Is the refreshed 2020 Honda CR-V the BEST crossover SUV?

  • The Honda CR-V has some changes for 2020. Under the hood is the 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 that is producing 190 HP & mated to a CVT transmission. The CR-V's exterior has received a refresh to clean up some of the lines. On the inside there are a couple changes to make driving the CR-V safer and more enjoyable. Is the refreshed 2020 Honda CR-V now better that the Toyota RAV4?

    I really appreciate that you tend to pick mid level trims. So many reviewers only show the top trim levels when in reality most of us are looking for that sweet spot for price.

    My daughter has a 2016 CR-V. It's been a good reliable car for her. She enjoyed a previous Honda sedan but needed more storage space. I was proud of her she did her research and negotiated a fair deal including a good trade in price. She has been very happy with her CR-V. Thanks for an informative review.

    I just purchased a 2022 Honda CR-V EX last week in the same Aegean Blue Metallic color. It is absolutely beautiful. The video does not do the color justice so if anybody is interested in this color and specific model, I highly recommend taking a look at it in person. The color is a bit hard to find now with stock issues but well worth it if you're interested in a CR-V.

I love the blue color is so atractive, it hue changes with the sun, looks really good. I love the exterior and interior design. In front of the car has changed a little bit, but it looks better. I love the dash area, the touchscreen wide and easyly to handle and the bottons control are very friendly handle it. Very comfortable all the seats That´s really good for a EX Trim level. For me Honda in this model CRV is the best. I would buy it. Thanks Joe.

    Hi Joe, like the video. I have a question for you. What is the percentage of savings gas mileage wise of a CVT transmission compared to a regular automatic transmission? I understand that it is important to save gas especially in this economy but I don't think that it's that much of an improvement that you have to sacrifice performance. Correct me if I'm wrong. Especially with the Nissan company and all of the transmission problems that they are experiencing. Anyway thanks for sharing the new CRV.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rodney! That is a very good question. I will try to do some digging!

    • @zarbon700
      @zarbon700 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      CVT is mainly about cutting manufacturing cost. CVT doesn't dramatically improve MPG over a automatic. The slight improvement in MPG of a CVT isn't worth the trade off of weaker performance and reliability. Avoid CVT at all cost.

    • @rodneybough9164
      @rodneybough9164 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the explanation. Unfortunately I bought a 2019 Civic with the CVT transmission not knowing. Mainly because my wife doesn't know how to drive a stick. The CVT isn't all that bad unless you really push it hard. Then if you do you really feel the lag on the simulated shifts. It's as if the transmission doesn't know what to do. You can try using the paddle shifter but it's still not to good. Since I only use my Civic as a daily driver to get back and forth from work it's not really that big a deal. Thanks for the explanation.

    Agreed on the CVT but Acura's RDX turbo engine uses the 10 speed automatic, so I'm sure Honda/Acura want you to upgrade to RDX for those who don't like the CVT. Of course, most CRV drivers aren't flooring the accelerator, so it's moot for most. Cheers and Thanks!

    15+ years ago, I had 6 Hondas in the family. The last one was a 2000 CRV (made in JAPAN!!!) that experienced two breakdowns before it hit 37,000 miles. The first one was fixed after civil war with the stealership - it was under warranty but honda refused to honor it. The second - MAJOR - failure (transmission) occurred @37,000 miles, and honda - both stealership AND headquarters - refused to participate in repairs. Next day I was driving a 4Runner that I still have today with 230,000 miles of severe service with about $500 worth of repairs.
    But the reason I am writing about it - I have not looked back at honda since 2004 - today is because I just saw a CRV at Costco, and the sticker stated that transmission is made in Malaysia, and the vehicle is assembled in Mexico.
    Now, considering my experience with honda made in Japan, try to imagine what this masterpiece holds in stock for you!
    Bottom line: STAY AWAY FROM HONDA - IT'S NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE PRIOR TO 1999 WHEN THE OLD MAN WAS STILL ALIVE!!!

    Late to the party.. again. Love the blue and exterior overall is very nice but that front plastic strip is a little off putting. Interior the faux wood I do not like looks faded. The gear shift placement and look not liking looks outdated. I’ve driven the Forester CVT and honestly don’t have a problem with the latest version 2020, but this one seems to remain more of a droning/noise issue. Nice review Joe. I have 2018 with almost 40,000 miles on it. I average almost 30 miles per gallon. The negative CVT comments are nonsense. You don't even notice it unless you accelerate from light to light without the radio on. It has not had a single mechanical problem. Power criticisms are also nonsense. I've had it up to nearly 100 mph and it cruises and tracks extremely well. Acceleration into the flow of traffic on interstates is effortless.

    Awesome review. The Mazda 3 has a wide open button on the gas pedal. It'd be cool if Honda used that to determine simulated gearing vs full CVT optimum acceleration. This might help people tolerate a CVT more, while not holding back the technology.
