When Con Air came out, I was working in a movie theatre. As a promotion, many theatres were given build plans and decals for a MASSIVE Jail-Bird jet to hang in their lobbies(built from wood and poster board, then spray painted). I got to build one of these(the wingspan was about 15-20 feet). As a thank you, the company sent all the theatre's employees that participated in a build a grey Con Air jacket and a thank you letter...
Minty, I have really been enjoying your channel. As an old Army Paratrooper I have seen ConAir many, many times. One aspect that makes this movie loved by the Army so much is that he is playing and ex Army Ranger from the 75th Ranger Regiment. When he tell Larkin that he can’t leave a fallen man behind, that is the corner stone of the Ranger Creed. So it’s an emotional and important part of the movie. Much like the Bunny 🤘🏻. Thank you so much for covering this movie.
When my wife and i were dating we watched Con Air in the cinema and the Le Ann Rhymes version of "How do i live" was our wedding dance song. So this film has a special place in our heart 😍

The ballad, "How Do I Live?" May seem like it's out of place in an action film but it actually fit with Nick Cage's character. He was locked up for protecting his wife and was separated from his wife and daughter. The song reflects his sadness and loneliness being apart from them and it's an emotional climax and very cathartic when they are reunited at the end
I agree. Although I don't think the 14 year old singing a song for an R rated movie is why they had Yearwood sing it, I mean, hell, they made tons of action figures for R rated movies all through the 80s and 90s.
The over the top characters, insane fights, impossible car and plane maneuvers.... a guilty pleasure for sure and now I'm in the mood to watch it again. Great work on this video as always.
I remember watching this with my dad when I was like 8 years old lol. Not a movie for kids but I really enjoyed it and now that I’m 30 i understand it a lot more and own it on Blu-ray. Hoping for a 4k Blu-ray. Legit 90s action movie. Bye pinball!
Apparently Cage came and spent some time in the town I live in to help with the southern accent for the film. His brother in law (at the time) was dating Courteney Cox and suggested he go to Birmingham, but that was too big of place so he decided to stay in the Oxford/Anniston, Alabama area. I ended up working at the hotel several years later as one of the night auditors and the guy that trained me (his name was Jeff) had been there forever and he rarely talked to anyone and hated training anyone because that hotels audit were so difficult, people would quit usually after working there after a month or even less. So after I’d been there several months and it looked like I was going to hang around, he started to actually befriend me. He said I’m going to tell you something I have rarely told anyone else that works here because I didn’t tell a single person when it was happening (dude had zero friends, a significant other or anything, I think I was the first person he actually opened up to). He asked if I knew who Nicolas Cage was and had I seen Con Air and I was like DUH!! So he then proceeded to tell me about him staying at our hotel and he was staying under a different name and would only come out during the night, like 3rd shift. He would chat with Jeff for a bit, go get a drink at our hotel bar and then go and hang out at the Waffle House until right before sunrise. He disguised himself so no one would recognize him and just wanted to hang around and hear the locals chatting so he could try and pick up the accent. Jeff figured out it was him and finally asked him if it was him one night and he admitted it & asked him not to tell anyone and he never did till he told me. I thought he was bullshitting me until I heard several years later from a one of the Waffle House waitresses who had worked there forever. She said he told them who he was the last night he ever came in. He left her a huge tip and signed a napkin for her and she never saw him again. That hotel is no longer there, it was torn down several years back. It used to be THE hotel where anyone famous stayed before they started building all these fancy newer ones. Here in Oxford is where everyone stays for the NASCAR races in Talladega. Working in hotels made me despise NASCAR!! Like I never liked it anyways, but it made me hate it even more. I still dread it twice a year because the traffic is terrible and as a local you know not to go anywhere. The other hotel I worked had other celebrities and of course the pit crews too, but I’ll always remember working at that old Best Western and all the crazy stories.

My favorite quote from the movie, and just maybe one of the best action movie quotes of all time. Another great one: Poe's Friend: "What's wrong with him?" Poe: "My first guess would be...a lot."
"Why couldn't you just put the bunny back in the box?"..My favorite 90's movie..So many good one-liners..My ex used to cry when the song came on at the end😂
I'm a metal fan but the song works for the movie because it's in part a love story. Cage's character is motivated by love the whole way through. He's also an honorable warrior and the film goes out of its way to showcase his chivalry. The medieval chivalric code emphasized earthly, courtly, romantic love as an important component of knighthood, and, when done properly, as way to get closer to heaven. It's an action film but it is deeper than you give it credit for.
So true also i would add the fifth element in there. I can remember when each of these movies came out and i eould atill rather watch any of the above mentioned then the full of cgi movies made today.
@@annasloan2349 There are other notable mentions as well. Some claim 'The Matrix' was one of the best, but I disagree. It was okay, but way overrated, and the beginning of the cgi era.

Would love to know his entire story, and where would he be today? Same with all the killers, like how many people did Cyrus actually kill? What did Baby-O do? What ever happened to the pilot running away? Fun movie, but like most, it left you with a lot of questions; with the writer would put out the information, just for fun.
Minty, here's one thing you didn't know about Conair. I was walking the strip as a 15 year old in Las Vegas when I looked across the street and saw them driving a plane into the Sands Casino for the movie. One of my favorite childhood memories!
The Cameron Poe veteran was a Sgt E-5 Ranger, Desert Storm not a commissioned officer. ✔. His court dress uniform had a unit patch scroll from 75th Ranger Bn...
He also recently got married in Las Vegas while drunk then quickly had it annulled. And I saw a cop heist movie he did set in Vegas with Elijah Wood and Jerry Lewis on Netflix a few years back.
One of my favorite action blockbusters of 1997 along with Face/Off. What about 10 Things You Didn't Know About The Rock (1996), Broken Arrow (1996), Executive Decision (1996) and Heat (1995).
Con Air is my favorite action movie! The action sequences are great and shot very, very good seriously the way the action scenes are shot and look are beyond good and music is great.
DL Lambert i know. I served. He was still a sergeant look at the stripes. Beret has nothing to do with it. They’ve used the Tan berets since 2004 when the Army made it to everyone had to wear a beret. Rangers were upset about it so they changed to Tan.
Wow. Independence Day came out one year earlier? It seems so much a newer movie and Con Air way older. Thank you for doing this movie. Much love Minty.
Personally i consider "Sweet Home Alabama " the unofficial theme to this movie .....everytime i hear that song post 97 ..it makes me think of this movie
Great video, Minty. Hey, I've always LOVED "how do I live without you", it's such a beautiful romantic ballad, & songs like that just aren't made anymore. In the 90s, you still had amazing romantic ballads, & you still had memorable songs from movie soundtracks, that would add to the film, & make it that much more memorable! That sadly, is a thing of the past, too. Wow, I had no idea that Trisha Yearwood had rerecorded "how do I live without you". I always thought only Leann Rimes had done this song! Trisha did a decent job, but I do prefer Leann's version.
Hello minty. Another video on one of my favorite movie from the 90s. I remember watching this movie for the first time on Star Movies. From that on wards i became a fan of Conair. Thank u minty, u r this video made me remember my past good old days.
I lived in Vegas when they did the Vegas Strip scene, was cool seeing the Apache Helicopters and the plane going back and forth over the Strip. And seeing the plane in The Sands Casino before they had it imploded. Thanks for another great video.
I've only see this film once. Back in the 90s, so can't remember much from it. Fast forward to 2019, and at my work place was a manager called Cyrus. He was known as Cyrus The Virus... Now I know why.... Keep up the excellent videos Sir.
Hey Minty, love your videos! Always entertaining, always have some neat trivia, and remind of some beloved movies that I haven't thought about in years. Keep up the good work!
Part Falling Down , part The Fugitive and then every big plane movie mixed together with every prison movie until you're into this guilty pleasure too deep to escape . The Cusack role reminds me of a Keanu role so I was suprised to hear he was actually considered for the Cage role . YOU HAVE BEEN RICK ROLLED !!
I've lived in Vegas since 1995. In late 1996/early 1997, I saw the Con Air plane and a few Apache helicopters as well as a camera crew chopper flying around the skies of Vegas filming the climactic ending at sunset. When the film came out, the local news was showing how messed up the Strip would look if the plane crashed into the buildings it did. The most iconic part of the crash was taking off the guitar from Hard Rock, but Hard Rock is no where near the Strip.
I friggin' love how Minty pervasively butchers people's names. It's part of the charm of his videos. I hope ta God he never starts properly pronouncing names.
It wasn't that LeeAnn was 14 and the movie being rated R, that her version of "How do I Live Without You" wasn't used, it was because it was thought the song would have more emotional impact being sung by an older woman, who had experienced more of life's ups and downs.
Yeah and I remember Leann Rimes being "salty" about it as well. She would make a point of mentioning in interviews that her version outperformed Trisha Yearwoods on the Billboard charts as they both released within months of each other.
Hey these are always great ,I was wondering you should do a ten things you didn't know about MINTY! Whose with me on this ,it's always a pleasure to see new things from a person that makes enjoyable stuff , so everyone wouldn't you like to more about MINTY like myself!
Little known fact, the Torchie's dancer in "Streets Of Fire" was Marine Jahan, who doubled for Jennifer Beals in "Flashdance". Hubba, hubba, hubba! (Sorry, memories of my misspent youth.)
I was in Las Vegas at the time when Con Air was filmed (I still live in Las Vegas) They had half a plane on a rail which was slopped going into the entrance way of the Sands. Venetian is now stands where Sands was.
Being a local and native of Las Vegas, the end chase is hilarious since 1 second they are on the strip, they make a left turn then they are on Fremont and back and forth they went. For those not versed on Vegas geography, the main part of freemont st is like 3-5 miles away from the places they shot on the steip. Oh yea, the crash landing has them landing on the strip while taking put the guitar at the hard rock which is impossible since the hard rock is easily a mile of more east of the strip.
The character Cage plays wasn't an "ex-military officer". The moment you say that at 0:35, the video shows the rank on his uniform....which is Sergeant. An enlisted rank.
tech0792 I make an actual correction and you call me a troll??? The only troll here is you, being an asshole for no reason and not knowing what a troll actually is.
Hi dear Minty! 😊 In France, Conair was called “Les ailes de l’enfer” (“Wings of Hell”). 😉 Hi from Vietnam 🤗🇻🇳❤️ (I love all your videos & your sense of humor, you’re the BEST Man!!! 😎👍)
I mean I agree that Hollywood has done way too many remakes and reboots of existing films and not enough new ones, but not all remakes/reboots are bad. Dwayne Johnson's Skyscraper was an enjoyable remake of Die Hard imho
Bonus Fact: The C-123K was a famous movie plane. It was the same aircraft used in Air America, and Operation Dumbo Drop, and a few others as well. If you see a C-123K in a movie, chances are its that very plane. Bonus Bonus Fact: The K model C-123 is easily recognized by the extra pods under each wing. One set is fuel, the others house turbojet engines to give the bird an extra 5000lbs of thrust, allowing for either a heavier load out or a shorter take off. Bonus Bonus Bonus Fact: In Operation Credible Sport military engineers needed to land a transport plane in the space of a soccer field. Oh and take off again. So they strapped FRIGGIN ROCKETS, BACKWARDS, to the fuselage. Look it up, its a beautiful sight. Bonus Bonus Bonus Bonus Fact: the general shape may look familiar. That is because the C-123 Provider is a scaled down version of the C-130 Hercules, which still flies cargo missions to. Though there is a variant with friggin cannons sticking out of the side. No seriously, look that one up too 😀 And finally... Bonus Bonus Bonus Bonus Bonus Fact: Unfortunately the movie plane is no more. While transporting a generator to an Alaskan town the C-123K tail number N709RR lost control while in a low altitude low speed state, causing the plane to lose lift over the wings, roll over, and impact the a mountain slope killing 3 on board. Sorry to end on a downer, but there ya go. Some useless trivia about the Fairchild C-123K Provider to crowd your brain space.
I so agree with you when you say this movie is a guilty pleasure. It certainly is. I feel the same about The Rock and Airforce One. Fun films but definitely guilty pleasures
1. My family & I saw this movie in theater, I remember my cousin & my brother debating which movie was better, "Con-Air" (1997) or "The Rock" (1996). My cousin & brother argued the creators of "Con-Air" had written in the script that "Con-Air" was the "up-dated" & better movie than "The Rock". In "Con-Air", after the airplane crashes in the desert, Cyrus is telling the other inmates how he wants things done, he's made a map of "the junkyard" & after he's finished, one of the inmates asks Cyrus, "What's that?" Pointing to a rock lying on the desert floor, on Cyrus' map. Cyrus looks at the inmates & answers, "That's a rock, it's nothing!" To my cousin, implying "Con-Air" is better & "The Rock" is nothing. Second, the bunny is a female, look closer. 6:03

One of my favorite action blockbusters of 1997 along with Face/Off. What about 10 Things You Didn't Know About The Rock (1996), Broken Arrow (1996), Executive Decision (1996) and Heat (1995).
I agree awesome movies especially broken Arrow
@@lovenotwar598 One of my favorite John Woo films.
Heat is such a great movie
@@UrbanOutlawsSk8Co The best. One of favorite lines from Heat is Brother You Are Going Down, classic Pacino.
Con Air is my favorite action movie! The action sequences are great and shot very, very good seriously the way the action scenes are shot and look are beyond good and music is great.
Cage plays an ex Non-Commissioned Officer. He was a Sergeant.
Poe was a US Army Airborne Ranger, 75th Ranger Bn, Batt Boy! At the time Rangers wore black berets. ✔. Now, 2019 Rangers wear tan berets.
Isnt that the song playing when the little Spanish "dude is dancing in the dress??????
Someone had to ask...lol
Great video, Minty. Hey, I've always LOVED "how do I live without you", it's such a beautiful romantic ballad, & songs like that just aren't made anymore. In the 90s, you still had amazing romantic ballads, & you still had memorable songs from movie soundtracks, that would add to the film, & make it that much more memorable! That sadly, is a thing of the past, too. Wow, I had no idea that Trisha Yearwood had rerecorded "how do I live without you". I always thought only Leann Rimes had done this song! Trisha did a decent job, but I do prefer Leann's version.
Astley....Cage....Malcovitch's ghost in Con Space#!!
Never noticed the Teen Wolf jersey in the back there. Good get Minty!
Hello minty. Another video on one of my favorite movie from the 90s. I remember watching this movie for the first time on Star Movies. From that on wards i became a fan of Conair. Thank u minty, u r this video made me remember my past good old days.
nothing makes me sadder than the agent lost his bladder in the.... aaairplane
YES! One of the funniest moments in the movie. If not THE funniest. Great movie moment
😂😂
I lived in Vegas when they did the Vegas Strip scene, was cool seeing the Apache Helicopters and the plane going back and forth over the Strip. And seeing the plane in The Sands Casino before they had it imploded. Thanks for another great video.
I’m glad I sat through two ads to to see the top spot. 🤯 That’s awesome! “I’m never gonna give you up, I’m never gonna let you down...” 🤯
Great video, Minty! Thanks! I enjoyed that movie a lot. Saw it with my wife and our friends!
Damn I do not remember Chappell and Trejo were in that. Gotta watch it again lol thanks Minty!
Mr. Joshua Booker Do you know who I am? Ugly all day?
@@senojor lol sorry missing the reference.
Poe got in Danny Trejo's way and Trejo asks something like "Do you know who I am!". Poe responds, "Ugly all day?"
Definitely a guilty pleasure movie. I enjoyed it immensely.😀
@@senojor i need to brush up on my movie history lol. What is that ref from?
one of my favorite films.....bravo minty...
Thank you. A great movie.
Still waiting for Pulp Fiction. 🙂
That Las Vegas miniture set is amazing, be blessed all in Jesus shalom
Minty can you do either passenger 57 or DropZone next or eventually?
@Comicbookstoreguy177 YYEESS!!
I've only see this film once. Back in the 90s, so can't remember much from it. Fast forward to 2019, and at my work place was a manager called Cyrus. He was known as Cyrus The Virus... Now I know why.... Keep up the excellent videos Sir.
Classic 90s movie along with the Rock, Executive Decision, Face Off all pop corn fun
Hey Minty, love your videos! Always entertaining, always have some neat trivia, and remind of some beloved movies that I haven't thought about in years. Keep up the good work!
The song reflects Poe’s determination and love to his wife, child, and bunny 😏
Part Falling Down , part The Fugitive and then every big plane movie mixed together with every prison movie until you're into this guilty pleasure too deep to escape . The Cusack role reminds me of a Keanu role so I was suprised to hear he was actually considered for the Cage role . YOU HAVE BEEN RICK ROLLED !!
CON AIR 2 with Nick and Rick in space. Hell yeah, I'm in. Sign me up.
Another stellar production.
Id have to say Con-Air is my fav Nicholas Cage movie
I've lived in Vegas since 1995. In late 1996/early 1997, I saw the Con Air plane and a few Apache helicopters as well as a camera crew chopper flying around the skies of Vegas filming the climactic ending at sunset. When the film came out, the local news was showing how messed up the Strip would look if the plane crashed into the buildings it did. The most iconic part of the crash was taking off the guitar from Hard Rock, but Hard Rock is no where near the Strip.
Cage does t actually say ‘put the bunny down’ also minty it’s ‘willem’ dafoe mate!
Seriously! Willem. Not William. Lol
I friggin' love how Minty pervasively butchers people's names. It's part of the charm of his videos. I hope ta God he never starts properly pronouncing names.
My favorite was when he called mila jovovich pronounced yovovich, yolkovic.
His name actually is William. When he was young, he couldn't pronounce his own name. Best he could say was Willem.
@@almightycinder This is true, but I am a believer in pronouncing words the way they are spelled.
"How do I live" ended up being a big hit for yearwood on the country charts. Feeling slighted, Rimes released her version on pop radio and it charted.
Sweet home Australia, Minty’s coming home to you
I was hoping youd say something about a casino actually destroyed. You delivered Minty. Nice job
He only wanted to see his wife and daughter.
Plus don't steal his daughters present 😁
One of the Great action movie ever made in Hollywood amazing story line wonderful actors nick C John c John m 👍👍👍👍👌👌👍👍👍
2nd Con Air, in space? Wasnt it called Lock Out with Guy Pearce
Yeah a good movie
"Con Air" was part of the Nicolas Cage "Vegas Trilogy". "Honeymoon In Vegas" and "Leaving Las Vegas" being the previous entries.
10 things about: serial mom, Friday the 13th, caddyshack
Yes, Minty, please.
i love this movie. Thanks Minty for the extra info and the good laugh about the rick astley connection lol
It wasn't that LeeAnn was 14 and the movie being rated R, that her version of "How do I Live Without You" wasn't used, it was because it was thought the song would have more emotional impact being sung by an older woman, who had experienced more of life's ups and downs.
Yeah, but honestly i liked Leann's version better. 🙄
Hard Target or Bloodsport next please.
Bloodsport would be Great!
The Bunny was the Star!! 😋😋🐰🐰 Thank you Minty! 😀😀👍
Minty!! STREETS OF FIRE! Willem Dafoe was creepy awesome badassitude. Sledgehammer fight! Need I say more?
Little known fact, the Torchie's dancer in "Streets Of Fire" was Marine Jahan, who doubled for Jennifer Beals in "Flashdance". Hubba, hubba, hubba! (Sorry, memories of my misspent youth.)
I was in Las Vegas at the time when Con Air was filmed (I still live in Las Vegas) They had half a plane on a rail which was slopped going into the entrance way of the Sands. Venetian is now stands where Sands was.
Put the bunny back in the box.
That has already been brought up. If you're going g to be a troll, then at least read the other comments.
tech0792 I make an actual correction and you call me a troll???
The only troll here is you, being an asshole for no reason and not knowing what a troll actually is.
Hi dear Minty! 😊 In France, Conair was called “Les ailes de l’enfer” (“Wings of Hell”). 😉 Hi from Vietnam 🤗🇻🇳❤️ (I love all your videos & your sense of humor, you’re the BEST Man!!! 😎👍)
I love that you have music by a band that died in a plane crash playing in the background
Define irony....
Great Video.
Con Air is My Favorite Movie After Face/Off.
The way classic movies are being bastardized, it wouldn’t surprise me if there was a sequel or remake, starring Dwayne Johnson
Nah - this will probably be remade with an ALL FEMALE cast.
Lmao. Remade with the cast of Orange Is The New Black.
I mean I agree that Hollywood has done way too many remakes and reboots of existing films and not enough new ones, but not all remakes/reboots are bad. Dwayne Johnson's Skyscraper was an enjoyable remake of Die Hard imho
@@mrlaidback83 Okay, I'm going to watch it this weekend... I'm gonna order it on Amazon
No seriously, look that one up too 😀
And finally...
In my perfect world... John Malkovich plays Mr. Freeze
A childhood favorite. Thanks.
It’s Willem Dafoe, not William Dafoe.
I so agree with you when you say this movie is a guilty pleasure. It certainly is. I feel the same about The Rock and Airforce One. Fun films but definitely guilty pleasures
Move and the bunny gets!
Have you lost your mind?
According to my psych evaluation, yes.
Love your Back to the Future shirt Minty!
Is this a re-upload? I feel like I’ve seen this already.
Yeah, me too.
Mandala
Yeah that's fuckin wierd bro.
Minty Fresh !!!!!
I really enjoy these videos. Keep them coming Minty.
Still hoping you will do
All four Revenge of the Nerds films
Marvel Netflix Shows
Shaft franchise
Friday Night Lights
Eduardo - Have you noticed that Minty specializes in 80's movies? The Nerds movies aside you are might consider petitioning a different movie critic.
Just for clarification... Cage's character was not an officer. He was an E-5, which is a Sergeant in the US Army.
