Gotta say, each time I listen to a Marcus review, I first feel like it's outrageous but the more he explains it, the more I feel like he gets it way more than I do lol
I kind of feel like who ever marcus firend is and said how reck of Walsh did better needs to get punch because I was getting so tired of mario being in an other movie and I just want a full on mario movie not mario being in other movie for reference and I feel like I also like the mario movie more than ralph due to the fact it is more of a mario movie instead of someone elase movie like Ralph
And also I was already by the time I grew up was getting tired of mario being in other movies and just gets reference and that's it I wanted for years for a full on mario movie that isn't someone else film just a mario movie and we finally got it
And also I hate how every other talks about puss in boots 2 because guess what I honestly don't think it would have work in trems of story and heck even when they work on the film they actually struggled because mario doesn't focus to much on story and I do hate how his firend comperd mario to Ralph like dude do you really expect mario to go all serious because I feel like this is what they had to go with because mario doesn't focus to much on story and I think people just needs to stop compering mario to puss in boots and Ralph because the mario movie didn't even hide the fact its for everyone and I think this is the part where marcus got worng with this film because it's for everyone it's not just for kids and also I seen the film and I seen kids but also teens and adults who also wanted to see this film so yey I think this is the mario movie is meant for kids part marcus is super worng on and I hate that he said that in the frist place
And that's like compering mario to sonic like it's the 90s but alot worse because if they tired to take a puss I boots 2 or Ralph approach this film would have not work because 1 puss in boots 2 is a spinoff to the shrek franchise and 2 Ralph was more about him going to other vidoeganes and didn't stay in his world for two long and I feel just pissd off about I wish he had atleast not comped it to these two which are doing there own things and that's what the mario movie was doing doing its own thing instead of taking one those 2 approach
I will say one thing. It's nice to finally watch a movie where characters are genuinely supportive of each other. In an era where everyone needs to have unnecessary conflict with each other or are cynical jerks (looking at you, Velma), it's a breath of fresh air to see just how much these characters care for each other.
I've been writing a fanfic off and on for about four years now, and I have to say I find it hilarious that, when adapting Mario for a character-focused story, both I and Mathew Fogel, both decided "You know what? I bet Mario's dad hates him." Absolutely astounding multiple discovery on our parts.
Hey Marcus! Just wanted to give you a big thanks for bringing attention to testicular cancer. I know it's the most common cancer among young persons with testicules because I lost a friend in high school to it. He was 19 and it was my first real life approach to death in young people. I have a special place in my heart to my friend, and I always insist to my friends to check themselves regularly. Thank you! and thanks for the video
I'm going to see it tomorrow. I know it's not going to be a cinematic tour de force, but I want to be entertained. If it achieves that, then I'll consider it a success.
I think this movie is a good example of why voice actors are important. It's not a job just anybody can do, as we keep seeing when Hollywood casts regular actors in the roles.
6:56 my apologies. I misheard and thought your friend said "Ralph Breaks the Internet" was a better movie. THAT would have been a very different opinion XD
I watched this with a friend, went in expecting just a fun movie, and was not disappointed at all, this was just a fun watch, wasn't complicated but it didn't need to be, it captured the world of Mario well, the Mario sound effects and Mario themes fit in really well and were a pleasure to hear, and me and my friend both belly laughed a few times throughout. I also feel that Chris Pratt actually worked, I do agree that he was miscast, but he didn't do bad at all, the promo stuff that came out prior to the film worried me but they definitely did some rerecordings and it turned out good, it worked.
I liked it! Made me smile, made the 10-person group of Uber fan 20-something’s behind me go nuts every ten minutes, was as funny as an illumination film usually is, got a bit of heart too. It was respectful of the source material without taking itself too seriously. Don’t know why someone would expect a masterpiece of cinema. It’s fun!!

It's neat that we live in an age where even a sub-par and fine movie can look visually great. The art direction and design for this film is defiantly it's top quality.
Saw it with my 4 year old niece. She loved it and I really liked it, she got through the whole thing without ever feeling bored. It's the second movie she's seen in a theatre, she's 4. As a longtime fan of the video games, my eyes lit up several times and although it is in fact mostly a kid's movie I had a wonderful time. This movie can be big, as it introduces a big vintage universe to a young audience in a fun way and with a heart - like first Space Jam big.
i think what i'm most satisfied with in terms of adaptation was how Mario was just a straight up nice guy, I think Mario is kinda like Superman in the sense that he NEEDS to be nice in order to work. Having an unlikeable protagonist would've made this Screenwriting 101-ass plot way more annoying. Also i think it was kinda neat how Peach and Mario are passively implied to like each other but the film didn't dedicate an entire B-plot to them getting together in the end or anything. Maybe I have single digit IQ but I just like movies a lot more when our protagonists feel like they realistically care about each other
Planning on seeing this with some friends of mine next week. I predict it will be fun and fine. I'm mostly excited for this because this is the mario movie that I wanted as a kid, all we had back then growing up in the 90s was the live action one. edit: just saw it and we all thought it was fine.
I saw this and the dnd movie both in the same day with 30 minutes between each other and I gotta say both movies are really fun and I surprisingly enjoyed a lot of things in them
DnD was A LOT better than I expected. I actually thought the trailers were dogshit and some articles had me really rolling my eyes. But it was fun. I was pleasantly surprised
Dungeons and Dragons is my favorite Hollywood adventure-fantasy blockbuster since at least PotC 1 if not the Frasier Mummy - WAY better than I expected, in that it really trusts the audience and doesn't have much (greater than zero but much less than usual) self-deprecating Marvel-Whedon style humor. Also tons of practical effects and sets, which I have missed. It's been eight years since Mad Max: Fury Road and a decade since PacRim, both of which are more sci-fi adventures, but it's closer to those than any other post-MCU blockbuster in the amount of care given
I surprisingly enjoyed the D and D movie more than I thought I would. It wasn't a masterpiece by any stretch. But I was expecting a train wreck. And I got something that was pretty fun.
I can't wait to watch this with my 4 year old daughter. I think she'll love it and it's a great way to show her more mario than just a few games that I have
The point made about only hearing the voices of A-list actors coming out of the characters’ mouths is exactly why Megamind’s voice cast was so good. Not a single celebrity voice in that movie pulls me out of the experience and each fit their character perfectly
I really liked the movie. As you say, is simple. But it does have a lot of references, I found it fast paced, the comedy worked where it had to work. And another thing, it was amazing to hear kids and adults in the cinema both recognizing characters, laughing, and even cheering for the protagonists... it was wholesome. About voice acting, i watched it in latin spanish and it was quite good actually.
That peach was that girl from the NORTHMAN?! I didn't even notice. Like I genuinely enjoyed the movie, since I cared less of voice actor and more of it just being fun. And yea it was fun and that's that.
Kind of in the same boat with you. If this was even 10 minutes longer I reckon it would have gone from like a 7 for me to a solid 8. Mario doesn’t really need a complex plot but the moments between the characters should have had some more to them
The film was in such a rush to speed through the "Look, it's Mario" stuff, that it felt really rushed. A lot of the jokes could've landed better if they were given more time to sit before the next beat.
i walked out of the theater thinking "that was a fun movie and i only wish it had been a little longer the pacing was a little weird" so i definitely felt it
Even just 15 extra minutes for character development or pacing to let scenes and actions breathe would have gone a long way. It wouldn't have made the movie great but man there were so many characters where you know their deal in 1 sentence, or they say "I'm going to do this!" and everyone goes "okay" and they do that with no other contributing factors or depth or nuance in a scene. Just a little bit more development all around would've greatly improved the movie imo.
Love it when cosmonaut puts up a video but really has been bugging me they are so short. Suffering from success it seems lmao. His content is so enjoyable for me that the only problem I have with that it’s not longer anymore lol
His takes are so inconsistent to even take seriously at this point. He gave off the impression that part of the reason why he couldn’t enjoy this film was because the tone was to kiddy but i remember how knees deep he was when Watts made the tone of spider-man homecoming kiddy and “fun”, literally praising those aspects of the film the most.
@@sideeyed7682 He did not say this was just fine because it is kiddy but as an adault it is absolutely fair to say that this movie is not for you if it has little to nothing for you in it.
Honestly, I feel like all the people saying that made sense to not have Charles martinet voice Mario aren't giving him enough credit as a voice actor. The dude has incredible range And you hear it in this movie when he does is classic Mario voice and then does the voice for Mario's father. I feel like he could have found that would have worked for the film. You can get a sense of that middle ground when you hear him interact and have conversations with fans at the different conventions. He stays in character and does the voice the entire time. And it just sounds like Mario having a conversation. That's just my take on it. Everyone's going to have their own opinion. I think what made it feel weird for me wasn't necessarily that was Chris Pratt or anyone else voicing Mario. I filled the character just wasn't written to sound or feel like Mario. There are moments where it felt like Mario. But for the most part, it felt like a different character that we were calling Mario. Anyway, thanks for the video! I love them. Keep them coming!

I wouldn't say that's harsh, it's not like many critics are absolutely shitting on it or anything.
Same. Especially when the defence is "it is just a videogame kids movie. What did you aspect, a Scorssese masterpiece?". Like it is fine to say that but that direclty reflects the 5-6/10 reviews the movie is getting.
Should critics say "it is nothing specially and adaults will basically not get much from but it is really good at being just okay, so 10/10"?
I loved this film. Especially the runtime.
I wouldn't have known that was a blue shell unless that blue shell guy yelled "blue shell"
“The Mario brothers isekai” never change Marcus
My thoughts exactly. But the music needs recognition it was so good. Used the source material very well in the score and it was just nice and feel good - simple in the best way
Gotta say, each time I listen to a Marcus review, I first feel like it's outrageous but the more he explains it, the more I feel like he gets it way more than I do lol

Thank you for sending a message about testicular cancer! As a survivor it's always nice to see awareness being spread!!
That love triangle idea is what makes the Super Mario story looks fun, and Jack Black as Bowser makes it even funnier.
Did not expect a Twin Peaks jump scare in the Super Mario movie review. Freaked me out watching in the dark lmao
Charles martinet doing Mario's dad makes me wish he had just voiced Mario, that more toned downed accent is absolutely perfect
I don't know why, but the Pedro Pascal's snl sketch made me more invested than the actual movie.
Deadass 😭
Facts
Same here but saying that for anything Pedro is in is cheating. Hell, he was the one and only part of the Wonder Woman movie that worked for me.
If you liked that sketch I’d recommend SNL’s Grouch sketch that’s a Sesame Street and Joker mashup, it works better then you’d think
@@Hujyn100oomph. Wonder Woman 1984 was NOT good.
Thanks for another great video cosmonaut! Always love your content
I'm going to see it tomorrow. I know it's not going to be a cinematic tour de force, but I want to be entertained. If it achieves that, then I'll consider it a success.
babe wake up, cosmonaut posted
*Skeleton dances*
My 7 year old LOVED it. LOVED. IT. Watching him watch it was worth the price of admission.
It would just be crazy if we got a Subspace Emissary film out of all this eventually
"Perfectly fine" should be the Illumination slogan at this point.
I expected a Mario movie and I got a Mario movie. It was good.
The best gag in the movie was how much of a simp Bowser was for sure.
i enjoyed the movie hella. it’s just one of those movies as an adult you have to go see with friends and just turn your brain off. super hilarious
It’s fun!!
Fun does not equal good. Sonic 06 is fun to fuck around in but it's a glitchy mess of a fuckin game.
@@Ryker.RevixVT sonic 06 is something that turned out the way the creators did not intend for it to. i think the movie did turn out how it was intended and what it was was good
@@perkypears good to a toddler with a 5 IQ maybe. There's far better animated films that have come out in the last five months than whatever this trash tried to put out.
It's neat that we live in an age where even a sub-par and fine movie can look visually great. The art direction and design for this film is defiantly it's top quality.
Me, a woman with no testes: checks self for testicular cancer symptoms bc Marcus said to.
You’ve now inadvertently promised us a full length Puss and Boots review.
Hell yeah baby! When Mario said "It's Plumber Time", I legit teared up. A masterpiece
I clapped when Ryan Gosling made his cameo and said “Mario is literally me”
This is one of the most overused and unfunny internet jokes I’ve ever seen😑

Maybe I have single digit IQ but I just like movies a lot more when our protagonists feel like they realistically care about each other
I think a Luigi’s Mansion Movie with Charlie Day as Luigi & Roger L. Jackson as King Boo would be Super!
Roger L. Jackson as King Boo is genius casting!
@@deshaunfortune912 thank you! 😊
I think the voices were honestly great
Planning on seeing this with some friends of mine next week. I predict it will be fun and fine. I'm mostly excited for this because this is the mario movie that I wanted as a kid, all we had back then growing up in the 90s was the live action one. edit: just saw it and we all thought it was fine.
The voice acting in brazillian portuguese is p e r f e c t
My 4 and 5 year old loved it, which makes me feel like the nihilistic ghost was a bit out of place.
“But I’m too cute to [insert un-cute action here]!” Illumination has driven that kind of joke into the ground.
Every time i think of Domone Kashu, i always picture him screaming, "Kyogiiii." 1:38 . His actor screamed almost every line
@@EdgyZiggyBoth of them showed a lot of restraint in the "LOOK! REFERENCE!! LAUGH!!" department
I think she'll love it and it's a great way to show her more mario than just a few games that I have
Video begins at 1:10
The point made about only hearing the voices of A-list actors coming out of the characters’ mouths is exactly why Megamind’s voice cast was so good. Not a single celebrity voice in that movie pulls me out of the experience and each fit their character perfectly
“A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest.”
C.S Lewis
I wasn't expecting it to be a great movie
Bingo
True, but I feel this movie while not being a cinematic masterpiece was pretty enjoyable
Marcus's impression of Mario is the funniest thing I've heard all day
Me and my bro enjoyed every single second of it so as far as I'm concerned the movie did its job well LOL
Very great to hear All These Good Comments About it Makes me Even More Excited
I really liked the movie. As you say, is simple. But it does have a lot of references, I found it fast paced, the comedy worked where it had to work. And another thing, it was amazing to hear kids and adults in the cinema both recognizing characters, laughing, and even cheering for the protagonists... it was wholesome.
About voice acting, i watched it in latin spanish and it was quite good actually.
Pretty good movie, wasn't amazing but a fun time, 7/10
That peach was that girl from the NORTHMAN?! I didn't even notice. Like I genuinely enjoyed the movie, since I cared less of voice actor and more of it just being fun. And yea it was fun and that's that.
I think the big flaw was that it needed 15 - 30 minutes more of movie to spread this stuff out
I’m with you on this. The climax almost felt like I was looking into a kaleidoscope at places. It was fun but damn it was frantic.
"There are so many movies that are kids movies, but also really good at the same time" shows grubhub ad looking ass Going Red
Love it when cosmonaut puts up a video but really has been bugging me they are so short. Suffering from success it seems lmao. His content is so enjoyable for me that the only problem I have with that it’s not longer anymore lol
Thank the yt algorithm for that lmaooo 😒 im hoping for more videos like the dnd and warhammer one eventually
Glad to see the movie makers understood the assignment.
He says he 'usually sides with the critics' as if he not going to this time, and then basically does the entire review lmao
This is all correct. I thought it was fine. My six year old son gave it two thumbs way up. And he just sings "Peaches" to himself all day.
I think the movie would have been better if Bob was in it.
Bro imagine you in kindergarten and you hand in your drawing of your family and Marcus walks up and gives you a “fine ig😒” sticker💀💀💀
It's probably one of the best video game movies ever made, to be fair. Not like the competition is super high, but still.
It's enjoyable for what it is, which is way better than the vast majority of video game films.
