    I really enjoyed "48 Hrs." Both Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy were great together. Murphy was especially hilarious and Nolte was a rough and tough badass cop. There could not have been a better matched pair!

    Fun Fact: 4 of the actors in this movie were in The Warriors; David Patrick Kelly, James Remar, Sonny Landham, who was the police officer in The Warriors that hit Ajax in the gut with the night stick in the park when Ajax was arrested and being handcuffed to the bench and the actor who played Rembrandt, the guy in the parking garage where Luther goes to get the car.

    At my old house, we used to have a 48 Hrs Poster hanging in our TV room when I was a kid long before I was old enough to watch 48 Hrs! It was the first poster you showed us with a Cigar in Eddie Murphy's mouth! Once I was old enough to watch it, I really liked what I saw! It had a great story, great action scenes, and some comedy scenes that made me laugh and giggle! Not only was Eddie Murphy funny but Nick Nolte was really funny too, especially during the scenes where they're punching each other! Also I couldn't stop laughing and giggling at the scene where Frank McRae, who was Sharky in the James Bond movie Licence To Kill, goes on a profanity laced tirade towards Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy! 48 Hrs is a great movie!

    One of the best of the buddy cop genre. Love Nolte's gruff no nonsense cop. The scene where he tells Murphy he'll take him somewhere nice to get some dinner, and then ends up at a candy vending machine is hysterical. What this movie demonstrates, like city slickers and so many others, is that not every movie needs a sequel. Instead they should have paired Nolte and Murphy in a completely different movie playing completely different types of characters. Surprised you didn't do more information on Sonny Landham who played one of the villains. He's an interesting footnote on film history to be certain.

      Well many 80s action movies were fun, but most were crap and only the good ones are really remembered. And even 48hrs (which is undoubtly among the good ones) starts after 40 years to look somewhat dated. It's still fun and watchable, but ...
      Tbh, Movies like the John Wick series or Den of Thieves are undoubtedly superior to most of their 80s brothers in spirit. Also did Walter Hill make some impressive movies in the 70s (Hard Times, The Warriors, Driver).

    And you're correct about why the sequel failed, part of it was that a very different Eddie Murphy returned a decade later.

    I understand what they mean about Murphy’s humour. He has a harshness to him that Pryor doesn’t have which isn’t funny to a lot of people.

    • @ghanasoul
      @ghanasoul 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Phil Chadwick that’s a interesting comment. Pryor said “i never really connected to Eddie. I found his comedy to be too mean” Murphy says he’s influenced by Pryor but i never saw it. The only thing he took from Pryor in my opinion was his cursing not his vulnerability.

    • @ghanasoul
      @ghanasoul 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hugh Jassel that never would’ve happened. Eddie had love and support from his family and was very clear bout where he wanted to go. Everyone thought cuz he was young and famous he would fall into the Prinze, Pryor, Belushi burnout types. He surprised a lot of people. Belushi and Robin Williams offered Eddie cocaine back in the 80s and Eddie declined. Belushi called Eddie a “tight ass”. And yet, Belushi and Williams are gone. Eddie is still alive and well.

      lurch321 ha. Pryor was doing concert films long b4 anyone knew who Eddie was?

    • @ghanasoul
      @ghanasoul 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      lurch321 oh ok. I got u. No. Pryor came along at a time when the country was goin through a lot of changes. His comedy reflected the times. By the time Eddie came along, there was no reason for his comedy to be deep and dark. The 80s were a much lighter time compared to today or the 70s. Hence the type of humor he did. Another thing is, Pryor’s personal screwups were great for his comedy. His true gift was takin pain and makin it funny. Burning up, having a heart attack, drowning in a pool, marital problems, getting punished by your father, etc. are not funny things. He made them funny.

    • @Halbared
      @Halbared 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ghanasoul Nice quote from Pryor there. I always thought Pryor had a warmth to him, an everyman quality, and I always wanted him to do well. Murphy always came across as mean to me. From what I understand about his behind the camera persona, I can understand that.
