Thank you for making this video. It's easy to watch these builds and get discouraged with my own projects and their cost. I've absolutely loved everything you guys have put out over the years.
He is not wrong regarding the labor part. I have a Ls1 turbo Rx7 FD. I did all the labor minus machine work. But I spent two years getting this project done and a tone of time figuring out how to do it and with what parts. It’s hours of research and etc. this is why we’ll sorted swap coat a decent amount.
The fact that the car is where you want it justifies the cost. It's a hobby, a passion. And hearing that beast scream at the end of the video, just priceless.
Hmmmm totally feel like we need to do a comparison video with the LS FD RX-7 we just finished this fall. Would be very very interesting to see the cost breakdown and performance.
Glad I got to see this in person last year at GL midwest. I was in the sc400 next to yall. My k rx8 is almost done. Great videos more people need to see this!!
Good job! One thing the "keyboard k-swappers" might not realize or give value to is your networking and building the relationships, the partnerships, and the sponsorships that knocks 'almost $70K' down to 'less than $50K' as described at the end. Again, good job!
For under $20K US, you could get a 2017 k20C2 6MT Civic Sedan (Canadian version which is well tuned from the factory), cat-less down pipe, RPF1 rims, Tien Springs, replace the shocks and bushings if too old, ditch all the weight meant for cargo (including underside cladding), spend on the RPF1 rims with some cheap Taiwanee tires (SA-57), replace brakes for stuff that can do duel-duty, k-Tune it to lower the Vtec activation. It's a simple build, but with surprising results.
It's such a beautiful car; I wonder how much the TH-cam channel helped recoup the cost. This video should help, because I have a feeling it will eventually get millions of views.
The end is such perfect and what he told from the start really makes sense, project cars are really expensive and im still looking for a job to start earning HAHAHAHAHA
$62 grand. Holy smoke. No doubt I praise your creativity. The question I always ask custom car builders is: how much money was planned versus how much they ended up spending and in the end is it worth it. For that money the car ends up costing the same as the new corvette or Supra then to me the logical choice would be to buy either one of these. Faster, quicker, safer (all the safety techs , airbags etc), handles better, more refined quieter and has factory warranty.
:50 I wanna know the only thing all these youtubers don't share is how much the project cost. Any info is good in this space and again it was awesome meeting you at Gridlife and grats on the win!!!
@@maiy8786 No, at 2:05 he says he paid 16k for the rolling shell, so add 5k for interior and 3.5k for the wrap and pop up covers. Bro, that's even worse than I thought. Not going to lie, im currently building a 65' mustang pretty mild as well. At first I thought it'd be a simple fun and cheap car. This was about 16k ago. Still have a TON to go. I'm not going to be 69k into it but around 25k I believe. Which is wayyy more than I anticipated. Worth it.
You bought the car k swapped already for 16 grand. Then paid someone to basically go through it and redo the swap + upgrades. Too bad you didn't buy them separately so everyone can get a real # of how much it was.
Expected and I respect it. Not many people can understand because in the end it's just a hobby and passion. I have spent about $25,000 already on my 2019 CTR and yeah I know I still want more parts. I do actually track mine and enjoy it. No way I'm gonna let it sit pretty for the next owner, I'm making memories now.
This is the kind of true to life video I love to watch. Sucks when someone sees build videos, gets excited and drops money on a project car only to find out that the true cost is exponentially higher than what they planned to spend. This results in an unfinished hulk sitting under a tarp and slowly rusting away.
I’ve spent about $50k total on my sti so far, rebuilt for 900whp and on a low boost 25psi tune to keep things reliable it made 510whp and spun a bearing after about 6000 miles. So here’s to another $10k to get it fixed and hopefully then I’ll get it repainted. Might be a couple years before it’s running again but I should be at about the same cost as yours just about when I’m happy with it. Thinking I’ll shoot for a f-it 700whp build this time though, I’ve got other cars for reliability like my k series accord or restored triumph spitfire-surprisingly reliable and cheap to repair.
The only thing I dislike is the sound. You could add a properly placed resonator to kill the exhaust rasp in between shifts, and it would sound more refined. A different muffler could also produce a deeper growl.

I know the 13B with all the accessories and turbos is about 400lbs but then the K series with a turbo and all it's accessories would be significantly more as well, right?
And a 13b can also make way more power. This was a dumb swap.
@@davidreid9973 with how built either one needs to be for seriously big power figures, I'd consider them equivalent
@@tiagobelo4965 not sure what you mean by “built” kseries internals are perfectly fine up to 500whp reliably
@@davidreid9973 Nah they make pretty similar power levels at the very top end of mods with all forged interiors, sleeved cylinders, ported rotors etc.

The sponge-bob music at the end. Icing on the cake. I’m restoring a 1992 Toyota GT-S and putting in a 2GRFE. I feel the excitement and the pain at the same time.
Next you should make a video called "How to K-Swap an RX-7". Step 1: Buy an RX-7 with a K motor swapped into it.
Really impressed how honest your answer was !!!! We all know that you tubers get so me free stuff but most will never tell you how much it saved them !!!!
Man that's an eye-watering bill. Holy crap.
No no its not eye-watering bill anymore it makes you bleed everywhere
You guys deserve a milion subs at least.. The production quality, next level.. Keep up the good work, love you guys
It’s hours of research and etc. this is why we’ll sorted swap coat a decent amount.
that's a boat load of cash, if I ever do a project car its gonna be on the cheap end for sure
You only have so much time to live tho. I say go full send
Ben's "i already called the cops" face/mouth gets me every time 😂
Glad I got to see this in person last year at GL midwest. I was in the sc400 next to yall. My k rx8 is almost done. Great videos more people need to see this!!
2:06 You bought a car that was already K-swapped ? I've missed the plot.
It was somebodies attempted kswap that was almost there but not really with a lot of issues and stuff done poorly.
Good job! One thing the "keyboard k-swappers" might not realize or give value to is your networking and building the relationships, the partnerships, and the sponsorships that knocks 'almost $70K' down to 'less than $50K' as described at the end. Again, good job!
Always be willing to spend money for temporary happiness, you only live once
An LS rx7 for 40 is sounding really smart now LOL! But man I 100% would prefer your build.
I hit play so hard I almost fell down my stairs, like, literally fell down
For under $20K US, you could get a 2017 k20C2 6MT Civic Sedan (Canadian version which is well tuned from the factory), cat-less down pipe, RPF1 rims, Tien Springs, replace the shocks and bushings if too old, ditch all the weight meant for cargo (including underside cladding), spend on the RPF1 rims with some cheap Taiwanee tires (SA-57), replace brakes for stuff that can do duel-duty, k-Tune it to lower the Vtec activation. It's a simple build, but with surprising results.
Dam worth every penny IMO! Hobbies are never cheap….. it’s like having a wife! 😂
You have a wife as a hobby???
Yeah but hobbies and beer don't talk back!
My wife is not expensive? 🤔
@@ayske1 maybe your wife isnt a "hobby" lol
It's such a beautiful car; I wonder how much the TH-cam channel helped recoup the cost. This video should help, because I have a feeling it will eventually get millions of views.
The end is such perfect and what he told from the start really makes sense, project cars are really expensive and im still looking for a job to start earning HAHAHAHAHA
AWESOME!! FD RX7 is one of the sexiest Japanese cars ever built and deserves a reliable capable drivetrain....
Intro Song? that introduction was a jaw-dropping first impression!
if you find it let me know ! been trying to shazam this with no luck
same! I also want to know the intro song.

$62 grand.
I've been waiting for this for hours
TY for a REALISTIC cost on a project car! tons of people think its like 10k for a car... lolz.
"Damn, I can get a used Type-R with that" - Better-buy guy, 2021
With that kind of money you have left overs you can do so much thing with over 30k left
I remember when you guys were at like 100k or even below that. Can't wait for you guys to reach 1 mil.
as usual, liked before even watching.
:50 I wanna know the only thing all these youtubers don't share is how much the project cost. Any info is good in this space and again it was awesome meeting you at Gridlife and grats on the win!!!
*Ben spends a total of $69019*
Me while watching this video: *N I C E*
everyone else: *_why didn't you add another $401?_*
“Modifying cars doesn’t make sense”
You got that right. But it’s hard to put any price on what you’ve made and experienced.
Ben: "so I spent 16k on the shell"
Me: Welp, I can't do this now
Edit: 69k for a k-swap "Nice"
You can just don't overpay for a shell like he did.
@@maiy8786 No, at 2:05 he says he paid 16k for the rolling shell, so add 5k for interior and 3.5k for the wrap and pop up covers. Bro, that's even worse than I thought. He basically paid 24.5k for a non running project, he could've bought a clean running FD for that price and sold all of the rotary stuff. He just absolutely overpaid. All that matters is that he's happy at the end though.
@@maiy8786 My bad read that wrong. I think if he would've just started with a fresh shell it probably would've cost at least 20-30k less than he spent. Looks like he made that mistake of taking over someone else's project but didn't low ball them for it.
@@maiy8786 definitely, they're called money pits for a reason lol.
@@maiy8786 You see 16k for a rolling shell of RX7 is cheap because its shooting up in price even worse if you have low mileage FC this is FD
It already had an incomplete K swap in it... a good bit of the work appears to have been done.
is the car still technically front mid engined?
I have an (almost) all original 95 integra. Only thing not stock is coils and wheels. But I’ve put about $5,000 into it to make it top notch again. Yeah….I can agree the hobby hooks you.
@@cowmath77 are you ok?
Worry not people, they made a lot more than that on yt content and sponsorships, so it paid off a long time ago.
Worth it! And everything is being done so correctly, which makes everyone happy! So sick...
You guys have the capacity of touching our hearts, please, don't stop with this type of content
This is the kind of true to life video I love to watch. Sucks when someone sees build videos, gets excited and drops money on a project car only to find out that the true cost is exponentially higher than what they planned to spend. This results in an unfinished hulk sitting under a tarp and slowly rusting away.
Waiting for G&G videos are always worth it, even if it's only simple one like this.
Am I the only one shocked at how good that motor sounds? That's not your typical ricer Honda sound that is for damn sure!
This vid put a big smile on my face, especially the launch at the end. Thanks for sharing your beautiful build details with us!!
my eye twitched thinking about the possible lack of oil pressure with that launch near the end lol even if its warm, it can take a few seconds for oil to get through the galleries.
Well he wasnt talking that long so there still would of been oil pressure and if not then there would still be enough after the second he started it. Its not like the oil goes back to the oil pan in like 2 seconds.
@@patrykrog8121 key word is pressure. The engine would’ve still had a film of oil but it’s unlikely it had oil pressure and pressure is the critical part. Can take upwards of 20-30 seconds to reach full oil pressure for some engines
@@NitroNuggetTV now i think im gonna wait longer as i typically do 20 seconds in my vw polo and then for 10 min i drive under 2k rpm. Now i think im gonna wait like a minute. I always thaught the pressure builds up in max 10 seconds
I appreciated the honesty of this build
Man, this is what being a car guy at its core looks like. Loving your car, building it to the best shape that fits your style and likings, and especially sharing the info with other enthusiasts into the purest and most honest way. RESPECT
It would suck if you went through all the effort of the build and also filming and editing for 3 years and with you upload the video, it only gets 120 views 6 likes and 4 comments. I say this bcs it’s hard to find natural DIY at its best when there’s so much competition out there and it’s not all fair. There’s no telling if something will be successful or not.
@@toysforboysrc Agreed. I know it's not for everyone, and I'm pretty most of us thought about doing it at some point (shooting videos with friends and sharing car culture online) but let's be honest, It's not going to work out the same for everybody, and I guess I'm okay with it, that's life after all.
I've said it before, I'll say it again, and I'll never stop saying it: barring very few exceptions, swapping any engine into an FD3S turns it into the car that the engine it came from wished it always was.
Dropped mic at end of calculations... excellent!!!
