I bought the Rodecaster Duo to replace my GOXLR and it's a beautiful little machine the sound quality is noticeably better than the GOXLR, I know it's a subjective statement. However I did return the Rodecaster Duo and went back to the GOXLR for one simple reason, the Rodecaster can't do submixes and that was deal breaker for me. Rumour on the street is that will be fixed in the very near future with a patch according to the Rode Software development map.

More reasons we need to have companies to build their software/firmware in mind in that if they ever closeup/go under then open source software can replace it.
Probably won't happen till the EU mandates it, but would be a huge proponent to stopping unnecessary e-waste, while also getting more people in to programming and modding.

Picked up a Rodecaster Duo and it is not a replacement for the GoXLR. The sliders/faders are assigned to a USB input. Which means you can't control your game, system, music, voice chat, mic volume, individually. The only workaround I was able to find is to connect a second usb-c from PC to Rodecaster Duo and assign my music to that input. So my music was controlled by that fader, and everything else was controlled by the other fader. Ulltimately I ended up returning the Rodecaster Duo because it just missed the mark.

Gaming console does not work properly if you connect it with a usb-c. You will have to get an audio extracter at least for the PS5 and a balance 3.5mm to 2XLR Male Stereo cable and connect it to 2XLR female ports on the RC2. Great thing is you can combine the 2 ports to 1 knob on the device through the software and is very easy to do. Great thing is you do not need a hum destroyer to get the noise out. This works very well for my 3 device setup as I do not have to switch cables or do anything extra. With all the audio features to process the sound the way I want it connected to my sub and 2 studio monitors, it is like i was in a new world that I was missing out on. LOL

People should also take a look at the Yamaha AG08 too, as a GoXLR alternative.

  •  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I might be a little bit bias here, as I helped getting the opensource GoXLR Utility working on Windows (yes, the windows version is the port from the Linux one).
I would say, use the stable firmware, it should be possible to flash back if your on the beta. I don't think the firmware will be opensource, and there is some encryption when flashing, making it hard to reverse engineer without support from tc-helicon.
For the opensource GoXLR Utility, the device has never been more alive. Everything is controlled through an API, that means that everything you can do from the app. A plugin can also do.
So now it's theoretical (until a plugin exists) possible to control the device from not only Stream Deck, but also OBS and similar. And you will also be able to use multiple plugins (not like the official one that was limited to just one).
The opensource version also a lot better when it comes to accessibility, and can now be used by blind or visually impaired people.
For the Windows version, it does require the official tc-helicon drivers (Linux and MacOS does not). And you cannot run it at the same time as you run the official GoXLR App (as the official one gets confuced and crashes).
All in all... the device has been "dead" before, and only time will tell if this is the case for now.
However... I understand the skepticism as there is basically just one developer on the opensource version at this point. I would suggest all that starts using the free opensource version to consider sponsor the developer (I do monthly), but that's not a requirement.

All I'd love is an XLR interface with the ability to run custom VST plugins on the device. I know that would require additional hardware because they wouldn't be able to run on the DSP as most of the time that's quite specialized hardware, but just adding in what is effectively a microcomputer with just the capabilities of running VST plugins, even if limited to just a couple and under a certain size, would be very nice. It's often necessary to still add further effects to a voice other than just the typical noise gate, EQ and compression provided on most DSPs. Not that running a couple VST's cause that much work for the PC, but it's not completely negligible if you're already close to bottlenecked.
For the Rodecaster Pro 2, they have released the Duo recently which is 2 XLR ports instead of 4 and 4 faders instead of 6. It's $200 cheaper at 499 instead of 699, still on the high end but you still get all the features as long as 4 physical faders and 2 XLR ports are enough.
The Avermedia Nexus is getting better with each update, I still find it lacking a bit from what I've seen.
As for the Beacn Mix and Mix Create I agree that most of the functionality can be achieved with a Streamdeck+ if you have one, however you'd need to find a separate solution for a routing table. the Routing table in Beacn software is in my opinion the nicest to use routing table I've seen in a software yet, and hopefully other companies take note of how intuitive and easy it is to use without lacking flexibility, I just seriously, seriously wish they have just added an XLR port to it, the idea of getting it alongside another interface is a bit silly. For USB microphones it would be fine, but for XLR setups you need an XLR interface along with the Mix. Honestly I wish they'd just release a version of the Mix Create that basically just took the internals from the Beacn Mic and connected it to XLR instead of the analog signal directly from the capsule, it'd be nice to use the Beacn software and features (for example the noise removal, not noise gate, which I haven't seen really anywhere else) on any XLR microphone.

Wave XLR let’s you run VSTs

    • @DreadKyller
      @DreadKyller ปีที่แล้ว

@@EposVox I meant on the device, not just in the processing chain. I like how interfaces with built in DSP's help to offload the processing off your device. While the Wave XLR allows you to run VSTs prior to the sound being emitted to the output, those VSTs as far as I can tell run locally, not on the device, meaning the processing takes up CPU resources. I'm just saying I'd like a device that allows you to upload VSTs to the device and have the device run a VST host that processes the audio before being sent to the PC.
Compared to DSP which is designed to be very fast, effectively running highly optimized simple math on a stream of data with very little latency between input and output, VSTs can be quite intensive sometimes and may introduce a sizable amount of delay, so it most likely wouldn't be able to be monitored effectively without hearing the delay.

GoXlr should legit open source everything they have, their clients deserve to be able to have that kind of thing especially since they paid so much money on a product that promised alot and didnt deliver.

I know a lot of these kinds of mixers/interfaces have features that streamers and creators love, but I've always found the interfaces offered by established companies with a track record and history of quality audio engineering hardware design and making to be much better performance wise such as quality preamps and much more reliable. I went with an Audient iD14 mk2 a year ago and have no regrets. It lacks some of the not really critical fluff style features of streamer style mixers, but it's got a damn good preamp and has been solid, plus cost less. I wish GoXLR users the best, but a healthy level of suspicion for new companies and products can help save future headaches

I use Deckboard app (its free) and Arturia Minifuse 2 interface for mic. GoXLR was too expensive and too big for my table. Your recommendations for Razer, Elgato and especially Rode (for 700€ :O) .... come on, you know that those are overpriced stuff. Elgato is overpriced, Razer is just garbage rebranded AliExpress stuff, Rode is for professionals.

I valued having the built in sound pad a little more than submixing so what I ended up picking up recently just with how approachable the cost was compared to the GoXLR was the Zoom Podtrak P4. Also being a podcaster, I can also enjoy having the built in recording functionality on top of 4 XLR ports each with phantom power and the ability to link my phone as an input and output as a USB interface.

I know this will get lost in the comments but here are some answers for those of you worried: I spoke to the SweetWater rep, who works close with TC Helicon and their company and I brought this to his attention. He spoke with the guys at TC Helicon and its not as extreme as this video puts out. They still have support and development for all of their products, including GoXLR, they did have a few offices close up in Canada, but not ALL of development and support. They will be moving forward with it for some time still, of course until the next model comes out of the GoXLR. So for those of you that are worried, you don't need to be 😁 hope this clears some air for people.

I feel like this is a weird video considering that the Go-XLR is still amazing hardware thats yet to be matched for its price and feature set. Like if you need what the GoXLR can do there is still nothing like it. I understand that the fear of lack of software support sucks but ive seen projects centered around less popular products go a lot futher. Honestly I have a lot more faith in it now that the software is open source, than a year ago.
My only concern is the firmware, which hopefully they would consered making open source too. Its a big ask given the discord post but you never know. This is a story we dont know the ending too and to asume the worst rather than hope for the best idk.
The video came across more like the obituary in the news paper rather than an appreciation of what the product was. It really was a one of a kind thing, this lighning in a bottle that got the short end of the stick due to basically no markeing. The community has held out for something that can replace it, thats why the hype behind beacon was so high only to come crashing down.
No hate, just the vibes came across extremely gloom and doom.

Damn...welp, I guess that's the kick in the pants I needed to move on to the Wave XLR. I stopped streaming and making content a few years ago but the GoXLR was great for my remote work and the content I create in the context of my job. However, ever since I upgraded to Win 11, the whole thing turned...clunky. The Stream Deck plugin always needs a few restarts of the GoXLR app to kick in. Even the app itself seems to have a delay between switching profiles and them registering on the device. I've been itching to switch to a more software based solution and the Wave is perfect. RIP I guess....

What and excellent and very upsetting public service announcement. 6 months ago I started using Wavelink (Thanks to EposVox's videos) between my two PCs, I put my GoXLR back in its box and hadn't thought about it till now. Wavelink is a digital mixing board, It's 2023, I am not gonna go turn an analog knob on physical device like a freaking caveman. That being said I am still going to watch every product Mr.Vox gets his hands on... And possibly buy one... Balls in your court Rode. Lol.

I would've kept using a GoXLR if the USB-B wasn't so awful. I tried a couple different cables and none of them worked. Every time I went to the discord to talk about it, they never once blamed their own product and just suggested trying other cables. How could it be that even the cable supplied with the unit would not fit snug and cause it to disconnect if my desk made the slightest movement?
Either way, really happy with my Elgato Wave XLR. It is a much more stable product and even supports VST plugins through Wave Link. It is really great.

Weeeeell, Shiiiieeeeet. 🙃 That explains literally all of my conversations with anyone (formerly) on the GO XLR team back when I was trying to find out how to do Submixing. I'm glad I've had it for over a year at least. Still... that's an expensive purchase that I hope lasts a few more years before the software craps out.

why can't new products make it easy on console gamers (streamers) to route their party chat to a separate channel and easily route audio the way goxlr does?? literally the only reason I haven't gotten rid of it. i have the rcp2 but the table routing is hardly user friendly and doesn't allow chat audio to be separated even with their routing table that is only for use via USB. how hard is it to just clone goxlr routing app??
