      I'll put my money on it being the Gravis UltraSound rendition. Don't forget Joshua Jensen, the composer, helped writing up the documentation of the GUS

    I'm in absolute love with these video game soundtracks that come from an era where where what you could put into the game was extremely limited because of the primitive hardware it had to run on.
    There were so many constraints that the developers and soundtrack team had to contend with that they had to get creative to see their vision fulfilled. Constraints breed creativity.

    In Grade 11 I patched this into a mix tape to listen to. Medivo was THE best, especially with those orchestra blasts. I was ashamed for vibing out to a shareware game back then. Now I use this on my team as the sound test for corporate conference equipment.

      Love stories like this. There's a popular (german) anti-amiga module which I used for testing stereo covoxes (it features a sequence of burps maxing on the left/right channel in turns) and 2 demoscene modules that became my test tune when developing the first aftermarket GUS compatible.

    Personally, that's my soundtrack for the summer of 1996. This, Paul W. A. Anderson's Mortal Kombat Movie, my renting a ton of VHS horror flicks I'd watch in our silverfish-infested basement, obsessing over Mortal Kombat 3 on the SNES, finishing school and dive-bombing in my dinky above-ground pool, treating the right-of-way next to my house like some forbidden forest path when all it was was a stretch of unused land between two lots where the local cats would fight for territory and the late teens would sneak to so they'd bum a cig off of someone or swipe a beer...
    I'm almost forty and fuck, I miss those days.

    • @PalaceMidasMusic
      @PalaceMidasMusic 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had the Mortal Kombat VHS as a teenager, both films actually and I didn't give a damn if the second wasn't as good. Back in the day everything felt like the most amazing stuff ever. I played Jazz Jackrabbit on someone's computer and it was crazy because it was like another Sonic game to me.
      I understand in your comment, the way it's important to pinpoint things like where you would have been at that time, because places kind of vanish. It's like a different universe really. I miss the old days too for sure.

    This is missing quite a few tracks such as Deckstar and Lagunicus.

      Those are only on the expanded CD version of the game. I made a separate video for the tracks that only show up on that version, feel free to check that out.

    For quite awhile I was sure that Alexander Brandon (composer of JJ2, the canceled 3rd game and UT) did this one as well. Apparently I was wrong

    Just thought I let you know that Part 2 of the soundtrack is no longer available. A shame, since I want to listen to this while driving to work.

    The soundtrack has a very "Amiga" sounding to it.

    Something tells me that you've used S3M files instead of original PSM files. On Bonus Stage guitar and synth speeds up and slows down much faster than it should. This thing appears only after converting PSM to S3M..

      That's how certain older tools convert PSM files to S3M; needless to say, the conversion wasn't entirely accurate.
      Current versions of OpenMPT import the files correctly, at the expense of a loss in information; nonetheless, at least the songs sound correct...
