Congratulations on completing the challenge and filming it whilst under duress. It is often a challenge in itself filming, but when you're cold, wet, under nourished, suffering from sleep deprivation and CONSTIPATED then that is a different kettle of fish. I learned the 'hard' way what 7 days of constipation can do to you, headaches, loss of appetite, not thinking straight. just getting to part two here...ive seen plenty of your vids but for some reason this 'series' slipped under my radar, great so far, love the realism without trying to do the ridiculous "bear Grylls" thing

I really enjoyed this series very much. You did an awesome job throughout. I have never tried the bow drill. I have an idea where to start from TH-cam videos, but from how much you struggled it does not look easy. Good job on conquering that task. It obviously meant everything to survive this challenge. Now I know that widow makers are serious business! I am glad it did not hit your shelter. Since I found your vlog, I have been following it for a while and have recommended it to others. Thank you for your content. I am learning a lot. Cheers, Doug.
Just watched part 1 and 2 back to back, absolutely brilliant stuff, the level of work that goes into simply surviving and you showed your knowledge and skills throughout. Keep up the good work, I love your videos.
The good Lord in his infinite wisdom, decided to provide you with wood for your fire while you were weak and in inclement weather. God must favor you! i appreciate your time and efforts in order to educate and entertain us. thank you.
Wow so lucky with regards to the big log falling so close. Also I agree with the previous comment, Simon should have a TV series. I've been looking out for part 2 every day, it was a nice treat to watch tonight after my day. Again another entertaining video and I learnt about more survival skills, e.g alternative bow style, arrow fletching without feather... Cheers Simon.
Thoroughly enjoyed that series Simon. Going to have to make a father son bow next time i'm out. That widow maker was a lucky escape bud, you must have had an angel on your shoulder. Cheers for the uploads, off to watch another now 🙂👍
That was the fastest Babybel unwrapping I've ever witnessed!!! That wonderfully roasted potato with perfectly melted cheese looked delightful. I'll try it the next time I go camping!
Hang tonight n to that Babybell wax coating..many uses there...lop Nice bow n arrow...This challenge is great...get experience for confidence to ready for a real run! Cheers!
What a challenge that was. The human body can adapt to any environment. Survival is what it's all about when pushed to those limits you either ride or die. You did a great job Simon you learn well. Now I don't know about that tree in the end but that most certainly would have been a sleepless night. Great video once again. Next time Hughes a Tree😆
Simon, I believe that as time passes you will realize your four-day experience will benefit you in unexpected ways. One cannot help but have expectations as one goes into such an endeavor but often what is expected does not seem to unfold, as imagined, during and shortly after the experience. Something far greater will, over time, sprout and bloom and potentially enhance your life. It takes its time and comes in its own season. Many seemingly insignificant thoughts and feelings may lead to lots of things such as a heightened sense of gratitude, just for one small example. That is one of the more obvious ones, though. There is much more. I admire your courage and your great attitude in meeting and greeting the challenges. I felt for you and the withdrawal that you may have been enduring as you went without your delicious foods, your hot chocolate and your daily slab of beef with all the trimmings, not to mention that morning cuppa. When I camp, my morning cup of coffee is a religous ceremony. I cannot help but think that you will be rewarded. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you so much! I’m sure you are right - I already feel that my life and the way I see and think about certain things has been changed - for the better. I feel enriched, and I’m sure other feelings will open up to me over time, as you say. 🙂👍
Yes! I agree, he's for better than some of the junk they put on. This is educational. So good to watch him, What a smashing bloke he is, top-notch !!!!!!
Hi Simon, 😊 thanks for another interesting two part video, the weather looked pretty grim at the beginning , but you put the effort into making the shelter better and it paid off. Your food wasn't too bad, and foraging helped , the goodies you won must have tasted wonderful after nettles, etc, I noticed in part two a shot of some King Alfreds cakes underneath a log, if they were dry they would have taken and sustained a better ember from you bow drill, but full mark's for persistence, and getting a fire going, what I take from these videos is you can't beat having good basic kit, but the main thing is having a good mental attitude, and a will to keep going no matter what. Cheers mate, this was very enjoyable, stay safe, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart UK.
Well done Simon only discovered you a few weeks ago but have purchased a few items and a tent and next spring intend getting out and about .With a busy life watching your videos recharge my batteries so keep safe and keep it going my friend.

I very much enjoyed these videos. I know by day 4 that corn and potato was very welcome as well as the stew pot.loads of nutrition and flavor. Very well done sir.
Simon, you make every story beautiful. You bring understanding to primal engagement with nature, your friends and yourself. Not only have you redeemed woods-man-ship, manhood, fatherhood and leadership; I say You gotta have real sea-legs! You’re #1 in the USA!
Simon, the bloke in the wood. The man picks up and tidys up the woods, drinks nettle tea, shoots arrows and s###s in the wood. Brought back memories back in the days of my youth with wood fires, of putting potatoes directly on the camp fire embers. Tastes absolute lovely. lovely crispy skin. That was a very close call. It reminds of trek in rainforest. I heard a crack and falling branch thru the canopy but I couldn't see where it's coming down and for me to run away from. Standstill and hope for the best. Great video mister.

Simon I've been watching a fair bit of bushcraft stuff on TH-cam lately.... But you win by a country mile mate!... i enjoyed watching that more than anything you can find on Australian TV now days.
Hi Simon. I’ve watched this video before but it didn’t show my like for some reason. Anyway I did enjoy it very much. I can’t imagine how gruelling it must have been. Thanks again regards Luke.
Would rather watch you Simon than any of the tv personalities around so real and true to life thanks for bringing us on this incredible journey and insight
Thank you for this video and for part 1. This was so fascinating to watch and I've learnt a lot just from watching. I'll be checking out Joe's courses too.
Loved the vid Simon. Re Joe carrying on the courses, like any business its about how Joe promotes himself to the masses. The demand is there its about Joe making sure he's promoting what he offers properly and people will then book the courses.
Joe does what he can to promote his courses through his website, newsletters, social media etc. His courses are hugely popular and spaces fill up quickly! The HGC is a different animal - it is a test of existing skills and knowledge, physical and mental stamina and determination. As such it often tends to follow on from completing Joe’s 5 day Bushcraft skills course and the 48hr winter challenge, so numbers are naturally lower as it could be considered the next level.
I had the fun experience of being made homeless for around three weeks aged 17, luckily I grew up in coastal Cumbria, went to secondary school in North Yorkshire and had spent a large part of childhood playing in the local woods so I knew where I was going and had a plan for shelter, fire and water even before I'd set out. But this time it wasn't playing out, there was no going home when streetlights came on, and no mates whose Mother had done a packup for us, If I hadn't the skills and more importantly the will to succeed and survive, I have no doubt that I wouldn't have made it, The skills and techniques you learn on courses like this (and I gained from my childhood) stay with you for life, it's up to you to nurture and hone them but the knowledge you have reinforces your mindset immensely (Bowdrill anguish notwithstanding :-D) and increases your odds of not only surviving, but thriving longterm. The old adage about teaching a man to fish rings ever true. Oh, and I'm putting a fiver on the skull being a weasel or otter :-p
That reinforces the fact that we just never know when we really WILL need these skills! Good on you, I doubt many teenagers would have had the strength of mind to think k the way you did - most would head for the town centre and get into a whole world of downward spiralling misfortune! 👍👍 The skull was a badger - the ridge of his skull was the tell tale sign - so I’m told!
@@simonablokeinthewoods even in my generation theres a lack of 'knowledge', I refer to most people as the ringu generation because when SGT their first thought is 'Who do I ring to sort this out...'
Hey Simon! Been looking forward to part II. You did really Well, at least as far as I can tell. I love that Joe has a big brekky there for you all at the end.
I definitely agree, Simon would be great on tv, and this video was amazing, a lot of guys on TH-cam make flint knapping look really hard and super Simon made it look easy, awesome 👍
So glad I stumbled upon your channel, I love survival camping, also, I spent 3 years of my career in your beautiful country (RAF Lakenheath) and can’t wait to return some day! Cheers!!
I've always wanted to test my skills this way. Good on you for going for it Simon! Much enjoyed this video. Thanks so much for taking the time to film and share. It's greatly appreciated and inspiring.
After watching so much; the crafting, gathering and cooking etc... What I get from your videos the most, (and that I love the best) is that it feels SO rewarding. "Ancestral Living", I love that!
You got me all sad when you said you felt sad about leaving "your home." Then a widow maker came down and I thought, run Forest! Great series and keep doing your stuff. Thoroughly enjoyable!!!
I've always said Simon is the best All round Bush crafter on TH-cam. His knowledge is endless and comes across as brilliant humble bloke. Since the LK35 Review 2 years ago to now has been AMAZING for us viewers. Thanks Simon for all the video's you've made, and we look forward to seeing plenty more in the future🙂 🏕💥🏕💥🏕💥🏕💥🏕🏕🏕🏕🏕🏕🏕🏕 #bestbushcrafter💯
I really enjoyed that simon. You showed how skillful you are. I would luv to see you in the survival program Alone. You wouldn't need to pick weapons you could make them yourself and traps 😊
Simon.... excellent video. Thanks so much for taking the time to share the experience. You're a better man than I, my friend. Thanks again and best wishes... Ax
Great instruction but I would set up a little bit better lighting for your safety and the viewers ability to follow your guidance. Thank you for taking the time to educate others and save us some money in the process!!
That branch that came down really deserved the name "Widowmaker". One of the few things I'm actually scared of when I'm out in the woods. Brilliant video as always Simon. Cheers!
Grows in my garden like weeds, wood sorrel. it spreads everywhere in sheltered area's, my father used to set snares years ago to help feed my brothers and me, but he always checked them reguarily so as not to cause suffering
Simon... Thank you for putting your Challenge Experience on your channel. So many things made me so proud of you. Getting your fire started ... Wow!! Your diligence paid off. And to end the event, such a close call with the branch nearly falling on you... Fortunate all the way around. Thank you again.
Man.... very well done....awesome. Did I detect a bit of emotion there at the end with the proposition of leaving your hard work and home in the woods behind? It speaks volumes to your authenticity. Incredibly well done Simon.
I've heard about those "widow makers" but always thought, what are the chances? I'm so glad it missed Simon. I'm getting hooked on these challenges. Thanks Simon.

@@jakabiksz7628 This is true, his videos are better than some similar programmes i've seen on TV.
@@jakabiksz7628 Indeed. Simon is a very skilled and competent person. His other "how to" videos for various projects prove that too.

Excellent. Very well presented. Definitely the best bushcraft video that I've watched. 👍
Thanks Ben. 👍
Great video and task. Good well needed gifts😊
I had the fun experience of being made homeless for around three weeks aged 17,
luckily I grew up in coastal Cumbria, went to secondary school in North Yorkshire and had spent a large part of childhood playing in the local woods so I knew where I was going and had a plan for shelter, fire and water even before I'd set out.
But this time it wasn't playing out, there was no going home when streetlights came on, and no mates whose Mother had done a packup for us,
If I hadn't the skills and more importantly the will to succeed and survive,
I have no doubt that I wouldn't have made it,
The skills and techniques you learn on courses like this (and I gained from my childhood) stay with you for life, it's up to you to nurture and hone them but the knowledge you have reinforces your mindset immensely (Bowdrill anguish notwithstanding :-D)
and increases your odds of not only surviving, but thriving longterm.
The skull was a badger - the ridge of his skull was the tell tale sign - so I’m told!
@@simonablokeinthewoods even in my generation theres a lack of 'knowledge', I refer to most people as the ringu generation because when SGT their first thought is 'Who do I ring to sort this out...'
Absoloutely fantastic a 10 out of 10 edit Sir...
Really great video. Thank you very much. All the best from Denmark
Hi Simon looking forward to part 2 !
Wow, nothing but respect for you Simon! I bet you enjoyed your breakfeast that mornig! :-) thanks for taking us along.
Thank you - breakfast was amazing!! Taste bud overload!! 😂
Hey Simon! Been looking forward to part II. You did really Well, at least as far as I can tell. I love that Joe has a big brekky there for you all at the end.
Well done very nice watch. :) Thanks for the share.
I definitely agree, Simon would be great on tv, and this video was amazing, a lot of guys on TH-cam make flint knapping look really hard and super Simon made it look easy, awesome 👍
Nice adventure, and great spirit solving problems 👏🏽
So glad I stumbled upon your channel, I love survival camping, also, I spent 3 years of my career in your beautiful country (RAF Lakenheath) and can’t wait to return some day! Cheers!!
Brilliant 👏 👏 loved it Simon
Good on you mate for testing yourself. Not many would.
I've always wanted to test my skills this way. Good on you for going for it Simon! Much enjoyed this video. Thanks so much for taking the time to film and share. It's greatly appreciated and inspiring.
Utterly brilliant. Great work. To do that course AND make a coherent video...I echo all the positive comments.
After watching so much; the crafting, gathering and cooking etc... What I get from your videos the most, (and that I love the best) is that it feels SO rewarding. "Ancestral Living", I love that!
Again a superb video, a bit more drama than usual, still probably helped with going to the toilet!
Fantastische video's ... Part I and part II !!! ik heb weer veel geleerd !!!
You got me all sad when you said you felt sad about leaving "your home." Then a widow maker came down and I thought, run Forest!
Great series and keep doing your stuff. Thoroughly enjoyable!!!
Thanks Tim! Nature has little ways of reminding us who’s boss! 😂🌳
I very much enjoy this channel, not in the UK....I reside in Texas but love the whole concept...good job
I've always said Simon is the best All round Bush crafter on TH-cam. His knowledge is endless and comes across as brilliant humble bloke. Since the LK35 Review 2 years ago to now has been AMAZING for us viewers. Thanks Simon for all the video's you've made, and we look forward to seeing plenty more in the future🙂

#bestbushcrafter💯
Thank you Harvey! 👍😁
and there are pillocks larking about like idiots, with millions of subscribers. guess us intellectuals are in the youtube minority
Cheers!
I loved it! 🌲🏕💪👍
Excellent video.
Grows in my garden like weeds, wood sorrel. it spreads everywhere in sheltered area's, my father used to set snares years ago to help feed my brothers and me, but he always checked them reguarily so as not to cause suffering
Glad to see the widow maker wasn't for you and missed your shelter , keep up the good work.
Best place to be no people to bother you love it
Thanks Wayne, yes, it was sad to say goodbye - that shelter had become more than just a shelter - it was my home - my comfort, my security. 👍
Very glad you where not injured but it does give you a bit of a fright
I've heard about those "widow makers" but always thought, what are the chances? I'm so glad it missed Simon. I'm getting hooked on these challenges. Thanks Simon.
It was a great two part series.
Thank you!! 😁👍
@@simonablokeinthewoods you're most welcome Simon. I enjoyed it and is looking forward to watching more of your videos
