This really makes me think badly of TC Helicon as a company. They put out THE audio device for streamers, youtubers, podcasters, etc. and absolutely *dominated* the market right from the start. And now, they're just like "yeah, who cares?" Wow. I'll use my GoXLR until I can't anymore, because I love the damn thing. I'll be sad to have to replace it, but I appreciate Harris for showing us all these options.
they make mostly hardware not software, once the have sold a hardware product they don't have to do anything to support the customer unless that product breaks in the warranty period. Software probably gave them high overheads as they would have had to have kept a team or even a single developer to keep the thing working.
The "streaming boom" is kindof over at this point, and whatever dollars are left in the market are being sucked up by Elgato and some of the more dedicated players like RODE and what not.
@@DamienLavizzoI think there will be another boom though. But not for another 2 years. New stuff will start coming out again which will push the boundaries
Try to read on maintaining a lucrative company instead of jumping into conclusion of "they don't care". Every big tech and small are having massive layoffs and resizing to not file for bankruptcy, but as a consumer you just think selfishly.
@@outrunpilot nah that’s a massive L take. GoXLR is nearly $500 and it’s not even 5 years old. They’ve barely made any quality of life changes to the product or improved it. So it’s not selfish, that’s just generally expected of a tech/audio company.
"The post made by an ex employee who was a DEV of TC-Helicon, the company released their Canada support department who was working on a version of the GOXLR software to be compatible with Linux and Mac. After the team got fired, a DEV went on to say that the GOXLR software will no longer be getting support and the post picked up steam on social media forcing TC-Helicon to release a statement on their twitter page letting people know a few things: From TC-Helicon's Twitter post: -Your GoXLR is not Dead! -Their gaming product line will still get support. -Its true that they released their Canada team but doesnt mean they are no longer supporting the software, just means they are changing dev teams. The DEV who made the post with the news of the team getting fired created a discord and has now released an open source version of the software which is a carbon copy of the original GoXLR software with additional features. People in the discord are allegedly making donations for said DEV to keep working on the software for future Windows Updates. Not sure what the legalities of using a proprietary software to be released as open source when TC-Helicon is still selling GoXLR Minis and GoXLR on their site and on Amazon, you would think if it was discontinued it would be pulled from those sites. Something to note here, the GOXLR has NOT had an update in a about a year and a half and its still working just fine...so dont jump the gun just yet and wait for TC-Helicon to actually say that they wont support the product any longer before you go out and spend hundreds of dollars on new hardware. Now, say that TC-Helicon doesnt come through with their support and your GoXLR no longer works...then look at the second option which is the DEV who released the open source software...again, not sure what the legalities of that is as of right now since TC-Helicon has not officially discontinued products and they are still being sold...but just keep your options open. If neither one of those options work, then yes, take a look at this video and purchase a new piece of hardware that offers you the best options and that is within your budget...but dont buy something before a final announcement has been made by the company, your GoXLR may still have plenty of years to go." This is a comment from @madskizophrenik, I'm just passing it on.
I think companies should be required to release the source code to the device after discontinuing them. The software support is what makes the device usable in the first place and if the code were released, the product wouldn’t have to die.
The reliance upon the software was the biggest reason I stayed away from the GoXLR. An analog USB mixer is a fraction of the price, and will only stop working when the hardware has a physical failure.
@@OracleTarotBenjihe doesn't control what a company does with it's products. 1-2 years ago, nothing competed with the goxlr price range. That's rapidly changed.
The Wave XLR is an excellent little device I think for a single pc setup whether you’re streaming, making videos, or on voice calls/meetings because it’s very simple and effective like you mentioned. If elgato made a stream deck ++ or something and added an xlr connection to the back idk how anything could beat it
Elgato will make a physical audio mixer with dials and faders and LCD keys, basically a fully customizable version of GoXLR but better and with wave link software. It's only a matter of time. For anyone like me who needs a mixer, just buy a Stream Deck + for now for audio control and use wave link and wait for Elgatos next move, they will do it at some point
Do you have a dual pc setup? I just bought the stream deck plus and am wondering if I need to to get the chat link cable well to get the audio running properly from one PC to the other??
@@SpuddyIRL the open-source project isn't official, it's built by a few dedicated community devs as a way to preserve usage of the hardware cross-platform (Windows, Linux, MacOS).
I think you need to update the video with a pinned comment. The GoXLR by TC Helicon is still receiving updates and will continue to get updates. Yes the team was laid off, but it's still getting updates.
I think the Rodecaster Duo is probably the one Id choose. I had a full size GoXLR from day one and I was honestly upset when the mini came out because I never really used all the dials and gags the full size one came with. The Rodecaster Duo still has that gimmick potential, but also in a smaller form factor it looks like, and Rode is an industry standard in audio. So glad this video came out, was set on the the full size Rodecaster Pro II because I didn’t know the Duo was a thing. Thanks Harris, saved me $200 👍🏻
I'm personally using a Rode PodMic hooked up to a Yamaha ZG01 in tandem with a Stream Deck Plus. I was using a Wave:3 for a while, and I absolutely fell in love with the Wave:Link suite, but I ultimately wanted an XLR setup and had my eye on the GoXLR for years. Ultimately, I was your review that convinced me to go for the ZG01 instead. The biggest draws for me were the onboard output swapping between headphones and speakers, surround sound emulation through stereo, and the integrated HDMI Switcher. My monitors at my desk are only 1080p, so I don't need to worry about the limitations of HDMI 2.0 for the passthrough. As for audio routing, I have all my game audio coming directly through the Game output to take advantage of surround sound, while all other audio passes through Wave Link. I can then adjust the levels of each channel as I see fit, then send the monitor mix to the ZG01, while also still keeping the Stream Mix that goes to OBS.
Just got myself a Mackie DLZ Creator. I use Linux, so being able to record audio to a USB stick, as the USB C drivers are for Windows only. Amazing mic sound which I can tweak if need be in Audacity. I paid £769.00 pounds for mine and am blown away with the performance of it. So much better than the GOXLR ever was.
Very nice, it's looks awesome! I have the Roder Rodcaster II and I got rid of my GoXLR about a month ago. The sound quality is superior and I know that Mackie has to be amazing. I love the 10" screen it has.
My use case for the GoXLR might be kinda niche, yes its an audio interface for my XLR mic but I also like the hardware volume controls, the multiple sound output devices and the ability to have headphones and speakers connected at the same time. I don't stream anymore but I love the GoXLR for the features that it left me with that I've gotten used to enjoying. I'll probably keep using it while it still continues to work ok. Unsurprisingly not many people cover which device or combination of devices will give me this weird combination of features I enjoy. That's ok, I'll figure it out, good video! I was very sad when I heard TC-Helicon was throwing the towel in.
For those on a budget, the Fifine Gaming Audio MIxer is essentially a GoXLR without software for $45. Can even do two PC setups, has custom sound pads and several voice changer options. Also includes faders for the control options.
Tbh, I would go with elgato. I've tried multiple rodecaster pro 2 and they all have an issue with the screen having lines on it. Their quality control is not the best and if you contact support don't expect to get an answer in like a week or maybe even more.. Terrible. The beacn one, I didn't even had an interest with. Because if they abandoned the go xlr, what are the chances that they will not abandon another project.
The Beacn is made by a different company all together that's why. They're just the same R&D guys who made the GoXLR. The whole IDEA of Beacn is they can continue what the were Denied with TC Helicon. The entire R&D department of TC Helicon were essentially fired after the GoXLR Mini was released.
There should be a law that whenever this kind of thing happens, all of their stuff gets open sourced so the community can maintain it should they want to
I hope this message finds you well! I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for the incredible content you produce. Your videos have been a constant source of inspiration and knowledge for me. I admire your expertise and the effort you put into creating valuable tutorials. I have been following your channel closely and noticed your previous video on connecting and programming the GoXLR within the Windows settings. It was incredibly helpful and detailed, guiding viewers through the entire process step by step. Your approach makes complex tasks seem much more accessible, and I genuinely appreciate your teaching style. I recently purchased a Rodecaster Pro 2 and would like to connect it to my PC while optimizing the Windows settings for the best performance. As someone who values your expertise, I was wondering if you could create a similar video for the Rodecaster Pro 2. A step-by-step guide on how to connect the device to the PC and program it within the Windows settings would be immensely valuable to me and many other viewers. I understand that creating such content requires time and effort on your part, but I believe it would greatly benefit your audience, including myself. Your ability to break down complex processes into easy-to-follow instructions sets you apart, and I trust your guidance. Thank you for considering my request, Harris. Your videos have been instrumental in expanding my knowledge and helping me navigate the world of audio equipment. I eagerly look forward to any future content you create, and I appreciate your dedication to delivering high-quality tutorials. Keep up the fantastic work, and thank you once again!
I'm very happy you made this video. I'm planning to get a mixer along with other things to start streaming/content creating, and you listing out and explaining mixers one by one really helped me out, also making me help find in my price range, so again thank you for this!
@@unlockthepicture I just got one 6 days ago, and while for damn sure is it scary and overwhelming trying to grips with it And there is one thing about It I don't like (getting the sliders to work in a set way for my OBS twitch streams, but that's more my OCD), overall I am VERY happy I got it! Has elevated my Shure SM7B so much!
I have a Go-XLR it's been great but there are things that I wanted so I appreciate you bringing these options up I need a more of a hardware upgrade myself It's paid for itself so not worried about it losing support but it's time to move on either way. Anyone want to buy a lightly used go xlr? 🤣🤣
One thing I never see mentioned in videos about audio devices like this is console and pc audio compatibility. That was something the goxlr did that to my knowledge no other device does without having to jump through hoops. As somebody who does not care about streaming but plays primarily on pc it would be nice to have a device that could route my audio from my consoles and pc all to one output so I could hear it at once. Outside of the goxlr I don't know of one that does and maybe one of the ones in this video work that way but its never brought up and there is no documentation online to suggest it will work. Would be nice to get a video on the best way to get console and pc audio going at the same time.
I've been running a Roland Bridge Cast for a little bit - Absolutely killer piece of kit as an audio interface, an application volume controller, and the ability to split my output to stream and to myself to have the perfect balacne
Personally I love the roland bridge cast, I got it so I could use both speakers and headphones easily, and it gives you a great amount of control with extremely easy setup. Personal fav, would recommend especially for music creators, however I recommend getting an xlr splitter or use a diff mic and use a different interface with a bit wider of a freq response so you can get a natural recording too
I'm considering purchasing one of these microphones, but now I'm confused about which one to buy. Please help me decide: 1. Shure SM57 Dynamic Instrument Microphone 2. RØDE PodMic USB Versatile Dynamic Broadcast Microphone With XLR and USB Connectivity for Podcasting, Streaming, Gaming, Music-Making, and Content Creation 3. Elgato Wave DX - Dynamic XLR Microphone, Cardioid Pattern, Noise Rejection, Speech optimized for Podcasting, Streaming, Broadcasting, No Signal Booster Required, Works with Any Interface, for Mac, PC 4. FIFINE XLR Dynamic Microphone, Vocal Podcast Microphone with Cardioid Pattern, Studio Metal Mic for Streaming Voice-Over Dubbing Video Recording, Black-K669D 5. Rode PodMic Cardioid Dynamic Broadcast Microphone, Black
I'm still really happy with the Avermedia Nexus tbh. Especially since they added a routing table. Been getting consistent updates too. Does everything I want, and works as a solution for 2 PC setups too. I feel like it got a bad rap on launch. The Stream Deck+ has some unbeatable value for anyone wanting to use their own interface or their own USB mic too.
We need an open source software that is able to communicate with all these devices. Since they probably all communicate via MIDI, its a shame there isn't much software like this.
Interesting. This is exactly why I like oldschool mixers with USB interfaces Like the Mackie Pro FX series, Behringer Xynex series, or the Yamaha MGXU series. They don't have as many streamer specific functions but they will last a very very long time because they are just audio interfaces. dual functionality because they are also fully functional mixers without a computer so they can be sold easily. Truth be told, I am a little curious about Mackies new M-caster series that they just released. Looks a lot more affordable than the DLZ and more simple. The M-Game RGB mixers also look interesting. There's one specifically for two PC setups and one for solo setups. I've not seen the brand before but it would seem that they know a thing or two about what streamers are trying to achieve. But I don't know much about the brand as a whole. Traditional audio is more in my skillset.
I've had the Beacn Mic/StreamDeck combo since your last video you did mentioning them. I moved on from a GoXLR and RodePodMic to it and absolutely loved it. So much less space taken up and works amazingly IMO - big big vouch for that setup
As an audio guy I would say go with Rode, Mackie, Yamaha, Tascam, or even Behringer if you are on a budget. I have used all of these brands though not their streaming focused tools. The reason I recommend these companies however is they have been around for a while and music audio focused companies tend to support their products just about forever. Though it will also depend on how much you want to learn the hardware and how much direct software integration you need. There are few all in one options from these brands and some of the ones that are out there are pricy. Though if you dont mind a few extra devices on your desk then they all have a huge array of mixer options for all budgets to chose from that you can pair with some form of macro pad like the stream deck (which is really all it is with some focused software support). One thing to look out for though with audio company hardware is the USB interfaces. If it has a USB-C you are likely good with that one but if they are USB-A many of them will likely be 2.0 (and rarely 1.0) unless they are very new products, or it actually says otherwise. Also be sure to look up what a device actually does as there are may DAW controllers that look like they would do what a stream deck and mixer would do but they can only control a DAW and likely will not allow you to do what you are looking for. Though may still be useful when you editing your audio for none live videos.
I have a Rodecaster P2, and I have to say I'm still learning how to fully use it as I have no other experience with hardware like this. But, what it can do and what I've learned about it so far is amazing. An absolutely awesome piece of hardware!
What I would really love to see are good alternatives for the VoiceFX/sampler features of the GoXLR. I make such use of the sampler aspect especially and voicemod for me has such a delay to it it makes a lot of it unusable for me.
Dude! Nice review but seriously, my Tascam Mixcast 4 blows all these away and it's just $380. It's got great Preamps, recording right to SD memory, affects, EQ, tons of gain, compression many many inputs and outputs. Just being able to record has saved me from AT&T after I cancelled my account and they still billed me for months after. After getting a call from their goons wanting money, I played the recording of me cancelling the call and it totally shut 'em down. Consider doing a review of it and you'll feel my elation with the product. Thanks man!
I feel this is quite an extreme take since the linux developer released go xlr utility and it has all features from beta and is open source so has endless opportunity's through the community now. Also does beacn not suffer a lot latency issues for dual pc set ups
The funny part is you could always have faders in the past. Example for me is the Soundcraft MTK12 (or 22 if you need), which is a 12 channel (6 pair stereo) mixer. This is "old" by your standards but is ana amazing pro level board and was prices in the $350 range when it came out. Every channel, every mix, and every output shows up in windows as it's own audio source both in and out. It's insane. I use it to run two PCs (gaming and recording), with condenser microphones, patching to both discord and game chat from the same mic(s), sound source from either PC for backgorund music and what have you, including patching in discord chat and others... and effects loop, mix minus options, and so on. GoXLR and others are the "simple" choices, but not always the most flexible choices.
No offense Harris, but you need to do your research better.. it is crazy to me, how the Roland Bridge Cast is not mentioned, literally better than all mentioned in this video, for game streamers & content creators, it's by no means perfect, but it is TRULY amazing & at a great price. So yes, you definitely missed an important one.
@@Auroz You are right, I literally watch the entire thing, but missed that. Nonetheless, he mention it for 2 seconds, it deserves way more attention. I take back the critism of Harris though, I didn't notice. Hope he will cover it in the future though, I own it and I've tried all the things from Elgato, Beacn, Rodecaster Duo, GO XlR and I sent them all back... the Roland Bridge Cast, I kept & it's amazing.
So I just bought the stream deck plus. Very excited! I also have a dual pc setup, so do I need to buy the chat link cable? I already have an hd60s as a capture card as well. Referring specifically to the diagram.
5 years? I come from a stage audio background and the life expectation of our gear is in decades. I'm still using analog boards from the 90ies and they work just fine. 5 years is unbelievably short.
I have a two PC set up, Both have a wave microphones and Wavelink running them, With Windows volume mixer directing in and outputs. It simplifies the two PC set up. I am not going to get in depth here cause your a really smart dude and probably not gonna see this comment anyway. But if anyone else has questions about Two PC Wavelink setups I MIGHT be able to help. And that's what we're all here for, right to help and learn. Anyway I really enjoyed this video, I am excited to see more RODE stuff.
Wow, I came here looking for content creator-focused audio interfaces and leave with a mountain of inspiration. As an aspiring TH-camr in the songwriter and guitar niche, it's very motivating to see someone as skilled as you who also happens to be a guitar player. With my use case requiring a vocal mic and stereo guitar from my Line 6 Helix, a setup like yours looks like it will do just the trick. I appreciate your level of detail and transparency. All the best to you!
Honestly, I constantly shop around for new audio/mic set ups. In the end I have kept the same setup for a while because people compliment how my voice sounds, and my audio is great. I run the Blue Yeti, Fosi Audio DAC-Q4, Sennheiser HD599SE all through VoiceMeeter Potato. I can adjust my mic to sound studio quality, EQ my audio, record and play back, reverb effects, delay, Oculus headset, and have spotify running through it so I can listen to music and play it through the digital mixer to discord at high quality. The only thing that drives me crazy is being digital, there is a tiny delay which can cause jamming if you are monitoring yourself. I REALLY want a physical set up, but in the end dont want to fork up the money if it is for minor changes.
I think the current best starting srtup is the RODE Podmic USB and the Stream Deck+. The Podmic is so good, and with it being a USB mic now, it’s basically a no-brainer. The Stream Deck+ is also pretty good, but I think this video speaks on that already for me.
Rode is by far the best audio company out there. Every time my mic has ever had a problem Rode always sends me the fix free of charge, namely the boom arm & mounting clamps since they are plastic. They have always had GREAT customer support. Highly recommend Rode for everyone.
You put me on the goxlr mini and I do not regret even today, it’s sad to see not support but I really enjoyed the device thank you I may have given up on streaming or content creation but the goxlr mini just personal use is amazing being able to split my game audio, mic sens, music volume, etc with 4 sliders is amazing thank you again for recommending me a great device
I love watching your videos half for the amazing points of view for the products that you review and half for the integrations for streaming that I never would have found or even thought of on my own.
For my first streaming PC, El Gato Facecam, Wave 1 Mic, and StreamElements have plenty of features for me to do my simple stream with plenty of digital updates to keep me learning. I'm more than happy with these three tools several years later still 👍
I would love to hear ur thoughts about the sound blaster gc7 and the fifine sc 3. right now , after round about 10 years, i want to build me a moody office and gaming space. At the moment i think about a Combo like the tyga 300 R, Wave 3 & stream Deck plus (for easy access of mixing different Audio sources and also use the versatile usecase for productivity). Would u recommand to add an amp/dac to boost the sound quality ? I‘m open for ideas :) Greetings from germany✌️
What I'm wondering, is how much would it cost to schedule a private voice/mic audio tuning session with you? I've been watching you for the last 4 years and your stream setup and goxlr tutiorals were like bible. I would love a chance to have you help out with a mic/audiophile tuning for stream, your picture and audio quality to stream/recorded content is amazing.
I personally use a midi keyboard (LPD8 MkII), an audio interface for my mic (behringer u-phoria um2) and VoiceMeeter. I absolutely love this setup. Used it prior to even hearing about GoXLR and prefer it over my GoXLR Mini. The LPD8 MkII has 8 volume knobs that you can set up to be used with VoiceMeeter and it's audio channels and it has 8 pads that can be set up to use VoiceMeeter that you can set up for macros, or mute certain audio channels.
My goxlr has cause me NOTHING but headaches. Random restarts, not recognizing a mic plugged in, and let’s not get started on the whole firewall fix everyone had to do.
I could swear that Harris is one of, if not THE foremost authority in tried and tested audio solutions for content creators that aren't just musicians. Tangia?...
The Stream deck in general is a great production tool. Since i don't stream or anything, I use it for my DAW (Reaper) as a controller, to control transport and other small things (one button click, instead of moving the mouse/keyboard) while i play my instruments.
I sold my GoXLR a year ago after seeing not one update for it. Knew it was going to flop. Moved to RodeCaster Pro 2 and loved it. Recently picked up the new RodeCaster Duo and am now using it. Highly recommend! Excellent quality and Rode actively pushes meaningfully firmware updates.
I was one of those guys with a Vestax screwed in my desk for this reasons. All of the devices mentioned here are way more than valid for the purpose but in my case i found an old samsung a8 tablet and paired it with touchportal and voicemeeter+vbaudio cable. Had a kinda hard time letting all the macros work but i find having only a tablet 10.5" on my desk that does literally everything my computer and stream needs, is a beaut. The only cons i find is that good ol' tactile feeling of faders under my fingers missing.
How about the SSL 12 Audio interface can this be used for podcasts as it has 4 inputs plus a additional 8 in the software makes a ideal studio mixer but I'm not sure if it works for live streaming or podcasts ??
Correct me if I'm wrong but the one thing I'm noticing that kind of bothers me is with how well the stream deck plus does, you can hook up a mic to it? Regardless, if you get an XLR mic (which I understand having an audio interface for) or usb mic, you have to plug it into another mixer or maybe directly into PC? I get the button functions are awesome but aren't there some that can do both. Kind of like that Rode or I am honestly thinking of one from Guitar Center that has those flow up squares and cant you schedule any macro or hot key to it? just dont have as many but then dont need 2 products or spend more money on one nicer product? Thats what im trying to figure out or contemplate right now cause I dont wanna go buy the Wave XLR now. That just seems like a money grab in a way.
Mine died after only two years, and there are tons of reddit posts with the exact same issue. Mine disconnects anytime it's touched. I'm guessing they bailed when everyone's started going out around the same time.
I just purchased a vintage Shure 1950’s mic and want to use it for streaming. I have a stream deck +. What would you suggest I use to connect this XLR mic to my system? I also have a ATEM Extereme ISO. I’m new to streaming and love your channel and help.
Blessup Senpai...just hooked up the FiFine Ampligame SC3 Gaming Mixer I got for my casual gaming with friends wanted the mixer feel while online...I know its not a mention for most, but its just $44..So if it fails I wont feel bad lol!
The Problem with brands like Fifine or Beacn is, that they are still not available for purchase here in Germany. I am not one for order in the US or other countries, simply not the biggest fan of that. I wanted to check out the Beacn stuff a while ago, but couldnt find it anywhere here. Not even now, and I already checked quite some time ago. If these companies really want to expand, they have to come across the pond and not only within the US. Just my 2 cents. The Mackie i find interesting, having myself RRCP2. But i love that big screen on the mackie. ^^ I also use Mackie mixers for a long time, and its great to see they also go a little bit more modern nowadays. Nice video, very informative. Thanks a lot.
TLDR: I use an ATEM Mini Extreme ISO by Blackmagic Design (BMD), which handles both my audio and video. I accidentally posted this as a reply and not as a separate comment, so here we go. The built-in Fairlight audio mixer is phenomenal. That’s not even getting to the video features and capabilities, especially when combined with DaVinci Resolve for editing (the free version is the one of the best editing software out there, *regardless* of cost, and is jam-packed with powerful tools). That said, I do need a separate preamp (DBX 286s) and Cloudlifter for my SM7B, so this isn’t the cheap option by any means. Although ATEMs are probably overkill for most people, especially if you’re just starting out, they’re actually a tremendous value when you consider how powerful they are. For an easy and obvious example, compare the Elgato HD60 X ($200 for one HDMI input) to the intro BMD ATEM Mini Pro ($295 for 4 HDMI inputs, one HDMI output, two mic inputs, one USB out, the built-in audio mixer, a built-in hardware streaming engine to livestream via Ethernet, etc, etc). BMD is a company for industry professionals. For perspective, colorist Tashi Trieu used DaVinci Resolve Studio to color grade James Cameron's “Avatar: The Way of Water” (interview on BMD’s website in the media archive from January 12, 2023). For a good introduction on ATEMs, I recommend Tom Buck. For more serious/commercial applications, you can’t beat Aaron Parecki, in my opinion. He usually does a Q&A livestream on TH-cam every Sunday. I’m really shocked that BMD products haven’t caught on with streamers, at least the really big ones, because the power and quality is a undeniable. It’s what you’d expect to see in a professional production (although not in a humble, amateur home studio). To be fair, I wanted a goXLR when they first came out and even recently considered adding one to my workflow (for a second microphone). Obviously, I’m now very glad I never did.
Great video! If you get the Elgato stream deck does it eliminate the need for the XLR device? I’m essentially just looking to make better audio for my TH-cam… Not even needing to stream, but most dynamic and condenser microphones don’t go to a 3.5 mm to hook directly into my camera and I want to record directly to my camera. I don’t want to have to put it together in Post.
I too am using the M Game Dual RGB. The software is indeed clunky, the tuning features leave a LOT to be desired, voice changer is mid, and did desync before replacing a stock usb. That being said, the routing format is simple, you get 10 sample pads you can customize and change on the fly, seperate audio sliders, multi function mute button, censor button, 48V power, and you get to customize the RGB to your hearts content. I'll continue to use it hearing this news as i was planning for a goXLR
I edited for the Tangia team and they are an incredible group of people that are super responsive in their discord with any issues that come up, media suggestions and new feature suggestions
When I was looking for a good audio device about six months ago, I wanted the GoXLR, but it seemed like it was going to be axed soon, so I looked for alternatives. I went with the RODECaster Pro II. It had more packed into it than I'll ever use, but it is phenomenal. A few months after I bought it, RODE announced the RODECaster Duo. That is more the size of what I would need, but wasn't going to deal with selling my RCP2 and buying the Duo. So I'm still using the RCP2 and love it.
Great video. I almost grabbed the go XLR for prime Day and I came across your video. Any suggestions for a mixer that has an echo effect and a repeater when you speak in the mic? Small streamer here ... Thanks again!
I'd love to see you do another review of the Avermedia AX310 again, from what I've read they might have opened up plugin development to open source? That seemed to be one of the biggest complaints people had about the software, as well as the delayed reading of sound levels.
I was looking and looking for something to really fit my need to replace my GOXLR mini, from the space saver, with the sliders, but nothing that got me excited from the top companies to want me to move yet, so it looks like Ill be riding this train until the end. Thanks for amazing videos, and ill be on the look out for future videos reviews - Side Note: I joined Tangia (SOOOO SICK), great add on for my Stream
UA Apollo Heritage Solo - unlike other interfaces it has zero latency and it does all its processing keeping it off your CPU - This is a better pick for musician types but works well for gamers and streamers. If you use Intel based systems that have Thunderbolt 3. Yamaha AG08 - Their newest and simplest yet - this is made for basically everyone Streamers and musicians also works well with the previous one together in a chain to add more inputs while still getting the benefits of both. Scarlet 4i4 - Basic but still works as an interface. Ideally when you start out you want something under $200, when you get more $500, as you upgrade gear you might eventually get to that $1k mark.
GoXLR is the reason i never brought home anything else. Even with new gadgets to play with, they were always missing something that you said "nah rather have it and not use it than need it and not have it" on the GoXLR
Well, glad I found this vid. I built a second box for streaming and after scrambling my brain for 2 days and dealing with abysmal on board audio of the stream pc I was just about to pull the trigger on a go xlr. I wondered why I was seeing them on ebay for $200.
Which one has a sampler that works the way as the goxlr? The on the fly sample recording and playback are crucial to me and I've had a hard time finding this out.
new products are just subscriptions at this point honestly with the cost up front. if you buy a device, and it becomes bricked because a company doesnt support it... thats a rental, not ownership. we need products that WORK regardless of updates etc.
What audio device are you using right now and would you recommend it to others?
Stream deck :)
Pls make a vid on the m-game solo
Wave XLR!🤩
Elgato Wave. To me they have the best audio software.
I stream deck, currently
After the team got fired, a DEV went on to say that the GOXLR software will no longer be getting support and the post picked up steam on social media forcing TC-Helicon to release a statement on their twitter page letting people know a few things:
From TC-Helicon's Twitter post:
-Your GoXLR is not Dead!
If neither one of those options work, then yes, take a look at this video and purchase a new piece of hardware that offers you the best options and that is within your budget...but dont buy something before a final announcement has been made by the company, your GoXLR may still have plenty of years to go."
This is a comment from @madskizophrenik, I'm just passing it on.
It's crazy how something this expensive can just have discontinued support by the company
welcome to the future, it's great isn't it.
I think companies should be required to release the source code to the device after discontinuing them. The software support is what makes the device usable in the first place and if the code were released, the product wouldn’t have to die.
This guy promoted this product to so many got them to buy it now hes like its dead heres more to buy dont trust this guy
I just bought the stream deck plus and am wondering if I need to to get the chat link cable well to get the audio running properly from one PC to the other??
i've bought 2 and they both broke on me
They did that recently! I have one, it’s fantastic. Replaced my goxlr with it, that thing was buggy as hell compared to the stream deck+ xlr dock
They should open source the software. Hopefully one day that is a legal requirement for situations like this
Definitely this. Atleast allow the possibility for community to keep it running
They had so much potential. Sad to see them having a "One hit wonder" then never innovating.
its gone open source so endless potential
@@SpuddyIRLis it open source now?
Most of the team left for beacn and it was a wrap they took the innovation with them
@@SpuddyIRL the open-source project isn't official, it's built by a few dedicated community devs as a way to preserve usage of the hardware cross-platform (Windows, Linux, MacOS).

I think you need to update the video with a pinned comment. The GoXLR by TC Helicon is still receiving updates and will continue to get updates. Yes the team was laid off, but it's still getting updates.
The TC Helicon channel has a nice interview series up with the lead developer for the GoXLR utility app. Go check out the interview!
Thanks Harris, saved me $200 👍🏻
Rode Streamer X 😊
Yeah!
I got this mixer and their AM8 mic and it’s actually amazing how good it is for a new streamer.
just ordered one, grab the AM8 a few weeks back then saw this was a thing as well so thought why not.
@@RetrospectsToo it's a game changer for new creators! Physical audio controls make a big difference!
I've got their K683A mic. May look into their mixer
@@RetrospectsTooWhat software can I use?
Welp... Gotta update my GOXLR then I guess...
I second this suggestion! Would love to see a video about that!
Lovely chat gpt comment haha
I'm very happy you made this video. I'm planning to get a mixer along with other things to start streaming/content creating, and you listing out and explaining mixers one by one really helped me out, also making me help find in my price range, so again thank you for this!
I just picked up the GOXLR with the stand and the off/on switch for 200$ used.I think I got my money's worth.
You really need to update this video. The device that everyone thought was "DEAD" just got another update from TC-Helicon.
January 2024.
The GOXLR is very much not dead!
oh? How?
@@unlockthepicture I just got one 6 days ago, and while for damn sure is it scary and overwhelming trying to grips with it

Exactly the video I wanted as a GoXLR user. Just a shame it never got the support it deserved. Thanks for the help Harris!
they just updated the goxlr and confirmmed a goxlr 2
The rode caster can do this any device that has multi audio in can.
Please help me decide:
1. Shure SM57 Dynamic Instrument Microphone
2. RØDE PodMic USB Versatile Dynamic Broadcast Microphone With XLR and USB Connectivity for Podcasting, Streaming, Gaming, Music-Making, and Content Creation
3. Elgato Wave DX - Dynamic XLR Microphone, Cardioid Pattern, Noise Rejection, Speech optimized for Podcasting, Streaming, Broadcasting, No Signal Booster Required, Works with Any Interface, for Mac, PC
4. FIFINE XLR Dynamic Microphone, Vocal Podcast Microphone with Cardioid Pattern, Studio Metal Mic for Streaming Voice-Over Dubbing Video Recording, Black-K669D
AX310 for the Win! yep, they keep updating.
I have my GoXLR and I adore it. I wont stop using it until I can't anymore. It's amazing and I refuse to pay new hardware until it's a brick.
We need an open source software that is able to communicate with all these devices. Since they probably all communicate via MIDI, its a shame there isn't much software like this.
Eh, probably not with midi, especially not audio.
it already exists. GoXLR Utility has been endorsed by the team and is open-sourced/on GitHub already.
So much less space taken up and works amazingly IMO - big big vouch for that setup
you can only use a usb mic though? It seems sad to leave my current mic behind that I use cause more money involved
Hey Harris have you tried the new streamer mode in the steelseries sonar software?
I have a Rodecaster P2, and I have to say I'm still learning how to fully use it as I have no other experience with hardware like this. But, what it can do and what I've learned about it so far is amazing. An absolutely awesome piece of hardware!
What I would really love to see are good alternatives for the VoiceFX/sampler features of the GoXLR. I make such use of the sampler aspect especially and voicemod for me has such a delay to it it makes a lot of it unusable for me.

I feel this is quite an extreme take since the linux developer released go xlr utility and it has all features from beta and is open source so has endless opportunity's through the community now. Also does beacn not suffer a lot latency issues for dual pc set ups
100% this
The funny part is you could always have faders in the past.

Really like the format of your videos. I picked up the rodecaster duo from the GoXLR mini wanted something with no fuss and couldn't be happier.
Might need to update this since they just dropped the first update in a year 💀
Coming to this video today in June 2024. Mine is still working thankfully, but I'm searching for something better now.
For my first streaming PC, El Gato Facecam, Wave 1 Mic, and StreamElements have plenty of features for me to do my simple stream with plenty of digital updates to keep me learning. I'm more than happy with these three tools several years later still 👍
GoXLR got a major update just now. Would recommend checking it out again and doing some follow-up with TC Helicon if you aren't already.

Would u recommand to add an amp/dac to boost the sound quality ? I‘m open for ideas :)

Are you going to update your e GoXLR is Dead with a "it is back" series or something? seem like they have release updates for it.
Whuuuutttt!! I just bought the GoXLR after watching your video on it. OMG! They have to make an underground discord channel for unofficial updates.
Interesting use of the Beacn mic with the Stream Deck + and Wave Link Software combo. I must check that out.
Its good to see some hight quality hardware videos coming out a bit more frequently again :)
Blessup Senpai...just hooked up the FiFine Ampligame SC3 Gaming Mixer I got for my casual gaming with friends wanted the mixer feel
while online...I know its not a mention for most, but its just $44..So if it fails I wont feel bad lol!
I'm jealous of the chair. My crappy old one is driving me crazy.
I noticed the chair as well. Wonder what brand that is? Thought it was the embody for a sec
@@Fastforward3000it's the Halo edition of the Hayworth Fern. Expensive piece of hardware.
I edited for the Tangia team and they are an incredible group of people that are super responsive in their discord with any issues that come up, media suggestions and new feature suggestions
are you using this new wave XLR input into the streamdeck + or stay with the Rodecaster?
When I was looking for a good audio device about six months ago, I wanted the GoXLR, but it seemed like it was going to be axed soon, so I looked for alternatives. I went with the RODECaster Pro II. It had more packed into it than I'll ever use, but it is phenomenal. A few months after I bought it, RODE announced the RODECaster Duo. That is more the size of what I would need, but wasn't going to deal with selling my RCP2 and buying the Duo. So I'm still using the RCP2 and love it.
I just decided last night to reset and start my obs from scratch...perfect timing on the ad 🤣🤣
Sheesh well i just wanted to press the buy button on a go xlr. so glad i had notifications on for your channel now imma have to go to a different one
RØDECaster Duo or StreamerX - Highly recommend!
Even though I'm not into content creator oriented audio hardware, and I prefer proper audio hardware, I absolutely love those videos!
That end screen is godly!🎉
Been noticing issues with my goxlr so I'm glad I clicked on this video. Gonna need something new soon.
new products are just subscriptions at this point honestly with the cost up front. if you buy a device, and it becomes bricked because a company doesnt support it... thats a rental, not ownership. we need products that WORK regardless of updates etc.
