Thank you for watching! Things have definitely changed a lot over the past year and a half. I'm finally in a place now where I feel like the interior is "done". Or at least it's all working for me! Now I get to focus on the outside since the weather is getting nicer ☺
It's a lovely homely space! Too much fitted furniture make some tiny houses look like hotel rooms. Your home has such character. I would have filled the top of the shower in. Lowered the ceiling and used the top section for long term storage. Never seen a shower so high.
Hey Alison! The shower has a vent that connect to the HRV unit on the other side of the wall. Not sure if I showed an angle where you could see it in the video on the left wall of the shower. Came here after watching the video of your house on Exploring Alternatives. Looking forward to getting some real reviews & suggestions regarding appliances, etc. on your channel.
It is a lovely place. Great idea for the instruction manuals for the appliances! I love the view also. I would probably have to switch the placement of the lofts because I am claustrophobic, LOL!
Thank you! That was exactly my intention. Those staged tiny houses with like pretty vases with flowers & 2 books with a candle always throws me off LOL. Like I love flowers, but I don't have room on my counter tops for that!
The green tile in the kitchen is my favourite feature! You also have a great view. Do you get claustrophobic in your bedroom? Are you able to modify the home if you need to at another time?
Thank you for watching! No, I do not get claustrophobic at all in the loft. A lot of people have asked about it so I just finished recording a video all about the loft experience today. Stay tuned for it! What do you mean by "modify the home"? I'm sure the answer will depend on what you have in mind.
@@CasaDuroTinyHome if you perhaps wanted to build an addition, or extend the ceiling in the loft section to give you more space. (If you had been claustrophobic haha)
@@viewsfromthe519 Extending the ceiling would involve ripping out the whole roof. I'm really not sure how that would be possible - I would have to move my home probably to an indoor facility to do that construction work. The problem would then be that the height would be too tall to go back on the road when it's on the trailer, I think the tallest road legal limit is 13 feet. An extension would be more doable through the front door. I've seen some tiny homes do that and I think it works well. I thought about having a separate maybe converted shipping container as an office that is not connected so they are 2 separate structures. But permitting that & the insurance would be a whole ordeal to figure out, and I would also have to look for a new parking space. It all adds up! Definitely not in my budget range right now. I want to focus on paying this home off first!
@@CasaDuroTinyHome completely understand that. The container would be a good idea! I suppose if it were a semi-permanent structure, built on foundation there, it may be easier to extend up. From my understanding, you pay rent to have your home in the park, but I’m unsure of how much they allow you to do on the lot. We were looking at mobile homes in a park in London, (for affordability reasons, of course) but everything we saw, we would want to modify somehow. Maybe each park is different with their rules & regs. So much more for me to learn!
This is in response to your last comment (YT gets glitchy with replies on replies and sometimes I loose the thread!) If I want to build a shed on the lot, I have to approve the drawings by the land owner before I proceed. But I just don't have enough room here for an additional storage container. I basically just have room for 2 cars to park in front of the road.
Your tiny home is absolutely perfection, from your interior design and your special touches, it's stunning, I would live there in a minute, the only thing honestly I would do is add a railing to your loft for safety, I roll in my sleep sometimes, other than that it's beautiful. Great Job!!!💕💕
Your eclectic decor has a lot of personality & Style. It’s obvious a lot of time, effort & love has gone into creating a beautiful home for you. Great thing about a tiny house is making unique to suit your needs😊 Looking at your home I can see the quality of your build & the high spec you actually received, Really Well Done!!! I’m impressed. It’s all history now & love my little home as I’m sure you love yours .
Would love to see a "day in my life" video and a night time view of the community area as you said that there are no lights in the video of Exploring Alternatives.
My camera literally can't pick up anything at night because it's pitch black 😄 You are not the first person to ask me for a "day in the life" video! Honestly it would be very boring. I just sit at my desk all day! 😄 Maybe when summer starts and I am doing some work in the garden. I don't want to make a "fake" video making my day in the life seem more exciting than it is.
Thank you! The problem that a lot of people don't understand is that a lot of the "upgrades" I would want to do cannot be done. Like ripping out the loft, it's structural to the house so it can't be removed. I would like to add a window in the bathroom, which would also require ripping out the whole side wall. I would like to add skylights, which would require ripping out the entire roof. So a lot of the decisions I had to make for my budget are permanent. Doing renos on a regular home just cannot be done on a small home.
Oh, we have so much in common! Fellow tech lady, building a house, dealing with health issues. I've been feeling incredibly daunted by what I have ahead of me; seeing your video helped. Hey Brie, thank you for watching! I am definitely not a "builder" by any means. 😅 My partner does most of the woodworking, I just do the finishing / sanding / priming / painting. But I am all for women builders / DIYers kicking ass! 💪
Hi. It is a beautiful home you have created. Thank you for sharing I was wondering, in your living room area, do the lights in your clothes closet shine through the battan netting and create cosy lighting? Dual purpose. 👍🏻 Take care - have a beautiful day. ☀️😊 Julie, in Denmark
Thank you for the nice home tour and sharing your building story. Between this and seeing your video on the 'Exploring Alternatives' it really provided lots of insight in to the process you went through. Love you you made the space so personalized.
You home is very nice. It's definitely Pinterest-worthy. 😊 Your tall tiled shower is pretty and I was surprised your bathroom was so large. How tall is your home? Wondering why the sleeping loft is so shallow.
I have a whole video about the loft height on my channel, please check it out. The ceilings are 11 feet tall at the highest point, since it's sloped the shower is about 10 feet.
Have you ever thought about having your platform for the bed out on a pulley system, raise and lower bed when your ready to go to bed, also put a drawer under your refrigerator so you can raise it some , have refrigerator up higher don't have to bend over so much and a drawer for a little extra storage, just some thoughts, your home is beautiful!
I cannot remove the loft now, it is structurally part of the house. So if I added a pulley bed underneath it would take up too much of the vertical space. Wouldn't be able to fit my wardrobe / it would cover my windows. I now have an AC unit on the side window so it would collide with that too. Also I don't have any problems with the height of my refrigerator.
I like your tiny house. Thanks for the tour. You are a very good host and supplier of information. I would have put a single bed across the narrow way to sleep in. I use my single bed for s couch , too. With pillow agsinst the wall and it is a comfortable place to sit and to sleep. But, as you say, you don't want your workspace to intrude on your sleep space. I live in a one room studio apartment in Berkeley, California and this room has to accomodate everything, my artwork, my writing tabel and eating table and android tablet work table and the small kitchenette in one end of same room. There's a balcony attached with sliding glass doors that affords me a view of the sky and the trees outside which I am very thankful for. I am, however, not thankful for the neighbors right next to me who happen to "take over" my space with all their activity and noise , fragrances wafting over into my portion which has disallowed me from sitting out on my balcony. Anyway, you are so fortunate to be out in the country and able to drive to grocery stores and such and to have a young body to maintain your tiny house and also the help you have. You are offfering a great service to people with your videos. I like the decor you have and how you use it. I also like your kitchen quite a bit. Also so e of the way you dress. Thanks again, wish you well on your journey! Carla
Hi Casa thanks for prompt reply, may I know how much it cost to lease the land to park the tiny house & how long is leasing contract? I'm also curious how did you solve the waste water issue ? Any contractor who can help settle the problem?
Please watch other videos on my channel about where you can park a tiny house, and the financial freedom video. I break down all of the expenses. I am hooked up to a septic here at the park, it was connected by the landowner. I didn't have to hire any contractors.
Thanks, so useful. You have minimized so well and the interior design (art, textiles, tile, furniture placement) works so well.I specifically appreciate the small bar for the ladder and the HEATED floors. Must be great in winter. Would you be able to have a taller roof IF you had the budget? I think road requirements are 13’? New sub is.
I'm Canadian currently living in Ontario, love living in a tiny house but wonder beside the cost of building the house ,how much do we need to buy a small piece of land for the lovely tiny house. By the way can we stay in the tiny house for winter? Is water & power supply a issue?
Hello Dannis! I do not own land, I lease the land where my house is on. Please have a look at other videos on my channel about where you can park a tiny house, because if you want to buy a vacant piece of land you may not be able to park a tiny house there depending on the local by-laws. My house is very comfortable in the winter with the in floor heating and spray-foam insulation. My water line is wrapped with heat tape. I've never had any issues with power supply during the winter. I hope that's helpful!
I made a whole video about the loft, sorry I've been asked this question about 50000 times and the answer is I couldn't afford fancy shit like that LOL
I love your tiny house. I would have invested in a sofa bed and placed all my storage items up in the loft. How often do you have overnight guests? I would have them sleep in the loft, or I would only sleep there during their stay. You are very creative, and I admire all that you have done.
Thank you for the kind words Diane! A lot of people have said this, but I have slept on the futon before and it doesn't work for me. I like to have a separate space to sleep where I can't see my desk where I work all day. It's also a pain to fold the bed open and closed every single day, because I have the side table that I need to clear, and I have to move the storage drawers underneath, and the front entry rugs, and my desk chair. It takes so much time and maneuvering and it's really not practical to do that on a daily basis. I also don't have enough "stuff" to need a storage loft, it would be mostly empty.
What was the reception from your local code office with the mezzanine? I thought they had to have guardrails etc and be accessed by a stairwell? Is the exception claiming that it's only a storage space.. and hope that they'd buy that?
Are you referring to the loft? In the inspection they were told that is for storage only and I sleep below. That inspection is done in the warehouse before the modular home gets moved, there was no furniture in the house at that time. The municipality just wants to see the CSA stamp.
@@CasaDuroTinyHome Yes the loft and thanks I appreciate the info! I'm sure it can vary from township to township, but good to know they may only look for the stamp!
Where in Ontario can you park a tiny house unless you own a piece of land, do you know? Because as far as we know the laws in Ontario for these houses are incredibly limited to the northern part of the province.
Your home is lovely. Especially the kitchen. I am glad that you can sleep in your loft and not feel claustrophobic. But have you thought of putting a skylight above the head of your bed? That would give you a little more head room. Of course that would cost something and it sounds like your finances are tight.
I wanted one, but I could not afford a skylight. It was going to be $5,000. However, I cannot add to the height of the house because with the trailer it cannot be above 13ft to be road legal when I move it again.
So .. Just some questions Your water and electricity are from the grid? How about your internet connection? How much do you have to pay to park the house there? Oh and.. I'm wondering... I see lots of video people talking about having composting/incinerating toilet. How does a normal toilet work in a tiny home?
Yes, I am hooked up to all utilities. I have a septic tank for the black water that the park staff pump out every other month. I pay around $750/month CDN with tax & hydro (electricity) included.
@@CasaDuroTinyHome ah I see. . That seems higher than I expected... How does that compare with renting in your area? Oh and thanks for answering my curiosities. After seeing all the various videos I've just been wondering about the relative costs.
@@EnhantedSaber There are no apartments in my area as this is a rural community. Perhaps there are homes for rent, but they are 2 storey 3-4 bedroom homes, which wouldn't make sense for a single person.
Greetings from oakville Ontario I'm 6'4 so this living style wouldn't be kind to myself and I enjoyed the video presentation but there is other options but maybe you might know
Hey Iryna! a) Utilities are covered in my lease, roughly $30 CAD per month. b) I spend about $50/month for propane which runs the heat, but also the hot water and my gas stove. I pay the same amount all year round. c) Water is free in Canada. I have never paid for water in my life.
@@CasaDuroTinyHome it is included into your hydro bill. We pay fixed amount for delivery and first 10 cubic meters are included on this delivery fee but as a family of 4 we spend more than 10 cubic meters.
I'm thinking of doing a shed conversion, and these stupid Ontario rules are effing maddening. I'm 5'7" and my adult son is 6'1" WTH do we need a 6'11" ceiling for? >:T Now I hear some builders are refusing to do sleeping lofts altogether? Are the codes different from a Tiny Home on Wheels, to a shipping container, to a shed, to a park model prefab home? Because every time I try to look it up, it changes. And frankly, I don't trust guys who work in industries that are male dominated but should not be, ifyouknowhatimean. I'd like to know how it's done and why, so I don't get scammed by some douchebro.
The rules about lofts actually changed since this house was built only 2 years ago. They are now no longer allowed apparently, even if you consider it just a "storage area" I think they changed it because they knew people were using them as sleeping areas. And let me tell you my builder was DEFINITELY one of those "bro dudes:" 😆 Check out my latest video with Jen from Tea Cup Tiny Homes, even if you don't want to get a house built by them I would consider reaching out to her because she's very up to date on all of the latest building codes across CA & US.

I made a whole video about the loft, sorry I've been asked this question about 50000 times and the answer is I couldn't afford fancy shit like that LOL
@@CasaDuroTinyHome Sorry - both for asking the umpteenth time, as for it being way too expensive 😘
I also don't have enough "stuff" to need a storage loft, it would be mostly empty.
it's a beautiful place, would love to downsize and do this, been looking for spots in Niagara, but nothing..or I would do it! thanks for sharing...
Where is this located? I'm looking at down sizing into a tiny home and want to explore locations.
Thanks so much!
I'm in Simcoe County.
I have 2 whole videos dedicated to this topic on my channel, please go check them out!
❤❤❤❤
Thank you for the great video! No incinerator toilet?
No thank God I got rid of that godforsaken appliance 😹
Your home is lovely. Especially the kitchen. I am glad that you can sleep in your loft and not feel claustrophobic. But have you thought of putting a skylight above the head of your bed? That would give you a little more head room. Of course that would cost something and it sounds like your finances are tight.
I wanted one, but I could not afford a skylight. It was going to be $5,000.
However, I cannot add to the height of the house because with the trailer it cannot be above 13ft to be road legal when I move it again.
Very cute.
I live in Kingston Ontario I want one. Just outside Kingston Ontario?
i love your micro bangs
So ..
Just some questions
Your water and electricity are from the grid?
How about your internet connection?
How much do you have to pay to park the house there?
Oh and.. I'm wondering... I see lots of video people talking about having composting/incinerating toilet. How does a normal toilet work in a tiny home?
Yes, I am hooked up to all utilities. I have a septic tank for the black water that the park staff pump out every other month. I pay around $750/month CDN with tax & hydro (electricity) included.
@@CasaDuroTinyHome so, 750 does not include "mortgage",?
@@EnhantedSaber No, that is for the land lease & utilities only. Does not include the payments towards my loan for the house, or home insurance.
Greetings from oakville Ontario I'm 6'4 so this living style wouldn't be kind to myself and I enjoyed the video presentation but there is other options but maybe you might know
How much do you pay for utilities? Is this expensive to have comfortable temperature during winters? How much do you pay for water? Thank you
Hey Iryna!
a) Utilities are covered in my lease, roughly $30 CAD per month.
b) I spend about $50/month for propane which runs the heat, but also the hot water and my gas stove. I pay the same amount all year round.
c) Water is free in Canada. I have never paid for water in my life.
@@CasaDuroTinyHome unfortunately, water is not free :) At least we pay for it in Ontario. So maybe it is just included into utilities for you..,
@@irynaomel7920 I've never seen a water bill at any house or apartment I've ever rented.
@@CasaDuroTinyHome it is included into your hydro bill. We pay fixed amount for delivery and first 10 cubic meters are included on this delivery fee but as a family of 4 we spend more than 10 cubic meters.
What park are you allowed to set up your tiny home in
I do not broadcast on the internet where I live. Please do not ask people questions that could put their safety at risk 🙏
Hi, didn't realise there were places in Ontario that you could put a tiny house
I have other videos on my channel about parking a tiny house in Ontario, please check them out!!
Wow, your bathroom is huge for a tiny house
I love the backsplash.
Thank you!
Sorry, I'm sure you've been asked this too many times to count, but where are you parked?
Hello Patrice! I am in Simcoe County. I do not share my exact location on the internet for my privacy & safety.
Do you have any good Canadian tiny home builder/suppliers?
I have a whole video about finding a Tiny Home builder on my channel. please check it out!
It’s needlepoint not crochet
thank you, yes correct 😆
What area of Ontario?
Hello James! I'm in Simcoe County
@Casa Duro - Tiny Home Do you rent the lot or own it? If you rent it how much is the monthly rent?
0:38- $106,000 CAD
@@CasaDuroTinyHome Will do. Thank you :)
Beautuful i hope you are happy and in Peace wherever you move to- trust INSTINCS everywhere plz because they are from our Guardians.
For wtf u paid ur building screwed u ! No wonder why u refuse to mention the rip off artists name lol, anyhow it is nice just pissed the you got ripped off by a bad builder, just glad that I'm doing my own build and responsible for my own build but thanks for the tour wish u all the best
