Eagles are amazing creatures. So happy the little eaglet is back safe with mom and dad and sibling. :-)
I agree, they are the most majestic birds! Love watching them (EVERY DAY) via the eagle web cam. When the eagles left the nest last year, after successfully raising two eaglets... personal did reinforce the nest... looking back in hindsight, with what just happened, thank goodness they did!

they were my own kids

Mom tried to figure out how to free her baby, and sat next to him to comfort him. So heart breaking to hear them both crying. Thanks for saving him.

Both the eaglets continued to thrive and flew off into the great blue yonder. That was last season. Yes, happy to report... Mr President and his First Lady are back again preparing that same nest for another brood!!!
