  • The GoXLR is dead, the device that every single streamer wanting a professional XLR audio setup would buy for the past 4 years is now a ticking time bomb waiting for one windows update to make it a very expensive paperweight…
    This means we need to find a new mixer that can do everything the GOXLR can do and more, it needs to handle demanding microphones like the Shure Sm7b, it needs powerful EQ for buttery crisp vocals, it needs silly voice effects, and multiple programmable tracks for perfect audio control, that was the journey I set out on…
    But, little did I know this would mean months of research, experimenting with dozens of different software, microphones, mixers, and wasting hundreds of dollars, but now, I think I’ve found it, the device that will do EVERYTHING the GoXLR did, and more for half the price.

    Why Should You Upgrade A Microphone First?
    We are assuming that you have a PC that can run a decent stream quality, then the most important purchase is a good microphone, if someone drops by and you are streaming 720p or even 480p they are usually okay with it, but if your audio hurts their ears or doesn’t sound right I promise you they will leave.
    There are plenty of affordable USB mics that sound amazing, and you can take them to even better heights when you apply the right filters that are free and come with OBS and Slobs, our recommendation in this video is the Samson Q2u.

    8:33 What Is Sub Mixing or Dual Bus Mixing?
    Why The Samson Q2u Is The Best Microphone for Streamers
    Starting with the basics, the Samson Q2u is a Dynamic Mic, not a condenser microphone, essentially Dynamic microphones are less sensitive than Condenser microphones, which means sometimes they need to be closer and might require a bit more gain, but these aren’t bad things.
    Dynamic mics are better in untreated or amateur rooms, like home offices, bedrooms, bathrooms aka your Stream rooms. They are also better at dealing with background noise.
    Cardioid means it handles sound right out the front here, and doesn’t pick up sound from behind, or well under it, it still gets audio from the sides but not much. Not all mics are like this, one of the more popular Mics you all know like the Blue Yeti Snowball which can be omnidirectional, which, means it picks up audio from all around.
    What Mixer Should New Streamers Buy?
    This device has somehow snuck under everyones radar, despite it being made by a professional audio company, despite it being able to do EVERYTHING the GoXLR could, and despite it being half the price of the GoXLR, is the Roland Bridgecast.
    The Bridgecast sells for $420 AUD, so about $250USD, making it REALLY competitive since its two main competitors are the GoXLR which the full size still costs roughly 800AUD, and the Rodecaster Pro II, which is anywhere between 900 - 1200AUD.
    Now, you’d think this means the little device is going to lack a lot of what those two tools have, but it is actually the opposite, for example, It provides 75db of gain for your microphones, whereas the Rodecaster Pro ii and GoXLR do 76db and 72db respectively.
    And, Much like the GoXLR, and Rodecaster, it has full voice effects, such as reverb, pitch shifting, etc. I’ll again, cover this more later.
    The BridgeCast comes with EQ and mic adjustment tools are all the expected ones, compressors, noise reduction, de-essers, etc, and it is also a dual bus Mixer… this means two separate audio mixes, so one can be sent to you, and then a completely different mix to your stream individually.
    The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

    For those curious, the GoXLR isn't actually "dead" but they closed their doors on the software side, and went silent for 6-8 months, then a few days ago released an update that was causing major issues to users PC's and GoXLR devices. It's a bit of a wild ride right now, and it has become the consensus we should all try step away from the tool when we need to, but hey, the BridgeCast is literally my perfect mixer so I'm happy.

      If I didn't already have the Bridgecast and the GoXLR wasn't half dead, I would probably have switched. Why? Just because I don't like the headset port placement on the Bridgecast; having it behind the device bothers me a little bit. Also, I prefer sliders rather than knobs; it feels more "natural" to me somehow...

      @@TheSilverFX I don't know if it's half-dead anymore. They do have a small team working on the software again, which is a good thing to keep the goodwill going.

    Wow, I looked for one solution (the problem considering the GoXLR) and your video even gave me a second issue's solution with you mentioning the submixes you can send seperately to yourself and the stream. That's extremely helpful to me, because as a blind person I always have my screenreader (a voice software which reads out text information on screens) talking into my ears and into my audio mix and looked for a way to switch it off only for viewers in a livestream so they're not annoyed by a constantly talking background voice which they don't need. Now I know a way to both make streaming accessible for me while still being able to keep the audience unbothered. Thanks a lot and have a great day!

    So it's sonar with a physical hud that you can control and place on your desk. Pretty cool, I think this is a good upgrade option for the free sonar software users when they can finally afford to spend money on a mixer

    Yo thanks for the heads up on this homie. Honestly, I never really liked the goxlr. I bought it when I was trying to stream and as a musician and audio guy, I hated it. It felt cheap; not knowing if I was pressing the pads fully. The lack of intimate detail on the internals and deep-down device specs was saddening enough for me. It kind of caused me to not use 80% of it anyways. I use a slider or two and the mute button. I've never been big on the voice changer or sampler, as soundboard "content" or "humor" isn't my strong suit lol. Sounds like I'm going to be selling the goxlr and buying the roland... Also big props for the growth man.

    I was pretty keen for the device after watching this video, and I was surprised I had not heard of it. Unfortunately, it has like 2-3x the amount of "internal noise" as the GoXLR. It has a persistent background hiss even without a mic plugged in. I believe every device will to some degree, but the GoXLR's isn't audible at all, while I can hear it distinctly from the Roland Bridge Cast. I feel like I am cursed with knowledge, as if I had never had the GoXLR I wouldnt know it can be better! The Roland Bridge Cast is better in every single way, I hope the support gets back to me to tell me it is just my device that is faulty. It is impressive how hard the GoXLR has been for others to top considering it is 5 years old now.

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That’s so strange, I have zero background noise on mine, even with the Shure Sm7b. Well, there’s a bit if I have my air con on because Queensland hahaha
      But yeah, Both with and without a cloudlifter. I found my GoXLR was far noisier in general, but most don’t notice it because they tend not to push the gain up on mics as much as it actually needs.
      EDIT: if it helps, I am using a cloudlifter on mine currently, 9db of gain on setup, and I am a fist or so from the mic off axis. My compressor adds 5db of gain as makeup. And I tend to project quite a lot compared to most streamers.
      I use a noise gate, that’s fairly standard and I have my line outs and outputs in general turned all the way down to avoid extra white noise.
      But yeah, pretty standard setup for any mixer and I used something similar on the GoXLR.
      Not discounting your experience either, just explaining my setup and saying I hope it’s resolved.

    Do you use the Roland software at the same time as the Sonar software you’ve been talking about recently in past videos? Or does this software do the same thing as Sonar?
    I see that we get the submixing, which is fantastic… but for multi track recording in OBS, does it split all of our audio into independent sources (like Mic, Game, Music, etc) or does it package them all into one “Broadcast Stream Mix” like the GoXLR does?
    I have had a lot of frustration with the GoXLR trying to get multi track recording to work cleanly. Once you take an audio source off of the broadcast stream mix so you can have it on its own recording track in OBS, you can’t control the volume for stream with the sliders anymore, which sucks. I’m hoping this is different!

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Sonar is the virtual beginner way of doing this, it’s less reliably but free and works with USB mics.
      And yes as I show in the video is does the same splitting as the GoXLR, but I felt simpler without the routing table and instead focused on just a sub mix and virtual channels for routing apps.
      I had no issues splitting all 6 tracks up for recording,

    A new PC upgrade rendered my GOLXR Mini dead. Moving to the Bridge Cast I had a really hard time stopping sound from my game and aux channels from being heard by my friends on chat. Setting the Input of my chat to Mic and all other Inputs to Personal fixed that but I dont see ANY reason the sound from any channel should be heard by any other channel. Stream, Line out and Phone are the only outputs that should heard all channels.
    With Chat and Aux's Inputs both set to Mic, even if Discord Mic was muted (from within Discord), my friends could still hear the sound of my TH-cam outputting to Aux.
    Once I got over that issue after 6 hours of head banging, I love the Unit. I love the built in Line out for speaker use as with the GOLXR Mini, I used a splitter/knob device to do the same.

    • @StreamScheme

      There is an answer, you’re just probably too new to understand when you read the answer :)
      The Quadcast is just an overpriced USB mic that plugs directly into a PC, the BridgeCast is for XLR microphones.
      The Quadcast sadly is just an expensive basic condenser mic, if you ever want to upgrade to professional equipment you’ll need to buy all new mics.
      For now, look at my video on steelseries sonar called “how to seperate audio” that will work with the Quadcast.
      And if you ever want a much better mic for cheap, that will work as USB or XLR, check out my video on the Samson Q2u, called “the best mic is only $99”

      Sadly I can’t recommend the Elgato tools, I’ve had too many issues with them in the past.

      I know some don’t agree with that, and that’s okay.
      I would always prefer a solid mixer, like the BridgeCast, and a solid XLR mic.
      That said, unless you’re a professional you likely don’t need a full XLR setup. You’ll like have the same, or even better audio for you if you just bought a Samson Q2u and used a USB setup done right. I have videos on the Samson. I’d start there.

    24 Bit is not floating, it’s a different format called fixed point. You get about 6 dB per bit with fixed point so 32 Bit fixed point would be 192 dB
    Floating point uses an entirely different system, like scientific notation, that allows it to represent bigger and smaller numbers using less digits, hence 32 Bit Float is 1,528 dB

      Moved to TH-cam on a side channel I didn’t advertise so I didn’t get bombarded with streaming questions when I went live.
      Then I got really sick, and couldn’t go live for a bit and then I had a baby! But I’ll be back live in the new year, just needed a few months off so I focused on releasing videos on my side channel and here until I recovered:)

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      As I say in the video, this has all of the required and expected audio processing tools.
      You shouldn't need to add any further VST's in the audio chain.
      A professional Mixer has them built in.

      @JamesDavisMakes 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @StreamScheme

      Exactly right, James. Professional tools mean professional features, no extra plugins or software needed.

    • @EddyNottingham
      @EddyNottingham 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Woah there, you're swinging the word "professional" around like Tim Cook at an Apple Keynote!
      Upwards compression for game audio would be nice!
      However, I was asking about VST support as having on device DSP is great but having the freedom to chose whether to use on-board or external effects is obviously even better and opens up a device like this to way more use cases.
