@@TheIggyTech You can follow the road trip on their Insta. The K Swapped Rx7 has already needed minor fixes twice... Meanwhile the rotary has been reliable lol
@@hipster_tacos indeed I've been watching it! And I'm not trying to say rotary or K swap is better, it's just that any modified or swapped car is gonna have greater reliability risk on a road trip.
I closed my eyes during my second viewing of the mountain run. Music to my ears, yes that what an RX7 should sound like. I highly appreciate people keeping the rotary legacy alive, RX7's should always have a rotary as its beating heart.
I only watch this video several times a day for the pure drive at 15:18 . No music, no voice over, just engine, turbos and exhaust and some tyre squeel.
Ben, you’ve made a masterpiece of a car. The license plate, the wrap, the wheels, the spoiler, the exhaust, everything. That drive at the end of the video gave me goosebumps. Great work!
Just want to say that I love these videos. The camera angles/editing are excellent, and you're well spoken and not trying to act cool on camera so it's a pleasure watching and listening to you talk about your car. She looks beautiful so far!
Hope you make an update of what the undercarriage looks like after this winter, heard lots of conflicting stories on the dependability of rubberized undercoatings. Love the build!
Yeah it will be interesting. The danger is trapping moisture beneath the rubber coating, that's worse than leaving it exposed. That's why we were aggressive about drying off the surfaces we were about to coat.
@@GearsandGasoline If it doesn’t hold up, I recommend trying POR15, I applied it to my Ram last year and the underside still looks as if it rolled off the assembly line. Would make a good video too if the need for it arises. Hope for the best
@@GearsandGasoline Temporary spray coatings like fluid film work better in my opinion, they create a moisture barrier that water cannot pass through. They eventually wash off, but they usually last a whole winter.
Be careful ben... Ruberrized undercoatings when they get scratched up accumulate debris and moisture between the metal and the coating which accelerates rusting. Some cars here don't look like it but are actually rusty as all hell underneath what looks like a pristine undercoating
On the brink of crying while watching one of my dream cars rip through the vacant mountain roads. The content G&G creates is amazing. It`s captivating on a whole separate level.
next time you decide to undercoat one of your gems. may i suggest fluid film. its what i use in Pa on all my VA bought vehicles. props to your state for not using salt!
I know that mountain! It’s a nice drive. If you want a great straight test spot that’s nearby in Glasgow, google earth Lonejack Rd Glasgow, Va. It’s next to an open field, and railroad. Next to a rock quarry and no one drives it. Great spot for testing launches or just kick it. Freshly paved too!
Y’all are hands down the best automotive content producers. I can’t wait to see y’all hit 1 million subscribers! We can’t wait to see the next video 👍👍
Highly recommend getting some dedicated premix from Rotary Bum and pouring it with the gas. Since you still have the omp, you only need to run .5 oz per gallon. Also, please let the engine idle and cool down for a few mins after a run. Love the FD!
The main issues with using synthetic in a rotary are as you said, it doesn't burn as well and leads to excessive carbon build up which is likely why the rotors in my sub 19,000 mile renesis 13B had so much carbon on the rotor faces when I pulled it apart for a 9 year storage refresh. The other issue is that if the engine has always been run on conventional oil since break in and then you switch to synthetic it can have a negative effect on the bearings which is why racing beat recommends breaking in on conventional and then switching to synthetic, if you choose, from there, but of course this assumes you don't plan to retain the OMP or it's already blocked off. On the large streetport 13B I built for my 1980 SA22C I removed the entire OMP shaft assembly and tapped & plugged the OMP port on the iron as I never intend to run an OMP on it, but I still choose to run castrol GTX conventional oil in it and same as my RX-8 as the oil analysis test i've done using 10W40 in the winter and 20W50 in the summer showed 1/2 the average bearing wear (on the RX-8) and is more than sufficient for a daily driven rotary as it's cheap, readily available on local shelves and works very well.
I order parts from advance auto as much as i can simply because they sponsor your videos. I cant get enough of these vids specifically because of the shots of the mountain shake down which was A1
Love what you have done so far the the RX7. But honestly you guys could drive anything and modify it and I would still watch the videos. Looking forward to the road trip video coming out again. The previous ones were a blast to watch. Keep up the good work!
The rubberized coating is good but you have to prep it absolutely mistake free and also maintain it or it can actually trap moisture and just make rust worse. Just a heads up!

So excited for the road trip series, I had a feeling that’s what was coming and excited to hear that it’s confirmed. The car is looking beautiful and I have a strong feeling it will perform well. Glad your enjoying the rotary life mate!
Problem with the rubber-stuff (and why it's usually not that good a choice): One scratch, one forgotten spot, and you might just as well not have it. Also, it loves clogging up drainage holes.
@11:35 “Once I switched to synthetic, I dont lose oil from the oil injection”.. 🤔 I hope that thing isnt failing! I would HAVE to premix, its not hard and as long as you’re responsible, I think it will far out perform the metering pump.
yeah seems wierd to me too. It should not be different for the oil measuring pump if the oil is synth. or mineral. It should matter only for apex seals. Better check it regulary and add more premix if necessary.
id definitely go for a slightly shinier set wheels, but dark still, sort of to both accentuate the pop and shine, and contrast with the brightness at the same time.
Rubberized undercoating causes rust by trapping moisture. Something like FluidFilm works much better for protection and it can easily be washed off if need be

Dont use rubberized under seal, it will trap the water and eventually fail. Use a type of oil or film that is applied wet (lanolin oil etc)
