    Great videos, but do NOT remove the tensioner bolt first. Remove the lower smooth idler first, then top idler to remove belt tension so you do not damage the bolt hole in the engine casting for the tensioner.
    Another tip: Lie up your belt lines with the cam sprocket marks and use chip clip to hold the belt and teeth together in at least 2 places per side. Greatly helps hold it all in place

    So much easier with the engine on a stand. But I aint pulling the motor.
    Remove the lower idler pulleys FIRST! Removing the tensioner first can extract the threads from the aluminum block.

    Thanks for the video, great video by the way... I'am just about to buy a SUBARU OUTBACK 2 II 2.0 D 150 and I realize that the last owner bought a Crankshaft seal (he send me all the purchase of spare parts that he did) I haven't ask him why he did that but doing a little research I ended up with this video. The car now have 130.000 miles. It is a common failure for a car with this kind of miles? The engine is a diesel model with timing chain, should I worry about this? It will give me more trouble in the future? I would really appreciate your opinion. Thanks.

    21:21 It's not mentioned in the video by it's important to do it very slow. By the FSM, it must take at least 60 sec to press in the pin, otherwise you can blow out the hydraulic seal inside the tensioner cylinder. The new oem part or Aisin kit (Oe supplier) has a pull ring on it so you don't need to compress it.

    Never compress the tensioner in a horizontal position, should alway be compressed (or bled) in a vertical position, you need to turn your vice to do it correctly. This is well documented in all subaru workshop manuals and pretty much every video on you tube where the tensioner needs bleeding or re compression. Doing it horizontal as shown here could lead to air ingress into the chamber which might lead to a tensioner with inadequate force resulting in a lose belt.

    Just remove the whole radiator with the 2 bolts at the bracket, dont take a chance on smashing it everytime you move the motor

    • @wtdash
      @wtdash ปีที่แล้ว

      The radiator on the Autos also requires the removal and plugging of the two AT trans lines, which can be a pain. I put a plastic bin lid or other thin 'guard' on the radiator's inner side to protect it.

    Engine removal is not worth it when you do this. I know it doesnt take much time on a subaru but you could definitely save time if you're experienced with subarus by just leaving the engine in and getting more clearance by removing the radiator

    Hello. I have a 2011 Outback 2.5, and I can't get the Crank Sprocket off (to replace the Crank Seal). I soaked it with penetrating lube overnight, but no luck. I'm guessing that sucker has a little corrosion, keeping it held on. I've been real careful prying on it, so as not to break a tooth or the aluminum head. Should I use heat? Is there such a thing as a Crank Sprocket PULLER? Do I need to take the Woodruff Key out FIRST? Any advice appreciated. Thanks !

    • @leeswrxsti4902
      @leeswrxsti4902 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah use a crank socket puller with fluid. Also remove any rust that might be there after removal.

    • @jcnikoley
      @jcnikoley 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      An impact wrench will work, although not recommended in the service manual. The “correct” way is to use a crankshaft pulley wrench to hold the harmonic balancer and a breaker bar and socket to loosen the bolt. You can brace the pulley wrench against the vehicle frame. It will take a lot of muscle, or a long breaker bar (like in the video) to loosen the bolt. This is the method in the service manual anyway, although there are others, like shown in the video.

      Yes. Apparently she did this to make other video's about replacing head gaskets too. BTW don't use a screw driver to pry the seal out like she did it can score the crank shaft. Buy a seal puller instead.

    I noticed at 25:52 that the cam on the right side was off by a tooth or so. So when the tension that is generated by the tension pulley, it will generate more force on the belt and cause premature failure to the pulley or belt.
